I hurt my spine and I am waiting for an indepth 6th spinal surgery. Needless to say, I am in excruciating pain. The pain was so intense when I walked into the NCDMV I began perspiring all over my face and body. I became very nauseous, weak, & I had chest palpitations. I stood there and an employee came to check on me. An Examiner walked me over to the chairs. She took the time to be so comforting and kind to me. This awesome kind Examiner brought a fresh bottle of water for me and some paper towels to dry my face off. The Examiner helped me get to the right desk and made sure I was ok. The other Examiner at the desk calmly talked me through doing what I needed to do for my Real ID. What a sweetheart also besides the initial Examiner! Between these two remarkable kind lady Examiners I got through the visit just fine! These two remarkable lady Exsminers were Examiner Wilson and Examiner Thorpe! Kudos to these two professional yet very kind ladies made my visit very comfortable. ​​This was such an uplifting visit. These two sweet helpful Angels were there at a time I needed it! Having two professional kind hearted Examiners such as these two on staff is a feather in your cap...NCDMV!!! Gratitude to both of these pros! This positive experience renewed my faith in society!

Someone didn't think through this clearly when writing the specs for bids for Driver License Services. Low bid shouldn't always be awarded contract when adequate staff is sorely lacking.

I chose Wendell hoping it wouldn't be as packed as the DMV's in Raleigh & I'm soooo glad that I was right. We arrived around 4 pm as walk-ins. It's located in a small shopping strip. It's super small but very quick. We got there and there were 3 customers ahead of us. We were quickly checked in & given a number. Within 2 minutes, Mrs. Johnson called us to her window. She was very nice and efficient in handling our request. I brought a million documents to verify his identity, etc. but she didn't need them. We were in and out of there within 10 minutes. I was very glad that I finally got this done & I will go there again if I ever need my license renewed, etc. Check their website before going to make sure they can handle whatever you need. Not all offices handle all things DMV. I highly recommend this location.

With everything you have to go through to get a passport this should hold a little more weight than it does. You literally have to verify social , take a photo , mail your birth certificate to the federal government and then they send you a passport. Why is this federal identification that allows me to enter other countries and come back to my own country not sufficient to get a state drivers license or permit on its on It makes absolutely Zero sense. While the staff were nice especially the woman who helped my son the experience is always horrible. The State needs to step up and help as opposed to leaving this sector private. 2-3 months for a simple appointment at the dmv is ridiculous. Hire more people , build more locations !!! Never happened and I missed my turn as a result. They recognized that and provided me with another opportunity 60 mins later. Staff works hard and is great- just keep a close eye on the counter screen even if they tell you to wait outside for a text because the electronic system is not always functional.

Text messages kept us informed about our place in line. The staff was smiling, kind, and courteous. My mother was offered a chair since the computer was running slow. We were near the end of the process when it turned out the computer system was down statewide. I asked if I could take my mother home since staff did not know when it would be fixed, and the woman handling her paperwork arranged for me to return before 4:30 to pick up the ID without needing an appointment or my mother. To my surprise, I received a phone call letting me know the paperwork was ready. I stopped by to pick it up and was handed the ID on the spot. Considering the "complications" with the computer system, this was still a pleasant experience. The team there is wonderful!

NOTE: Make sure you bring your DL/ID, birth certificate, 2 proofs of residency, and marriage license for the Real ID. They all have to match as far as the spelling of your name on all documents. The gentleman comes out periodically to check documents and will let you know if something else is needed for the service you're requesting. Any kind of driving test they start cut offs after 3pm. You have to ask for the specific time. Hope this helps.

I have to say that I would rather go here that to the main DMV office 5 minutes away to get things done. Parking is easy and hassle free, and the line moves at a nice pace assuming you have all your paperwork. There is not much on the inside to look at, just the attendants, a bench, and ATM machine. Other than that it is just a big empty room. They do not do all the stuff like they do at the main office at this one, all they deal with is License Plate issues, so sometimes you still might have to head downtown.

I rescheduled for 730am Nov 1st and it was freezing outside, but I had a very good experience overall. A couple tips I wanted to share that I haven't yet seen on the reviews. If you have an appointment, go inside right away and check in with the desk so you can get a number. I arrived at 7:15 and was told by one employee to simply have a seat and I'd be called at my appt time. My appt time came and went and over a dozen walkins were brought in during that time. At 7:35, I checked in at the desk and was told that I should've done that already as soon as I arrived. My paperwork was verified and I was given a ticket. I received a text with my ticket number as well. I was prepared to wait forever since I hadn't checked in immediately. Thankfully, my number was called almost immediately at 7:40. The clerk was very pleasant and friendly. I was out by 8 with my new drivers license, less than an hour after arrival. I can't stress this enough, but it really pays to be friendly and polite. I smiled at everyone and they were all courteous in return. If you don't speak English, please make sure you know what you need because the employees only speak English and had a tough time understanding those who did not. A translator will not be provided. My last warning: the employees were extremely communicative and gave updates every few minutes. They told us all that the kids were out of school today so many of them wanted to take their road test and the wait would be 3-5 hours. You must make an appointment if you don't want to wait forever. They also told us that if we got tired or cranky that we should just leave. Parents were also asked to wait in their cars and not inside with their teen in order to allow more chairs for other patrons. I moved from out of state and already had a RealID so I brought my SS card, drivers license, water bill, electric bill, and car insurance verification. These were all required and worked out for me. I took the vision test and there were 20 road signs on the test that I had to read out. The first 16 are normal signs but the last 4 are completely blank and you just have to recognize the shape, which is really confusing. Some are obvious like a stop sign, but I didn't recognize the shape of a "no passing zone" sign. It was the only one I missed so not a big deal but just a heads up. Study the signs while you're waiting. They have printouts at the front desk. I'll add more tips if I think of them. I was prepared to wait for hours even with an appointment and I was pleasantly surprised.

The bureaucrats working there enjoy chit chatting all day long while people wait in line outside. They have no urgency. They need to stop chit chatting with everyone and get the line through faster. Absolutely infuriating how backwards the NC DMV system is.
