The social security workers are all fine and the time is reasonable, even though you may have to wait for over an hour. Solving each person's need takes a while, and the workers are doing the best that they can. You just need to sit quietly and be patient and wait. Unfortunately, this office has two private security guards who enjoy abusing the clients. So much so that my advice would be to avoid this office. Even if you are quiet and keeping to yourself, they may come over and try to pick a fight. If you are not extremely careful, or you say anything that they consider to be challenging or argumentative, they will escalate their abuse into a physical conflict where you very well may end up being injured. There are two of them and they will win in any conflict they start. You would be well advised to simply avoid this office for your own safety. An injury could end up leaving you disabled or in pain for the rest of your life. You see in the news about all the road rage drivers, right? These two guards are not in any car, but they come to work looking to challenge anyone and everyone. There are just some people in this world who go out looking to create problems as a way of feeling better about themselves and that describes these two people perfectly. The other reviews here and on google verify this exact problem. So, the guards are clearly a problem for everyone. My advice would be to simply use another office in another city. This review is solely for the employee named "Ms. Roseborough". We received her contact information from the office. We reached out numerous times regarding the status of an appeal. She never picks up the phone and all calls go straight to voicemail. We actually received a call back about 2 weeks after leaving the first voicemail. Was told then that she would be calling back within 2 weeks to go over the case. This was back in October of 2024. It is now April of 2025. I have since left several other voicemails; however, only received a call back on January 31, 2025, after threatening to hire a lawyer. I missed that call and she left a voicemail saying that she was working on the case and that it should be done within 2 weeks. Since that she never returned an calls without any updates. How do you treat someone who has lost a loved one and trying to get their affairs completed so rudely. Security out front are rude and condescending. I went twice after spending 3 hours to get an appointment to get my deceased father's social security 1099 so I can complete his taxes. He was a Santa Ana Police Sergeant and would have been appalled at how rude this "officer" was to someone who just needed to ask a question. The representative kept repeating not to ask the guards questions and to ask the representative. I asked if I could speak to the representative to ask my question to which I was told, they are not coming back outside. I thought he was joking because how can we ask if they cant come back out like they had already done at least 5 times? All I needed was to confirm they had my correct phone number for an upcoming appointment I had made because they gave me a date over the phone but no time, no documents required, etc....HORRIBLE read more

The worst place. Waited 3 hours to ask at the window to withdraw my retirement benefits application. She told me she couldn't help me because the application was already sent in. Instead I would get a call from the Richmond office from the processing officer for an interview and I would just need to tell him/her I wanted to withdraw. She reassured me my application was not going to be processed until I got a phone interview. Well it got processed even before I got processed and there was no phone call! . I called the processing officer and a few other people before I got to the right person. Now, the only way I could withdraw the application is to go to an SAA office in person and fill out a physical paper and submit it at the window. I had to argue with a couple of SSA staff on the phone because they started to talk and wouldn't stop to let me speak. So frustrating. THE WORST SERVICE IN THE USA!! OR THE WORLD!! read more

Terrible. Even on the overall background of atrocious SSA services in general. Can't make an appointment in any way, have to come to office and wait and last time suddenly they say that now you have to come only by appointment which is indicated now on their front door message. Considering there is no their phone number published anywhere (you need to come over and ask them to give it to you) and no web site (except national SSA which has no options for appointments and no information other than street address of local agency) you need to come to the office, read the announcement and then call (national number - 2-3hrs waiting time and no call back feature) to make an appointment. And if that were a sure bet - on several occasions agents did not know the most basic information (like checking to ensure your benefits were calculated correctly and filling out the IRMAA reduction request form). However, the worst about that was that they (yes, it was not one singled out agent) dont tell you they dont know but instead feed you clearly incorrect information and insisted on it when what looked absurd raised brows. Essentially, they are lying (I can only assume to cover their incompetence and wishing you just go away so they can put another mark for themselves for serving yet another customer). Overall, as said already, while the whole SSA business is completely wretched to begin with, this particular office is shining star - with all the SS rules and laws I can sympathize to extent with public servants trying to wade through it (even, again, we are talking about very basic and Id think common staff) but lying to customers is beyond that anybody (I think) can tolerate. read more

Went in today (11/4), I was here simply to get my name changed after getting married. Please note that MASKS ARE STILL REQUIRED HERE. I had no appointment. I was in and out within 20 minutes. The process was super simple: you check in at the kiosks, answer simple questions (they even give you an "I don't know" option for some questions), you wait for your number, and the workers were prompt and quick. The security guards were nice and even made sure that they repeated numbers that were called to help the process go faster. For starters, there is one particular security guard at this location that makes visiting so unpleasant. His demeanor and condescension are unbearable at times, but what are you going to do? It would be nice if someone capable of making decisions would look into this and make changes, but I'm not holding my breath. I doubt anyone at the SSA even monitors these reviews because service is not top of mind here. I know public service can be a handful, but that's the job. Trying to get help here is like pulling teeth. It is a massive waste of time. Want my advice? Be your own advocate because you won't get any help here. Trust me; it's a giant waste of time. That was super painless! I recently married and came in to begin the name change process. I read prior reviews and was hopeful that this wouldn't take more than an hour. I did line up like a crazy person at 8:19 am when they don't even open until 9am. Glad I did though because there were already about 30 people in line ahead of me. You can eat snacks in line but you can't bring it inside (water only). So the two ladies in front of me started shoving bananas and other snacks in their mouths when security told them to get rid of the food. It was hilarious! They actually opened the doors before opening hours to let the people with appointments get checked in and for security to check bags. For the people that complained about security not being helpful, you have to remember, they do NOT work for the SS office. They are outside vendors and their job is to provide security. They can't answer SS Division questions. I actually found officer Becerra and the other guy (didn't catch his name) to be very nice, funny and efficient. Once I got checked in, I was out of their in 22 mins. I spent about an hour total without an appointment. You'd probably get done a little quicker with an appointment but it wasn't necessary for me. Pay attention for your name. They give you a number when you get in the door but they take it when you get checked in and then just call you by name. read more

During the wait, I picked up brochures on identity theft and retirement. I didn't know you could make an appointment online. Parking was easy. To change your name they accept a state ID instead of your passport. When I saw the kiosk, I still had to ask the security guard how to get a number. He gave me an application form but you're better off printing one out online because there are only a couple of counters and no pens. I didn't like how some people would stand by the wall even though a whole row of seats would be empty. Those were the same guys who'd watch to see which handouts I would take from the wall, creepy. Numbers are called out in English and Spanish three times. There are restrooms inside. I sat by windows 1 and 2. I didn't like how some workers asked for the social security number so you'd have to say it out-loud because there is no privacy in the waiting hall. The music when you finally hear it over the sound of conversation on the other end of the row of seats, is the same kind they have for relaxation CDs (think lamaze class). This was my first time at a social security administration location. We must have been there under an hour and a half. read more

She made the process flow so smoothly even though I was missing 1 document. She went ahead and started the process. Also, she gave me enough time to come home and pick it. Wow I wrote my review on here last week and they seemed to have taken it down. WORST SOCIAL SECURITY OFFICE EVER. I mailed in my passport and marriage license to change my last name along with the application which contained my Social Security number as well as my parents to this office. AND THEY LOST MY PERSONAL DOCUMENTS. I only ended up mailing it to them since the useless worker on the phone told me that there were no more appointments available until the end of time lol.. I asked for the next available appointment and she just said that there were no more available appointments...that makes no sense. After months of waiting for my passport and marriage license to get mailed back to me I gave the office a call. I told Them that I was waiting for them to mail me back my personal documents and that my tracking label confirmed that my package was delivered to their office the day after I shipped it to someone named Vanessa. The worker on the phone confirmed that VANESSA was a worker in the office. I ended up talking to the supervisor Mr. Salcedo and he just told me that they never got the package. LIKE HELLO? I have a confirmation from UPS and the name of your worker who signed off on it. But he kept trying to blame UPS and told me to open a case with them to see if it actually was delivered. So I called UPS and they opened a case for me which took about a week they called me back telling me that the driver did stop by the office it was dropped off and the worker confirmed that Vanessa was working at that time. I called the Social Security office back to let them know and the worker wouldn't even let me talk to Mr. Salcedo. She was extremely rude on the phone and unapologetic when obviously this was THEIR FAULT. HORRIBLE PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW HOW TO DO THEIR WORK CORRECTLY OR PROVIDE GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. How can you lose someone's personal documents and be so unapologetic? Will be reporting to FBI since apparently THEY LOST OTHER PEOPLES PERSONAL DOCUMENTS TOO. read more

This agency is a complete joke. They have literally the WORST customer service ever. I mailed in my daughters original documents to get her social security card, and yup you guessed it, they lost them. They have no record of ever sending it back to me because they don't have a tracking #. They refuse to give manager extension numbers and they won't transfer you to a higher up to assist you. I spoke with Mrs. Shaw, who claimed to be a manger, and she knew nothing. She was really rude and literally hung up in my face. Can't make this stuff up. It's ridiculous that our hard earned tax dollars, pay the salaries of useless employees. I'm disgusted at the level of incompetence and the service that was provided. I do not appreciate two things: 1. The sign in sheet ask for you full ssn if feels like there is no privacy when entering sensitive information it's in the open for people to see. 2. There is a security guard that comes off as a.... As a female enters, he asked to check her purse which is fine but when he make comments like your boyfriend is outside and can probably kick me ass.. My thoughts are what kind of person would say something like that in a professional environment? And secondly what makes you think it's okay to classify me as women that would have a boyfriend especially that I am gay! When I corrected him about the comment he made, he continued to make more comments. Agh!
