12/12/23: I've been procrastinating on getting my son an ID, but today was the day I finally got it done. I chose Wendell hoping it wouldn't be as packed as the DMV's in Raleigh & I'm soooo glad that I was right. We arrived around 4 pm as walk-ins. It's located in a small shopping strip. It's super small but very quick. We got there and there were 3 customers ahead of us. We were quickly checked in & given a number. Within 2 minutes, Mrs. Johnson called us to her window. She was very nice and efficient in handling our request. I brought a million documents to verify his identity, etc. but she didn't need them. We were in and out of there within 10 minutes. I was very glad that I finally got this done & I will go there again if I ever need my license renewed, etc. Check their website before going to make sure they can handle whatever you need. Not all offices handle all things DMV. I highly recommend this location. read more

I don't understand the new process. As a retired Leo it just makes no sense. There's a line wrapped around the door, one of the only states where you have to make an appointment just to go to the dmv. With everything you have to go through to get a passport this should hold a little more weight than it does. You literally have to verify social , take a photo , mail your birth certificate to the federal government and then they send you a passport. Why is this federal identification that allows me to enter other countries and come back to my own country not sufficient to get a state drivers license or permit on its on It makes absolutely Zero sense. While the staff were nice especially the woman who helped my son the experience is always horrible. The State needs to step up and help as opposed to leaving this sector private. 2-3 months for a simple appointment at the dmv is ridiculous. Hire more people , build more locations !!! Would love to know where all these positive reviews came from. Stood outside in the July heat for 3 hours before even getting inside. Before 11 a.m., a guy came out and told us there were no more driving tests available for the day. No updates on how long it might take, nowhere to sit while you're waiting. Been waiting here for 6 hours for a walk in to get a DL as I moved to NC recently. This is the absolute worst DMV experience I've ever had. I thought 1hr wait time at the DMV back home was bad, but this is something sinister. This whole system is set to fail. I would recommend arriving at 5am or sooner because when I showed up at 6am on a Wednesday there were 20 people ahead of me. Also, the staff were useless and gave conflicting information. The bald headed white guy at the window is rude and impatient at DMV in Wendell. Super unprofessional and needs classes on customer service.

I have neither been to a place that make disable people stand outside in the weather to get their license renewed--they are the ones that should get appointments first. I am one of these people. Poorly managed and do not pay attention to wait times it is not true. Waited two hours on my birthday after trying to get an appointment for 4 weeks and stopping at other locations. They are not courteous abs do not care about t your time. They let us sweat in 85 temperatures refusing to let us in closing the door in a young man's face. Then came out at 4:59 to say you are out of luck come back at 5 am and we will try to weave you in between appointments so essentially you wait times on a false promise and broken system. While they Claim to be short staffed this should not affect the nature in people are treated but they just don't care, it is a disgrace to our state and locally. The employees let you sweat outside and move as slow as possible only 15 people went in on an hour and a half. The problem is not just understaffing but the training and quality of work. Can't wait until AI takes over iny AI more efficient and not as rude. read more

I had been trying to set up an appointment with the DMV in several locations for months but there were never any available when I would check. I finally went to the Wendell office because of all the great reviews. The people with appointments were inside. The people without appointments were outside in 86 degree heat with no shade. I can't stand for any length of time and use a cane. They did allow me to come in. A couple minutes after I came in, the other seven people who were outside came in but were told to go back out. It took about an hour after I went in for everything to be completed which was the best time yet at a DMV. The people were very nice and helpful. When I left, everyone who was waiting outside was gone. And they were not inside. The room is split in two halves. I don't know why they don't have the appointments on one side and the non appointments on the other rather than standing outside in the heat and humidity. Even if there weren't enough chairs, being inside where it was cooler would be a lot healthier than standing in the heat. read more

Came in for a Real ID on a Thursday morning. Guy at the front desk was a little gruff but hey that's to be expected. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. Examiner that helped me was efficient and friendly. One of the quicker DMV experiences I've had. read more

Wish I could give 0 stars... I've lived in multiple states and getting my drivers license switched to North Carolina has been the worst experience ever! Not only is it impossible to get an appointment. When you go in wait in line they turn you way after so many ppl. I was next inline and they said for myself and everyone behind me would have to make an appt or try another day.. I insisted that I wait.. and they allowed me to, then proceeded to be rude when they did need to service me. I brought EVERYTHING that's mentioned on their website as proof of residency.. just to be told they won't accept my utility bills that I had on my phone.. it has to be a printed copy or mailed copy? Everything is paperless now.. they didn't have a email I could send it to or a printer I could air drop to to print.. nothing. So I had to pay $2 to write on a piece of paper that I promise my address is where I live.. what? That's more proof than my actual documents? Then the woman argued with me about my features (hair color, height, eye color and so on.) I corrected her when she told me to approve what she had put and proceed to leave it to 'her discretion' as she claimed. And only now when I'm in the process of doing important documents do I realize she misspelled my address.. when I told her a number of times and even wrote it on that form she had me sign and swear that I live at my address. She said she couldn't find that address in the system.. and I told her, probably because it's a brand new build in a new neighborhood. Our house hadn't even been built for more than 4 weeks at this time. I confirmed the address name again and again and even offered again to show my utility bills with the correct address. She refused to look at them and said never mind I got it..and now months later when I specifically need my drivers license to be correct.. I realize she left out a letter! So now I'm screwed having to get another one and wait. read more

I had a wonderful experience of visiting the DMV (Driver's License) location in Wendell. They were extremely nice, professional, efficient and caring for absolutely every customer who walked through the door (despite how busy they were). I have been to several DMV locations throughout NC and this has, by far, been the absolute best experience I have ever received. I had to renew my license and my mom recommended me this location for fast service. I've waited at least an hour or two at other DMV offices in the past and fully prepared myself to spend the entire afternoon at this one too. I was pleasantly surprised to be out the door in less than an hour! The greeter was helpful in making sure that I had every document I needed to renew my license and meet the real ID requirement. read more

Everyone says this is the best DMV with the quickest service. Go there, they said....it will be fun, they said....yeah, not so much. This office closes at 5 pm. I rushed to get my son from school and drove from Wake Forest here and arrived around 4:35, only to be told that they are not taking any more people. I get that it is too late for a driver test, but for a simple ID card for the little, impossible. If this is the policy, it should be clearly posted on the website. This was a waste of my time and effort. All the greeter could tell me was to come earlier next time. I didn't find this location living up to the hype today. In fact, it was a complete turn-off. read more

I had a very pleasant experience at the Wendell DMV. The wait was not long at all. I was in and out. I had Mrs. Johnson and she was very nice and very professional. She made everything go smoothly and fast. I am a veteran and she made the process very simple. I just brought my DD214 and she put everything into the system. read more

North Carolina DMVs are ridiculous. I am going on my 3rd hour of waiting and I was here 15 minutes before they opened. 3 people working, slow as hell. I have lived in 3 states and never went through this. People are standing out in the rain waiting. This is crazy. Think North Carolina should reconsider making there dmv much bigger. Went in no seats available, no room to stand anywhere, there line was to a wall and had to try to fit in between people sitting and the line. People outside also because no room inside. Stood online for 10 minutes with no movement at all. Wendell dmv is horrible. read more
