Received an email informing my DL is soon to expired. So I went online to filled out early forms and made an appointment. To my surprise there were plenty of spots open! So today is the day I came in, to take a new photo, and convert my ID into a Real ID, vision test (stated it's mandatory), and my documents. Arrived around 9:05am, agent by the door told me they can only check us in 10 mins prior to our appointment. I sat and waited til it was 9:20, and checked in on my text link. Was called at 9:41, Agent Christian at Window #8 helped me. He is very nice and professional. He saw on file that I have a Real ID for my regular one which I was surprised. He helped me cancel that one and move to my DL. He informed me it will take a few minutes, he'll call my number back or another agent will. Sat and waited again, 5-10 minutes later, I was called up again. Paid $46, did my vision test. I hate the glass that's there because it glares a little bit. Christian said I can step to the side so it doesn't glare. Which I notice a lot of agents let us do which is fair. I took my photo and I was out by 10:15. Con- The documents they ask you to bring in, proof of residency needs to be updated. I understand it should be most current of date and they won't accept looking at our mobile phones to verify, however for me, I have lots of mail and bills are paperless. I had to pay extra for my bank and car insurance to mail me a paper copy. I couldn't use my health insurance because it was from 3/2026, which is pass 90 days. And if I uploaded them online already, why do I need to bring them in! read more

This morning I arrived at the DMV without an appointment. Knowing the office opened at 9am on Wednesdays I showed up around 9:30am to a very short line in the no appointment line. I was applying for a temporary disabled placard. DMV staffer asked me was it for myself to which I answered yes. She asked me for my cell# and assigned me an alpha numeric number beginning with alpha E. I found a seat and waited. Within 1/2 hour my alpha numeric number was called in addition to receiving a text. I went to window 17 as instructed. There I handed my application and CDL. I paid $6 for the placard. (Not including $25 for the doctor signed application at my doctor's office). The DMV staffer keyed in some info. Then I was handed my temporary placard. If I could give zero stars, I would. After waiting almost 2.5 hours at the Daly City DMV, I was treated with complete disrespect. The agent at window 17 (who said his name was Israel) was rude, dismissive, and refused to help me. Instead of explaining anything, he sent me away with no guidance. When I asked for a supervisor, he called another employee from window 5 who was also aggressive and unprofessional. Both of them ignored my request for a supervisor. After following their instructions and coming back fully prepared, the same agent looked at me, skipped me on purpose, and then told me straight to my face that he did NOT want to help me. Absolutely unacceptable behavior. The only reason I got my process done was because another employee stepped in and actually treated me with respect. Unfortunately the manager at this DMV is very rude and looks at you like you are less than or even stupid, as soon as she walked up to me she had a very impolite demeanor already. I understand that it's a chaotic environment everyday, however that is not an excuse to treat people like this lady did. When I asked to make a phone call, she was just staring at me the whole time but very discourteous/ disrespectful where you can tell she is irritated because of you. Because of this lady especially being a MANAGER, super unacceptable and needs an attitude check as well as a pamphlet, a book or a lesson on how to become a better Manager. Came in for a simple car registration renewal because the DMV website, kiosks, and phone system wouldn't process it. Already frustrating. I joined the online waitlist and waited over two hours. As my turn approached--third in line--the only employee handling registrations closed her window and walked away. Lunch? Break? No communication. No replacement for about 20 minutes. What made it worse was the atmosphere. I observed a nonchalant, chatty, and dismissive tone among staff. There was no sense of urgency, no ownership, and no acknowledgment that people had been waiting for hours. I'm still in line for my real ID pic writing this that's how much I wanted to get this out lol this place moves FAST on two conditions. IF YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT anddddd IF you read the website requirements for what paperwork you need to bring I you will literally be in and out. I uploaded my real id docs and did as much as I could online before my appointment date and printed my 2 proof of address bills ahead of time so I didn't forget and it totally paid off. By the time I got to the window I was done confirming, signing and paying within 5 minutes. The only real wait is for the picture line but either way I'm gonna be out in an hour because of how well this place is running. Good job everyone!! If there is a hell, it's in a DMV. This is not to disparage the employees there, as my experience with them has been surprisingly satisfactory and almost pleasant. It's the bureaucracy and management of the establishment. The DMV in general, and especially this one, is ALWAYS crowded, both inside and the parking lot, meaning you usually need to find street parking and standing while waiting for your number to be called. I'd have suggesting coming right when they open to avoid the crowds, but everyone has that idea, meaning it's also busy. Even getting there early for your appointment is futile, as they'll force you back to the end of the line if you're over 5 min early to your appt (which was my and many others' experience). Expect to wait at least 1-2 hours (10min if you made an appointment, 30min if you haven't, and an hour for your number to be called afterwards). Speaking of that, I highly recommend making an appointment, and fill out the application beforehand to save time. And absolutely make sure to have ALL your documents in order (license, passport/birth cert), and two forms of residence, since if you're missing one or it's not filled out properly, you've gotta repeat the entire process over again. Lastly, it's pretty gross inside. Customers are disgruntled due to the wait and the lack of seating, so you're often not gonna be surrounded by the nicest people (or at least not in good moods). Even if you don't believe in covid restrictions, I'd suggest wearing a mask since everyone seems to cough up their lungs here (doesn't help that many of the customers are on the older side either). It might be worth your time (and peace of mind) to visit a DMV in a less populated area instead. read more

Charmaine at station 4 was extremely lazy and unhelpful. I brought two abstracts from Fastrak to register my car and was told by Charmaine that she couldn't accept them because they were associated with my temporary plate that came with the car from the dealer. She said they couldn't see that the corrections were associated with the current license plate. Went back to Fastrak today with Charmaine's instructions to have them reprint the abstracts with the correct license plate, only for Fastrak to tell me that they can't reprint them because they are auto generated based on the license plate they are associated with and that DMV absolutely does have the ability to look those up, but Charmaine likely did not want to. I ended up going to the San Francisco office where they were happy to help and immediately processed my request. They rolled their eyes when I told them I was turned away at Daly City and agreed that they just didn't want to manually look up the citations. Unprofessional. No one knows what they're doing. They can't even spell or read. I waited 2.5 hours to hand in my documents which were all clearly written correctly, just to find my title and registration in the mail spelled wrong. Of course, these people tried to blame me, but I have copies of my docs: Bill of Sale, Notice of Transfer, Original Title, Disability Placard Application, and my Driver's License. Everything was spelled correctly. The DMV clerk is just careless like everyone else here. They sent me to 3 different windows and told me to wait AGAIN! I spoke to the manager and she tried to blame me as well. Then when she was proven wrong, she downplayed the 45 minute wait! She lied and said it was 30 minutes but they don't realize the number is time stamped since they text it to you. Not surprising because no one knows what they're doing here. I've been here more than 45 minutes already waiting again for their mistake! So waited more than 3 hours just for the DMV people to get themselves together. Why do they move in slow motion. However, I still had to make an appointment to bring in my documents and passport for verification and have my picture taken for the REAL ID. My appointment was at 2:10 pm, and I arrived at 2:05 pm to check in. After checking in, I had to wait for my number to be called, which was notified on my cellphone. I was in and out of the DMV in just 1 hour and 10 minutes, which isn't bad at all. The staff was great and did their jobs well. When I visited this DMV, it triggered a flood of memories. It was here that I took my driving test back in 1999, approximately 25 years ago. I highly recommend making an appointment online to reduce the time you spend waiting at the DMV. I'm not usually one to leave an angry review, but I was really disappointed with my visit today! I incurred a late fee on my car registration and chatted with a dmv agent online to discuss my options. They told me I can either go in person to discuss waving the late fee or send a request to Sacramento. They recommended going in person as the written request can take up to 30 days to be reviewed. As instructed, I go in person, and the agent helping me says that it's impossible for them to do anything about the late fee and that I have to mail in a request to Sacramento. I ask if I'll incur any additional charges with that extended timeframe, and they say no, but that the IRS may come after me for my delinquent payment. Now scared and feeling pressured, I end up paying for my registration and late fee there. I feel like fear tactics were used on me and the agent didn't listen to or care about my situation. I wouldn't be so upset but the agent I was talking to online said that they would be able to help me in person and then I was refused. The whole situation was a waste of time, but at least you're able to get in the dmv line online now ahead of time so I only ended up waiting 10 minutes there in person. read more

Only reason for coming today because I knew it would be quick and easy to replace my lost ID. As approaching window 16 I thought showing my Driver License would be more than enough to help replace my ID but received attitude when asking simple questions on why my ID wasn't enough. Instead I was told to come back with tons of verifications in order to do that when I was once told to just bring ID. I showed back up and was helped by another window which the worker happily helped me out and made it so easy as just a scan of my Driver License he was able to make experience a lot better. Despite reading some negative reviews, I went in without an appointment around 2:40pm (peak hours) and I waited in line. I used the "Get in Line" service 20 minutes before arriving G172 once I was in line they gave me a new ticket number G199, I waited around 35 minutes and the lady at the window was so amazing and helpful! She downgraded my realID application to a regular ID card and prevented me from paying the ID card fee again. Super happy, im sure other services have way longer wait times but my experience was a lot better than expected read more

5 stars for the lady who checked me in at 1225 for my 1230p, she was managing 2 lines and got me settled very quickly. Then waited about 20m to actually be seen which I always plan for. Went to window 5 and was helped by Laura - she was very helpful and kind and offered to call Sacramento to help me with my clean air decal issue (applied and sent check in but they denied me saying I'm ineligible even tho I shared on my app that my bumper was replaced due to an accident) and Laura is on the phone trying to help me as I've been calling DMV for days and when they call me back (many hours later) I'm not available. In line for vision test now and hopefully she is able to solve my decal issue. Even if Laura doesn't, the point if that she tried and offered to help..that's what matters - so thank you Laura! It is a DMV, I don't think you can go above a 3 due to it being what it is. I can't imagine you'll spend less than two hours here. That said, here's some info on getting your Real ID. Do as much as you can online. For whatever you need at the DMV, first see if you can do it online. Submit the necessary Real ID documents, get your email verification. Schedule an appointment(they were over a month away), or go at 7:30 to get in line for the 8am opening. I got in line around 7:30 and was done before 9:30, with no appointment. There are still two lines. Check the photos others have posted. Left Line is for NO Appointment. Right Line is for Appointments. Bring your phone and show them the verification. Tell them your number, get a ticket Number(There are no paper tickets, you must have a phone, or have a way to write it down.) Even if you have an appointment you still get a "ticket" Number. If you have an appointment you can come a little early, but don't come too early since they won't be able to give you a number if you are too far from your timeslot. Your appointment is not to get processed by a time, so still expect a longer day. Your appointment is a time-slot to get a Number in a special line of Appointment people. You don't have to wait in the office. Your phone will get a text with your Number. You will get a following text when it is closer to your number being called. (I was 16, I got a text when they were at 8). You will also get a text with the window when your Number is called, but I recommend not waiting until then to go inside if you did choose to go wait in your car. Waiting was still the longest thing, but once my Number was called it went really quickly. I provided the physical documents that I had submitted online. I did the quick eye test, paid for renewal (they still accept Cash, but I went with Card) and I went and got a quick photo. All in all it was a very simple process and took as long as I expected it to take. I do not recommend going after they open. I was number 16, by the time I was called-on they were almost to number 100. If you must do this, definitely get your waiting Number and just go do something else. Do not forget your number, make sure you get the text. If you forget it and don't have the text to know your number they can issue you a new number, but you'll have lost your place. Plenty of the staff is quite nice. But they also have some REALLY rude people who are short with everyone. A tattooed older hispanic woman was working at the start to give out Numbers. She's shout "NUMBER!" to people, expecting their phone number. Zero care if they underststood her, heard her, didn't matter if the person was old and hard of hearing, that woman was always rude. Other employees doing the same job would ask what the person was there for, ask if they had their email verification, and ask for a phone number. Hopefully she's retiring soon because holy hell she is making her coworkers days even harder. If you have a relative going who is hard of hearing or not comfortable with text messages, please go with them. You also cannot guarantee to get someone who speaks another language, even though there are people who do speak other languages. There are no translation services. This poor old man did not understand how to work his own text messages, to him it seemed once they were no longer notifications he had no idea where they went. Eventually someone else stepped up because the rude worker was so useless and I believe they got him some help. The person who helped me was nice. Another woman I saw who was assisting a deaf man was also nice. I notice another reviewer calling out the young security guy with dreads, I also saw him being super helpful, actually explaining how the text messages work. read more

I know most of us can tell horror stories of having to go to the DMV. i have several bad experiences myself. Today I had a truly wonderful experience and I felt the need to leave a great review and give a shout out to the wonderful employees I had the pleasure of dealing with. I needed to renew my license in person. I filled out the application and uploaded the necessary documents to the online system ahead of the appointment. The gentleman who checked me in for my appointment (sorry I did not get any names...my bad...but he is a San Jose Sharks fan) was very welcoming and sweet. I don't have a cell phone so he wrote down my number in line for me. I was sitting for less than 5 minutes (my friend was still in the restroom) and my number was already called. Wow, great! Again, I did not get the gentleman's name, but he was at counter #6. So incredibly friendly and kind. I had made an error on my application but he quickly corrected it for me. Then a problem arose, I am blind in one eye and had to submit a form from my eye doctor documenting this. I had the document. Unfortunately, it expired on August 18th and it was now the 26th. I have a chronic health/pain condition that makes it difficult for me to function. I had already rescheduled my appointment 3 times prior but had to reschedule each time due to being unable to physically get to or handle sitting or standing at the DMV. I knew the form was only good for 6 months and it had been completed in February so I thought well I am still within the 6th month so it should be ok. Unfortunately, that was not the case it is 6 months from the date on the form so it was expired and I would have to get a new one. I was distraught because it had taken so much for me to even make it to this appointment today. I had to get a friend to drive me and come with me so she could help me in case I had trouble walking or any other health related issues. Appointments, in general are so hard for me to keep because I never know what state my body is going to be in on any given day and it is stressful when it is something that is time sensitive. Anyway, the nice gentleman said he would check with his supervisor to see if they could still accept the form. They could not, but I so appreciated that he even offered to see if it might be an option. And even though I have to go back, he gave me a temporary license already, which is vital for me because I really am dependent on myself. I don't have people who can always assist me when I need help. I could take my picture and he scheduled a new appointment for me to drop off the new form. That was fantastic as far as I am concerned. I know dropping off the form will take probably less than 20 minutes, if that, so that is ideal for me. Today I was out in less than 45 minutes and I am sure it would have been even faster but someone was holding up the photo line. And the female employee in photo line A was also super nice and kind. All three of the staff I had the pleasure of interacting with also wished me a happy early birthday because it is in a few days. All three of these individuals made what for me is a difficult experience to get through physically, very pleasant and non-stressful. I have immense appreciation and gratitude for their kindness and friendly demeanor. This DMV's customer service is on point as far as I am concerned. COVID review. Came here to TRY to get my Real ID a few weeks back, but to no avail. This place was super disorganized with absolutely no communication from staff regarding wait times and policies. Furthermore, this DMV location does NOT follow or enforce social distancing protocols as lines are formed in a very small area (most folks were congregated in an area about 10 feet by 3 feet sidewalk) on just one side of the building. Lines were long and zig-zagged very close to others, definitely not 6 feet apart between people. Folks were about 3-4 feet apart from each other. Not good at all... I came here about an hour before closing, checking the DMV website prior. Sadly, the DMV website was inaccurate with its estimated wait time. A friend of mine who works for the DMV told me that if you're in line, you would get served -- but that wasn't the case. While I waited in line, there were some DMV workers that were haphazardly assisting folks, in a random fashion. By the time someone got to me, it was about near close, and that's when the workers decided to make an announcement saying that there would be no guarantee of entry without a number (I was unable to get a number). Meanwhile, me and everyone else were waiting patiently, with no communication until just when they were about to close. If they had made frequent announcements, then people would have not wasted their time waiting in line, knowing that they wouldn't be able to get in. Meh. I decided not to come back the next day, as I knew what a mess this DMV location was. Lack of communication and lack of social distanced queues/lines. Waste of time, disorganized, and potentially dangerous for your health. Avoid. Save your time and your health, and go to the SF DMV location instead. In SF DMV, not only were they able to assist me, they were much more organized and strictly followed social distancing protocols. read more

There are some seriously rude workers here. They act like they can't be bothered and forget that they're in a service industries. Maybe there are too many dumb people who show up and they get jaded from the daily dealings with stupidity... eye roll. So my license was about to expire and I figured I might as well get a realID. I thought doing everything online ahead of time would save myself some wait time. I popped in on a weekday around 12:30 and saw a long ass line of people waiting without an appointment and thought -- who the hell does that? Don't be that person. Unfortunately doing everything online ahead of time does not save you a whole lot of time. I was placed on a virtual line and was told to watch my phone -- aka no estimated wait time given... great. I guess that's better than standing in a physical line? It took about an hour before my virtual number was up and I was allowed inside. Once inside, it's like a crapshoot on what kinda personnel you'll get. Just my luck I get some very large angry woman who doesn't like repeating directions -- listen DMV staff: I know you're tired of giving the same instructions every day multiple times a day but it's been at least 15 years since I've been here so I have no idea which window or which line is where and for what. I'm sorry this is the only job you got where you can sit on your fat ass all day pushing paperwork but life isn't really that sad for you is it? Be prepared to go from one window to another for various reasons -- and don't forget the realID costs $35 -- technically I'm contributing to DMV paychecks. Before you leave, they'll have you stand in one last line where you'll be given a temporary license. Only took 7 days for my real license to arrive in the mail. Now here's the best part -- they don't give a shit about what you look like in your photo and you won't be able to retake another pic for about 20 years so hopefully your license doesn't look like you're out on parole. No, you didn't read the rating incorrectly. And I'm talking about a Gov agency to boot. I lost my DL a few days ago and cringed because of the anticipation of getting replacement. Online, in advance within a 100 miles of my home were at least 90 days out. I did see the DMV takes "walk in's" the only issue being one my get there very early otherwise risk sitting for hours waiting for a service person. Not so at Daly City DMV which is about 15 minutes north of my house in Burlingame. They open at 7am. I arrived at 0 Dark 30. Even so there were 30 people in line. Several staff came out and did quick checks with us-- reason for visit, checking any required papers to ensure you weren't wasting your time etc. Amazing thing- they opened 10 minutes early. R u kidding me? I checked in for the duplicate and Real ID. What the heck the form is the same as just replacing the lost license. Do this form online before you go to DMV. Once called the whole process took only 20 minutes. The facility was clean as a whistle-/ every staff I spoke to were smiling and pleasant and all said "good morning." I know this is what we expect when we go into a brand name retailer such as a bank or CVS ( not always good) but you get it. I highly recommend this facility. read more

LONG WAIT TIME. Also pls read for a warning to those who are coming here for out of state car registrations!!! You will wait at least an hour even with an appointment. (Confirmed by others here at this DMV). 2:20pm Thursday appointment for out of state car registration. Got in appointment line (which was longer than non-appointment line -- person at front was taking one person from each line instead of prioritizing the appointment line). 10 min wait to the front where they told me I actually had to drive my car to a different location and wait to get my vehicle inspected first. (Would've been nice to know this before). 35 min wait at the car inspection line. I was first in line. 5 min to park car in a different location after inspection - Very small parking lot, 10 cars idling and circling around for spots. 15 min wait - 2nd time now in the appointment line which is 20 people long, and another 20 people in the non-appointment line. 3:15pm I finally get to the front of the line again. The guy tells me I'm too late for my appointment so I have to wait in line with the people who did not make an appointment. (!!!) I reason with him (nicely but firmly) and he gives me a "new appointment" for this time. 200 people - the number of people (sardines) waiting inside the DMV after I get in. 4:21pm is the time my number is actually called. 4:30pm I'm done. The non-appointment line was faster than the appointment line. Got yelled at twice by two different employees. Once for going up when they said 9am. We were 9:10am. I forgot. They will also send you back for small reasons because they can't wait a second for you to write the date. They couldn't send us to wait inside and write the date inside? Really? Luckily the employee at the non-appointment line overheard and took care of us. At least 30 people in the non-appointment line went ahead of us. Never again. read more

Even if you filled out your application online, plan in spending 3 hours here. The employees are generally not very nice, and they speak to you like you're an idiot. If your English is lousy, bring someone with you that speaks fluent English. I see that the employees are not helpful to non-English speaking people there, as they believe that they are not required to provide translations. They also take terrible ID photos. I'm a dude, and my photo made me look like I was wearing lipstick. When you stand on the footmarker for your ID photo, start posing because they could take your picture before you're ready for it. I had a 10:10 appointment yesterday (Wednesday), but it took 2 hours before I was finished. all I needed was to renew my DL even though I already a Real ID. The 3 people that I interacted with pleasant and knew their jobs. However, I find the whole experience disconcerting. First of all the lines are not plainly marked as to who has an appointments and the walk-ins. I couldn't find anybody to ask and had to figure it out myself. An employee or security guard and clearly roped off areas would facilitate some of this confusion. What I find very disturbing is the whole sale cheating on the written portion that I observed while waiting for my photo to be taken. The applicant would be surrounded by friends and family guiding them on the answers that they couldn't understand or did not know. Even though the sign clearly state that applicants are not to be helped, this DMV office doesn't seem to care and allow this cheating to go on. These cheaters are a danger to others on the road if they are clueless about motor vehicle rules. This is an invitation for lawsuits against the State of California read more
