I didn't have an appointment so I expected to wait a few hours but only ended up waiting about an hour and a half which was a pleasant surprise. Fredrick, who helped me was so kind and extremely helpful! He actually took his time to go over all 3 things I needed to get done today which was so nice, I didn't feel rushed or didn't feel like I left with unanswered questions. Went to get Real ID and license renewal. Lady who checked all my documents was very mean. She really stressed me out. Very impatient. She had this intimidating fake smile and kept repeating what she needed even though I was already trying to sort through my documents. I had everything by the way. Got there early AF about 30 min before opening on a weekend and there was still a line!!! Came in to get a real ID and once they "opened" at 7am, there were a couple ladies that made sure we had all our documents, gave us a ticket, and as soon as we stepped in, another gentleman quickly pointed out where we needed to go. Granted my bf and I filled out our application online and we got there early but the process was so smooth and fast even without an appointment! I can't say for sure what it's like later in the afternoon but if you don't have an appt, I'd say go in the morning and make sure you have everything you need ready. read more

This review is for Julia. I received the most pleasant encounter I've ever had at any DMV ever from her. And she had a pretty flower tucked behind her ear - which sent out a good vibe. I had an appointment to renew my license. Got my number and starting filling out my paperwork and got called within a few minutes. I got up to Julia's window and was cautious to say I hadn't quite finished my paperwork yet (because most others would be annoyed), but she greeted me with a smile and said it was ok and was patient while I filled out the rest. Only problem I encountered was that I wasn't aware they didn't take credit and that's all I had with me. Not her fault. So I had to come back later. She felt genuinely terrible for me and let me know I could come straight back to her. When I came back (same morning), she greeted me with the same pleasant smile and attitude. Of course, I had to come back, but SHE thanked ME for coming back. Super quick transaction with her! I thanked her and she told me to have a wonderful day with a smile. The photo booth was pretty much next to her, so after I got my picture taken, I passed by her again and thanked her one more time for being so great. Then she thanked me for being so sweet and was smiling and seemed genuinely pleased that I took time to thank her again. There is an older white lady (don't know her name) she seems to be racist with an attitude as well. By far the WORST SERVICE EVER!!! passed my driving test here!! Jason was my examiner and I am so grateful to have gotten him he's so chill and the vibes were nice. Appointment at 3, got in the driving line at that time and started driving around 4:30. I passed with zero errors and the lady at the counter said in fifteen years only 3 have passed with zero errors and now I have too. I am SHOOK and so so happy and grateful. On May 3, 2023 at 2:40 p.m., I visited and was lucky enough to encounter one of your employees, Oswell at Window 38. As Oswell was completing my driver's license renewal application, that I submitted online, he was courteous and helpful and made the situation easier by joking. He congratulated me on passing the driver knowledge test. I truly appreciate the cheerful way in which he completed my application. Being in the DMV office was pretty intimidating and not knowing whether I had all the necessary documents for my DL renewal, I was very nervous. The light hearted encounter with Oswell changed all that. He provided a level of service that truly exceeded my expectations and made me feel valued as a customer. I can't complain at all with the service I got this morning. I came in without an appointment which I thought I was going to be there all day, but no I came in around 6:30 am? and there were a few of us nothing crazy. But they opened the doors for us half an hour earlier, so we won't be in a cold outside, I thought that was very nice of them. At 7am they were starting calling numbers which we were ready with all the paperwork already. Great!!! So I got out around 7:30 am, for a DMV being that fast, wow I was impressed. 50 years of driving experience brought me to the Fullerton Office for my License renewal! On arrival, I found a line wrapped all the way around the building! Thanks to the attendants, I was inside the front doors in 10 minutes! Very organized! I was impressed! I arrived at 8 am and was finished before 9 am. Best experience with the DMV since I made landfall in California in 1973! The only thing which I brought to their attention was the window attendant refused to add my VETERAN status to my license because I didn't have a certain (unknown) VA form! My past experiences with the Fullerton DMV had been unpleasant, rude and stressed out customer service reps did not even smile. todays visit was pleasant, and made me feel like an appreciated customer. Started with Derek the security guard, he is respectful, pleasant, professional and eager to help. He directs visitors in a gracious manner, he it shows he enjoys his job. Derek makes people feel welcomed and appreciated additionally, he pays attention to guests safety. I greatly appreciate the "New DMV employees attitude" They seem to understand customer service. I visited here on Aug 22 2019 to renew my DL. On their site they open at 8am but they actually open at 7am. This might save you big time. I went there on friday 7am and i didnt see any line around the building at all. Even i was leaving the building i saw 7-8 people in the line. My only negative experience was that everyone work there was friendly and nice but the lady who helped me at the window was very very rude. She didn't greeting, no smile and talked to me with a little attitude for no reason. Without seeing her today, it would've been a great experience here for my first time. read more

Mission: Transfer car title/register my used car. Setting: Fullerton DMV on a Tuesday morning at 8:15 AM. Catch: No Appointment. Driving into the parking lot and seeing the line of about 50 people already standing outside the building and around the block was a big downer. I reluctantly parked my car, got my shit together, and went and stood in the line. Probably another 20 people got in line after me in less than 15 minutes. Total waiting time outside on the curb, 40 minutes. Finally got inside and they gave me a number. Total waiting time inside, 25 minutes. I got called up expecting to be attended by some stereotypical rude employee. Instead, to my surprise, I was greeted by an attractive 20 something female. She took my paperwork and entered it into the computer. I paid the fees and got my tags and new registration. I was out in 10 minutes. Total time 75 minutes. Mission Accomplished. read more

Dustin Maverick Vance. That's my buddy's government name, so a nickname that he's had in the past are his initials - DMV. I'm positive that it wasn't because he likes to be constantly associated with the Department of Motor Vehicles. This Fullerton Office is open Mon, Tues, Fri - from 8am to 5pm. Wed from 9am to 5pm. Closed weekends. I recommend bringing a check, CASH, or money order, cause only certain field offices accept ATM or Debit Cards. Credit Cards are not accepted forms of payment. The best advice that I have is to make an appointment online before heading to this Fullerton Office or any other office. A non-appointment request on average can take over an hour to reach an actual representative for assistance. Due to all the state's budget cuts, that long running joke about how slow it is to get service at the DMV is actually more of a reality these days. It cost me $33, a photo, and an eye exam to renew my license. With my reservation, I was able to get out of there in 15 min. First, you stand in line for those who made appointments. The handler will print your assigned number. Then, the automated system will loudly announce that number over the speaker and the desk number that you'll report to. I would refrain from yelling out BINGO. Took about 5 min to actually get my number called and 10 min for the paperwork and photo. Not too bad, considering there was a line forming out the door and faces full of annoyed looks for those who didn't. I would give 4 stars to this Fullerton Office, but that would mean that I'd be a fan of the DMV and I'm seriously not. I think they make enough money for my registration each year, not to mention the amount of taxes and miscellaneous fees that our great state of California expects from us in our lifetime. read more

To the Woman working window #8 on tues/wens of this week, you do not have the right to make other people's lives miserable at the dmv just because you are over weight and unhappy with your job. I get it, you deal with frustrating people all day but taking that out on them is not fair to the patron waiting 3 plus hours to hear and deal with your disgruntled / sloppy appearance. Not to mention the lack of clarity and and tone in her short responses... All I needed was a copy of my driving record which should have been less than 5 mins if that AFTER MY NUMBER BEING CALLED... This was not the case ... After asking for my report she took her time pulling up my records, then tells me she needs to go to the back to get change being the report cost $5... I handed her a $10. Little does she know I am paying close attention to her every move and see that she is laughing joking and frankly just wasting time with other employees in the back room! There is a little window but still visible enough to see her waste my time, the DMVs time but most importantly the PATRONS WAITING 3 PLUS hours... When she finally arrived back her desk she mentions to me " you wouldn't believe how hard it is to get change around here" like really? Your an employee of the dmv and your going to tell me you spent the last 30 mins looking for someone to break a $10 bill? At this point all I wanted was my change, the driving report and if she could get me a list of classes approved by the dmv for first time of offender duis.. She simply stated " we can not give out any information regarding those classes" but yet the dmv is requiring that I take this class? HOW CAN YOU NOT GIVE ME INFO ????? Long story short called the corporate DMV office in Sacramento and she helped me in matter of seconds !! and mentioned that the personnel at the DMV - do have the information provided to them that was denied to me simply because I was upset with her wasting my time!! I hope that someone in upper management reads this and does something about it.. This is the year of the dreaded 'in person' license renewal. Oh, how I bemoaned my fate. I shared with others simply to gain their sympathy, and I got it. Woe is me. 1. First, definitely make an appointment. This can be done online quickly and painlessly. However, be prepared to be flexible. You get the time that is available. No negotiations. 2. Next, have cash, check, or debit card ready. 3. Also, fill in your paperwork in advance. 4. Finally, show up on time. I did all of that and was in and out in 15 minutes from the time of my appointment. The staff was reasonably friendly. The lady at the camera even told me to smile. LONG FREAKING LINES EVERY FREAKING DAY. Even with an appointment, you should expect to be waiting quite a while to get your stuff done. Requested two separate appointments online and each of them was about a month's time down the road. Man. I guess this place is a hub. Thinking it was just this particular location, I searched around the nearby DMV offices online and tried to see if I could get an earlier appointment. All surrounding field offices had appointment availability that was even further extended into the calendar. I was shocked, but resolved, so I went back to the Fullerton site and booked. This place is pretty big and despite the crowd, the processes are fairly organized. Don't let the long lines discourage your. You'll be moving relatively quickly...relatively. All forms and booklets needed are readily available for you to take, all of which are clearly labeled around the office. Employees are DMV employees, though on a couple of occasions that I've had to come, I've experienced friendly service. From replacing a stolen license to renewing my M1, the Fullerton DMV has been a convenient location for my transportation formalities. 3 stars for offering all DMV services, but plus 1 for the size, speed, and organization. Don't let appearances fool you. This place is actually running on all cylinders. read more

The day of my deliverance had finally come. After enduring six months of sitting in the passenger seat as GMIT practiced driving with her learner's permit, we came here for her driving test. I had made an appointment online the week before, so we got to bypass the "Start Here" line with the numbering system and go directly to the shorter driver's test line in the back. The clerk was youngish, pleasant and efficient. He was calm and respectful when giving an older gentleman directions to another line. He looked over GMIT's paperwork, and pronounced us eligible for the test, directing us to take our car to the drive test line out back. I drove the car around and we waited for a while in line. When we finally got to pull forward to the front of the line, we saw a stern-looking examiner walk by. She reminded me of the psychic in "Poltergeist". GMIT and I cringed. We didn't want her. She looked scary, like she ate teenagers as hors d'œuvres. She passed our car. Whew!! I hopped out so GMIT could get situated in the seat and make her adjustments, yada yada yada. As I grabbed my burrito (see Chef K review) from the back seat, a voice announced that he was now really hungry. I turned and faced GMIT's examiner. GMIT got Mr. Cool for her driving test - late 20s, spiky hair, soul patch and easy-going demeanor. SCORE!! I thought she was going to have it easy, until he shooed me and another parent away from the testing area, telling us we needed to go inside or wait around the building. I hoped that me standing there wouldn't adversely affect her. Maybe he was actually strict and terrifying, and that supercool appearance was a facade... But I went around the building to the drive test conclusion area, and waited there. There's no benches over there, so a few other parents and I just stood around. 20 minutes later, GMIT and some other cars returned. One kid hopped out of the car right away and went with his dad back into the building. After a long while, another kid, a girl, emerged and walked sadly to her mother and handed her the keys. Finally GMIT's examiner came over. He looked serious and wouldn't look me in the eye, then said she was so close, pinching together his fingers. Then he said he was kidding and that she'd passed, as a broad grin broke out over his face. Mr. Cool has a sense of humor. GMIT and I returned to the drive test clerk, who processed her paperwork, again cordially and efficiently. He handed GMIT her temporary driver's license. And one hour after arriving at the DMV, I was free. In short, make an appointment for your DMV services if you can. It saves a lot of time. read more

I haven't been to a DMV since I was 16 years old...I came to this exact one to take my drivers test and now I'm back to renew, take a vision test and new picture! Okay...where would I even begin?? I felt like I was in an international airport because you pretty much have every single demographic in the world here. If I was a writer...trying to make up some characters, I would just head over to the DMV and people watch...so many interesting characters to see and dissect. I love it!! So many disgruntled and angry people...which then make the workers very unpleasant. My total wait in and out: about an hour! Not too bad...but seriously making an appointment, don't even bother. It made no difference. The cool part was they had a little electronic runner that had the wait time at other DMV locations. Santa Ana: 8 minutes...damn, I should have gone to Santa Ana. The lady who gave me my vision test was cordial, however she just kept on talking to her co-worker the whole time, like I wasn't standing right in front of her. Then she told me to go to camera 1...which was down...so i had to wait in this long ass line for camera 2...if both cameras were working then it would be faster. Overall, I thought they were very organized and fairly quick considering the large amount of people there! read more

For being a DMV office, this place was pretty good haha. It was really clean and organized, with lots of signage. The crowd wasn't so bad, and we got there about a half hour before it opened and our wait once we got inside was about 15 minutes. The guy who helped us was great, he even walked us all the way to the other end of the building to the pick-up-your-tags line. That's probably not what it's actually called, but that's what I picked up there, so whatever haha. I usually go to the Laguna DMV cause it's fast & easy, but Fullerton was just as great! read more

Make an appointment! Seriously. Make an appointment unless it's an emergency. We arrived 20 minutes before our appointment and left 9 minutes after the appointment. That's a 29-minute wait even with an appointment. There's always a general rule when it comes to the DMV and that is to visit between Tuesday-Thursday after lunch. Half of the parking lot was empty and the line was not long at all. I feel like the wait would have only been an hour to an hour-and-a-half if we didn't make an appointment. Did you ever read Dante's Paradise Lost? Best part is the Inferno, where the sinners undergo various tortures. I'd say the seventh circle probably should include a trip to the DMV, where you'll see your tax $ at work. These are people getting above market salaries to perform rote tasks so they can take home a State of CA pension, all paid for by YOU! Tip1: Make an appointment online if at all possible, and realize that the signs won't help you until you're close to the door, so check them out before joining the long line or you'll waste (more) time. Tip2: If you wear monovision contact lenses, consider using your glasses so you can ace the vision test. The DMV staffer I had wondered why eye doctors do that kind of correction (I guess after she got her medical degree she decide to blow off being a doctor and work at the DMV), and couldn't grasp the concept that I wouldn't be driving with just one eye open (not being a pirate). If I hadn't been allowed to squint and move a bit away from the eye checker, I'd have been in trouble. Tip3: Good luck on a decent picture. The DMV should join the 21st century and let you take a look and ok it. Come on ... you've already wasted an hour of our time, at least let us have a good pic for the next 15 years. read more

What a pleasant experience! I never thought I would ever say this about any DMV, but I had a very quick and efficient visit today. However, HUGE DISCLAIMER: I made an appointment online and my transaction was relatively easy. I made an appointment for 11:20 am. I got in line, but then realized that I was in the wrong line. Make sure to line up at Window 20 for appointments. I got my application, filled it out, and got my number. I waited for maybe 5 minutes. Then, I went to the window, gave her the application, and took a quick vision test. I had to verify that the information is all correct. Then, she told me to go to Camera 1 for my picture. Now, I wished the picture guy gave me a chance to see my picture... I probably look terrible, but whatever. I was out of there by 11:50 am! This was the most painless DMV visit! Woo hoo! Tip 1: Make an appointment online. It will save you TIME! Tip 2: Smile the whole time once the guy/gal tells you to step behind the line... because he doesn't tell you when and will just snap a picture. Tip 3: Bring cash or check! read more

I had to go in to renew my driver's license, which involved changing my address and taking a new picture, and I was in and out in less than 20 minutes. The same can't be said for the other 100 people waiting to be seen. It was about a 2 hour wait for them, but because I had an appointment I jumped to the front of the line. My drivers license was expiring soon so I opted to get the Real ID, along with my wife. I uploaded all the required documents to the website and printed our confirmation numbers. We got to the DMV at around 9am on a Friday. I was expecting a ton of people but the line was short. We were asked by a worker what we were there for and given a yellow paper each. We had to write the online confirmation code in the square and had our temperature taken. 10 minutes later, we were directed into the building and waited 5 minutes in another line where our documents were checked and then we were given a number and asked to wait in the lobby until our number was called. This took about 20 minutes and I was called up, asked for my documentation, confirmed my information on a touchscreen and had my thumbprint taken. Then I was asked to do the vision test, paid the renewal fee and was given another piece of paper and told to wait in another line to get my picture taken. I waited another 10 minutes for my wife to get her stuff done and we waited in the picture line for another 10 minutes and we were done. In total, it took about a hour, which was pretty fast and painless compared to past DMV experiences! read more

Came here the day after to Christmas to renew my car registration. I checked online to check the time they opened and it said 8:00 AM. So I woke up and went to the DMV at 8:05AM and by then a line of about 30-40 people have already been waiting. I waited in line waiting for it to move but the people around me said that they won't open until 9:00AM. I saw people leave the line and even asked other people if they thought the DMV opened at 8:00 as well. This DMV should have clear and distinct times so we do not have to waste our time standing in line for hours. I previously went to this DMV a couple times before and although the wait is never too bad. Waiting an extra hour for an error on their part is unacceptable. Regardless of the waiting times, the DMV itself is okay. The people there are doing their job and are nice. read more
