This review is for the Fullerton DMV. They have been improving service at the DMV since the last time I came here years ago. I came on Thursday morning and arrived at about 6:30am for an opening time of 8am. I was something like 20th in line for non-appointments. There wasn't an appointment person lined up until about 7am. At around 7:15 or so a person started to take appointment line people inside. Around maybe 7:35 or so another DMV employee started to come outside to pre-process people in line. That was very helpful. He started to tell some people to go home for whatever reason if they weren't needing to be here or whatever the case was, so the line got a tiny bit shorter. By 7am the line was already around the block I think. Anyway the preprocessing sped things up. I was told that the drivers license form (and real ID stuff) was no longer on paper. They send you to the testing room on the left to go to a computer to enter your data. Before you go in they give you a slip of paper and your number in line is on it. Once you finish entering info you write your confirmation code on the slip and just go back to your position in line. If you forgot who you were behind you can compare your slip number. I was processed in by around 8:10 and I was out of there by 8:30. I just had to replace my drivers license to make an update, and I had to take a new picture. It was really fast but it's good to get there super early. The first person in line was there at 5am he said. Lots of smart people brought folding chairs to sit on while they were waiting. Also good to bring reading material. Take note that the normal line is on the left and the appointment line is on the right if they are not open yet. Appointments and disabled people can line up in a special line inside on the right side near window 19 when the DMV is already open. If the building isn't open yet disabled people appear to be directed to stand in the appointment line even though they don't have appointments. Best thing you can do is come early whether you have an appointment or not. It will save you a lot of time. The employees were very helpful and friendly here for the most part. read more

I came to renew my CDL a few weeks back around 10:00 am and was told to with out an appointment I should just leave even though the place was half empty . So I did and went to the new DMV location in Stanton and was welcomed and greeted by several employees as I walked in . 20 minutes later I was on my way . read more

Let me preface this by saying that I just moved here from Minnesota and my only experience with a DMV was with the one I grew up by. Waits were always at least a half an hour or so, but it was generally a smooth process. I assumed this is how DMVs were run and it made me a bit nervous when moving to one of the more populated metro areas in the country. I was pleasantly surprised. I first did some research online to make sure I'd have everything I needed to get a license and to register my car. I found that I could make an appointment online. An appointment? Really? Well surely this must be some sort of gimmick to make people feel like they're being handled more quickly. Nope. With the appointment system, I only waited about 5 minutes after getting my ticket (I was there over the lunch hour so there was an explosion of people). The woman helping me with my paperwork was polite...as polite as one can expect when dealing with people all day long. Honestly, after seeing her handle the woman mouthing off to an employee next to me, she gets mad props for not wanting to throw her stapler at the woman. [tangent]The woman next to me was trying to get her title so she could sell it after having declared the vehicle totalled and collecting insurance on it (or something of that nature). Obviously trying make money she wasn't deserving of. Well the DMV employee tried to remain friendly while saying "you can't do that unless..." and providing her with a lengthy, but solid list of things she needed to do. This threw the patron into a rant that consisted of approximately 25% four-letter words directed at both the DMV employees and her own kids (who were tugging on her shirt and running around wreaking havoc). The employee helping me stepped in and laid the smack down with the quickness. Basically saying that there's nothing they can do unless she follows those steps, etc. The woman left screaming to someone on the phone and the employee helping me put her friendly face back on in a matter of seconds.[/tangent] So I had all sorts of special cases that required extra work of both myself and the employee but she was very helpful and didn't push me aside or pass me off to someone else. She helped me through almost the entire process that took about a half an hour. I passed the written test and because I didn't have a smog test done ahead of time, have to return to get my license plates, but I left feeling next to no stress and actually happy about a DMV experience. My only complaint was that in order to get my title transferred, I had to have my car inspected by a DMV employee. They had a line for this that, just before I drove into, was filled with some sort of service trucks that some company had just bought. They had two or three of them in the line and only one DMV employee was doing inspections at the time. As I pulled up behind them, the driver of one of the trucks tells me to pull into the other lane (which I wasn't allowed to do) because they were going to be there "for a while." So why not let me go ahead of you as my inspection will take 5 minutes tops? Nope, respect the line. I eneded up waiting for 30 minutes before a DMV attendant inside realized I had been waiting so long and came out to do the inspection. I wish she had noticed earlier but the fact that she did notice doesn't knock too many points off of this one. In total with the wait time, processing time and the wait for the inspection, it was about a 1hr 15min process (which I don't consider bad for a new resident). Thumbs up California DMV. read more

With an appointment: I arrived 10 minutes prior to the appointment line (always empty it seems) passed the long out the door non-appointment line and the receiving administrative was friendly, gave me my form I had to fill out to get my tags that never came in the mail and by the 10 min mark my number was called and I was helped immediately. The fastest experience at a DMV with an appointment. It was not difficult to locate, Apple maps guided me directly but instead of heading straight from the highway side I made a right on Valencia where an entrance greeted me to an abundant space lot. read more

I came for my behind the wheel today and I barely passed I got 14 wrong but the instructor still failed me because supposably I didn't check for traffic at one intersection , which I did. I was scanning for traffic with my eyes. He's excuse was that he couldn't see my eyes... I had on my glass without them I can't see and I have really sensitive eyes so I need my prescription sunglasses. I don't know his name and I don't want to be racist but it was an African America male, he saw I did and even agreed that I did everything else right. But I guess it's safe to give out license to 90yr old people who are out there killing people or running into buildings. read more

Make an appointment for 7:00am when they first open. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. If you don't have an appointment you could be waiting all day. The line for non appointments is crazy. Worst DMV in California. Hands down. If I could give zero stars and five thumbs down, I would. Everyone is extremely rude, almost feels like they enjoy being rude to people here. After 4 days of system failures, they finally got things back up and running. The line to get a ticket is an hour long. Then when we got to the point where our number was next to be called, they ALL left to lunch. Does this seem right to anyone??? Feels like a third world system. Been here a couple times since i got my license when i was 16yrs old. This time it was to get my motorcycle license. There were a few complications, but the lady at the drive test appt window was very kind about it and helped me sort it all out. When i went to take my drive test, the instructor (Kenny i think) was very kind which helped with my nervousness. I passed with flying colors and got out of there in no time. read more

So I went to this DMV to take my WRITTEN test & these lazy ass workers told me I needed to make an appointment to take the test so I just came out with nothing done & I just went online to double check & IT'S NOT FUCKIN REQUIRED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT to take your wttien test it is for the DRIVING test but NOT for the written test, no appointment needed. Boycott this fullerton dmv they ask for passport and profiling people of color in the entrance. That's very disrespectful and really made me feel like minority. Linda was the woman who helped us today with the renewal of registration and new plates. I know that DMV offices tend to carry a lousy reputation and the employees can be rude, but she was more than kind and very helpful! We were in and out of there in half an hour, despite waiting in line. It's a reminder that everyone should be treated with respect, and honestly most rude employees are likely cranky because customers are that much more disgusting. If you do not have an appointment, good luck. I have never been here when it wasn't wall to wall people. Now, if you're a people watcher- this place is heaven for you. Everything from mullets, to screaming kids running around with seemingly no supervision. Employees here are your standard DMV employees; dry, boring and pretty helpless. Best service I've ever had at DMV. I ranked four stars just because it was a bit crowded.

1. I told my wife I needed to use the restroom. I waked into this unsanitary mess . I had to walk out, it was completely gross. The DMV manager was waiting for the janitors to clean the mess, why could the staff pick up a 5-10 min mess. TEAMWORK!!!!! She seemed like she didn't care one bit. This DMV should have been in a ghetto area. There were no sanitary paper napkins, no toilet seat covers, absolutely nothing , there was feices ALLL over the toilet bowl. Disgusting. No one cares there . Soooo sad. :-( I was also upset because I told some of the staff my wife is disabled and she isn't able to stand for more than 10 mins and asked if she could take her ID photo quickly. The guy I asked looked at me as if he didn't care ,which is fine but it pissed me off that he told me," I don't see an old lady." These people are miserable and rude. I'd say there was only one guy that really helped and acted like he actually liked working . I don't understand people with no passion for what they signed up to do! read more

This is the WORST dmv! First off i get there to take my driving test they have an odd lane and even lane and the whole thing got messed up because the security guard did not know what he was doing. Everyone was getting out of their cars and fighting because the lines were very unorganized. Then during my test I was making a left turn but there was pedestrian walking in the cross walk in front of me NOT towards me then behind me. Yes the arrow did turn red but the pedestrian had not finish crossing the street yet. So i waited until she got on the sidewalk like you are suppose to do and then the DMV instructor had the nerve to tell me I waited to long to let the pedestrian cross!?!?! On top of that I had an appointment and it still took 4 hours. read more

This DMV is horrible ! My wife came here to renew her DL. A month later we get it in the . But they sent her a identification card instead of her DL. We called to set oan apointment to come back but didn't have anything for a month later. So had to walk in thinking since its there fault I would speak to the mgr and they push us ahead in like but the mgr said it didn't matter that it was there fault that he would not push us ahead in line and wait 2 hours to take care of there mistake. And top of it had to pay again for another DL. Horrible customer service and management! read more

TAT i'm new resident and i don't understand very well about what they are talking, they talk very fast n not patient at all. the guy working at the appointments window was really grumpy and seemed like he hated his job and didn't care if he was a jerk or anything like that.. so i made an appointment for 2:30 but i got there around 2:15ish and i was able to fill out all the necessary paper work. the line for walk-in was pretty long so i would definitely recommend making an appointment online before you head over here. if you have an appointment, go straight to window 20 with the grumpy asian man.. anyways once i got my ticket number, it only took about 2 mins before my number got called to proceed to a certain window. the lady at the window was really nice and helpful in assisting me. i was in and out of this DMV in about 20 mins. yay! moral of the story: always make an apt for the DMV or else you will suffer in agony in very uncomfortable plastic chairs surrounded by people who are pissed off cause they're at the DMV. read more

I come to this DMV for all of my car reg needs. And every time I have a great experience and am out in less the 20 minutes. Every person I talk to is respectful, helpful, and courteous. When going to any DMV always look ahead on the website so you don't have any surprises when you get there and arrive before they open and you will be within the first 20 people to be called. For a busy DMV, the customer service here was stellar. I've been to about a handful of DMVs: Pasadena, Kearsarge, Poway, San Marcos, and Santa Ana. The people at this DMV really try to make it as smooth a transaction as possible. I went with my three small children and we were out in a couple of hours. read more

I came here after work to renew my driver license and was pleasantly surprised. Total processing time was about twenty minutes. I arrived there at four p.m.. The security guard that I spoke to told me that it was best to arrive at the last hour of the day because they are anxious to process everyone that they can and it goes faster. They close at five. The woman who handled my application was surprisingly pleasant. Not at all what you would expect at the DMV. I would definitely come back to this location. read more

Because of a "glitch in the system," my mail in renewal never came, so I had to endure two hours at this hell-scape. The employees were nice enough considering their job is totally thankless, but are vague about where to go, and I repeatedly had to come back to the same window between a bunch of steps (them calling to confirm I had renewed by mail, getting my photo taken, etc) and each time had to wait for the person there to finish up with the new person they had called. It was so busy there weren't enough chairs for everyone. Honestly, I would probably have given this place an extra star or two because of the nice employees, except I didn't feel I should have had to wait so long for their error (not sending me my license), and very poor security. By the time I left, they were closed, and had locked all the doors. I couldn't figure out how to exit the building, and the security person was just sitting in a chair playing on her cell phone. read more

Accompanied my mom this morning for her 10:40 am DL renewal (Real ID) appointment. Arrived 10 minutes prior to scheduled appointment time , bypassed the long non-appointment line outside and went directly into the building to window# 19 appointment window to check in. There was only one person ahead of us checking in. Although we did forget a document needed for Real ID requirements we were able to leave to get the document and return without having to wait in the non-appointment line. Upon return arrival we got our number and called to window within one minute. Renewal application was completed on-line weeks prior to appointment which sped up the process and we were in/out by 11:15/11:20 AM. If you can wait for DMV visit....I 100% suggest making an appointment online. read more

I went to transfer a car into my name I had completed the pink slip and signed I accidently made an error on the back. The lady Denise in window 16 said ill need a bill of sale. So told her the gentleman told me this is all I need she looked at me with a sleek and said no. I ASKED MY BROTHER TO CALL THE GUY AND OFCOURSE HE DIDN'T GET IT the lady said ill give it to you. So then so asked why do I need a bill of sale and she said because you made a mistake or do you rather pay the tax on the 500 that you wrote? I said I don't understand and she wouldn't look at me as she was completing the form I said can you help me an answer my questions so waited over 1 hr and she said Indomt have to answer more than what you ask. GO to window 4 with your pathetic story with a smerck on her face I told her that was rude and I would NEVER treat someone like that she proceeded to say I don't care go to window 4. I obviously spoke to the manager which seemed to not care. Why do these people continue to get away with treating customers like this? read more
