This DMV is ok, it's not all bad like the other reviews say. First off, make an appointment like I did, otherwise it's a 3 hour wait. The wait in the car for the actual driving test only took about 30 minutes, and the wait for the paperwork was only 10 minutes. All the reviews I read were praising Vu and Maurice and I was hoping to get them. Maurice went to the car in front and my heart dropped and Vu was working inside. Instead I saw Romeo coming to my car and my heart sank even more. Every review I read about him said he was hard and he was strict. I will say in my opinion, he was very critical and wrote a lot of comments. He got on me for turning too wide and braking too late, and parking too far from the curb, even though you can park up to 36 inches (3 feet) away, but he says you have to park on the white area. Regardless of all that, I still only ended with 4 errors. But, there was a situation at the end where another car exiting the DMV ran a stop sign and I had right-of-way, but the car kept going, so Romeo got mad because he thought I didn't see the car and that I should've stopped, even though the other car had to yield. So at the end when we were reviewing the score sheet, he said, "I could've failed you for the end, but I'm going to let it slide because you were solid everywhere else." So, he's not that bad of an examiner, just very critical and comments on every mistake you make. Now about the course. I would say the course is 70% residential and mainly in the neighborhood of Oak ave, Elm ave, and West ave. Make sure you keep looking at the mirrors every 4 seconds, even at a red light or stop sign. Don't stop unless there is a stop sign, because you can fail for that, and always look both ways and at your mirrors at the intersections. The residential speed limit is around 25 mph, while the business varies from 35-45 mph. Just know all the rules, hope for a good instructor, and be courteous to them, and you will pass with flying colors. read more

I feel I am obligated to tell you of my experience at the DMV in Fullerton, CA. I won't say I'm a regular at DMVs or anything of that sort, but I have been two five different locations. I must honestly say that the DMV in Fullerton stands alone. I went to renew my license without an appointment. I figured I would have the usual 30 minute wait to be assigned a number. How wrong I was... How wrong indeed. My wait took approximately two minutes after walking into the comfortably air conditioned building on Valencia Dr. After filling out the renewal form, my number was promptly announced through the speakers by an automated, yet familiar voice. "G-143, Window 15" I walked over and was greeted by a smile from a lovely, young, Asian lady. She greeted me in Korean. I didn't know what to say. Well partly because my Korean is about equivalent to a two year old. I answered in English and after paying my $26, I got my Interim License and walked over to the picture line. While waiting to take my picture I noticed that several people, who did not speak English, were being assisted in their native tongues. Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Korean, etc, etc, etc... What service... DMV, I love you. GO USA!!!! read more

All I can say - never take your driving test here. They are so strict it is insane, I have been told that Whittier is a better place to take your behind the wheel because they are less strict. The woman was rude and I could barely understand what she was saying. Wow. Worst DMV in Cali. No in the US. There job here is not to help you, but to find any possible way to make sure you cannot be helped, kinda like themselves... i made two visits to register my vehicle. The first i waited 1 hour, and got window 31. She was nothing but directly rude to me and extremegly impatient. She made it clear she wanted to help me as little as possible and get rid of me. Peice of shit. I not only had to directly show her the rules of the dmv myself, but after proving her wrong she got even more violent, and still wouldnt listen to me, or give me the waivers i qualified for. Came back next day and window 8 after 2.5 hours. She wasnt rude, but wasnt polite. She was patient and listened, and after my long winded argument about why i qualified for a waiver she went to a higher up to give me the waiver.(though they should be knowledgable of their own rules and not have me do their job for them right?) Had i not done my dmv homework i would've lost 250 to these scums. The higher up spent another hour just trying to find reasons why i didnt qualify, even throwing at me incidnents that not only werent relevant to me the buyer or to why i qualified for the waiver, but happened two years ago and happened because of stolen plates. Fine i got the police incidnet report number, which she didnt even take, or right down, or double check to make sure i didnt bullshit her. Got my waiver and was then ushered to a lower employee. He didnt give me the waiver that the higher up just fuckin gave me and said she wasnt there to confirm the waiver anymore cause she went on lunch break and i would have to wait an hour for her for the waiver or just pay the extra 250 now. So after quenching the murderer in me telling me to burn down the place i argued with this fucker til he went to the back and came back not 5 minutes later and waived my fees. Payed the regristration and instead of giving me a temporary permit and reminding me to get the smog in as soon as possible, he gave me a one time use permit for the vehicle so i could only use the car to get it smogged while waiting for the new liscence plate/tags. So i smogged it that day and came back and went straight back there and got the actual fucking temporary permit cause no smart ass one use permit is gonna cut it. Luckily the very nice and aware inventory employee reminded me to get copies of all paperwork done that day cause the office was gonna put my permit under a suspension while they sent my papers in to sacremento to double check my qualifications for the waiver. Wow. Any other dmv and i wouldve gotten 8 hours of work that this dmv gave me in 2 hours tops with no hassle. Dont come here. Go out of your way to avoid these criminals. This is not a review it is a warning. The temporary permit had the reason for my suspension. I got suspension letter Z. After a little dmv googling i found that all letters stand for a legitimate reason except Z. It just stands for 'other'. This dmv needs entirely new staff. Ok, I just took the test on Aug 23, 2012. I found the route of the test using a Google search, and the route was posted online a year ago, but it was correct. It is very straightforward, but since I have a vision problem (blind in one eye) I had to make a turn SB on Euclid toward the end of the test on get on the 91 freeway WB, and get off at Brookhurst. If they ask you to get on the freeway, don't assume you are going to change lanes, because I was getting ready to change lanes, and thankfully he said "Get off at Brookhurst" twice, because once you get on at Euclid, the lane you are in is the exit lane for Brookhurst. The examiner I had was very nit-picky, and also had no personality, which I can understand since they do this over, and over everyday...At the end he's like,"I was confident you were going to pass, but then you did.....and all chances went out the window." Anyways, the wait wasn't too bad. I agree that they probably fail a lot more people, but when you pass at Fullerton, you know you deserved it. It was an overall nice experience. read more

I'm giving them 1 stars because the employee, Ishmel at window 19 was very friendly, and helpful. We had issues with our insurance and he told us what we needed and let us come back to the window same day even though we would have missed our appointment. However, the instructor and unfortunately I will not give her name but she obviously is a bitter old lady. Her first words to my son were, "Don't look at me, look at the road! " This was said while he was inching forward in the waiting line, while she was outside his window directing him. She barely spoke english (he had to ask her to repeat herself numerous times) and it was clear she had already decided to fail him before she got in the car. They came back within 7 min. She had marked everything you can mark wrong on his test. Even things they didn't encounter. He had to wait two weeks to retake, we went to another DMV, guess what? He didn't get marked one time for ANYTHING. He did not study or have any coaching in between tests, I guess he just miraculously became a great driver? read more

What a poor example of customer service. Tried to get a CF number for an inflatable Zodiac with a new 3 1/2 HP4 stroke Mercury outboard motor with a sticker " Ultra Low California Emission Standard". Paid the $115.00 fee only to be handed paper work and told that I needed to get the new motor smoged. Took it to a test station and they laughed at me and said outboard motors don't need to be smoged. They gave me a pamphlet for a non profit organization (asktheref.org) that helps resolve smog related issues, they indicated outboard motors don't need to be smoged and told me to call the Bureau of Automotive Repair. I called them and was given to technical support, they said outboard motors don't need to me smoged but could not provide me with a code to take back to DMV. I called West Marine the retailer that sells the boats, they indicated they sell 100's of these boats and have NEVER heard of anyone being required to have an outboard motor smoged. I went back spoke to a supervisor and explained what the agencies I called said , asking if I had filled out the paperwork incorrectly, he indicated he couldn't help me. All he could do was submit the paperwork to Sacramento for an exemption? I asked for a refund and the original clerk I worked with gave it to me and recommended I go to a different DMV. Now that's customer service. If you or I ran our businesses like the Fullerton DMV we would be out of business. You must make an appointment weeks in advance, stand in line for hours and deal with people that not only don't care about you, they do NOTHING to try to help you with an issue. I'm terribly unhappy with this place! There service sucks! On top of the lady giving tickets being inappropriately rude, so was the male I spoke with over the phone to make a DMV appointment. I agree there line of work is not easy but I'm always polite and nice. Their rude manner was uncalled for, the only regret I have is not finding a supervisor and expressing how unhappy I am with one of there employees. On top of that. On my next day off I was on hold for TWO HOURS, and I somehow got hung up on or disconnected... Seriously! Well my appointment is still scheduled and I was just calling to confirm, but my appointment better still be the same when I walk in there. I spent all day today trying to register a car. Then I was told what other documents I needed. When I got back with the documents, the guy that served me was not there so I begged two different staff to help me since I had waited 2 hours during the early afternoon. But they told me I had to get another number and start again. Eventually, my number was called and again I had to drive the car for inspection. I waited for at least 45 minutes before anyone came up to help. I had the most horrible experience with this DMV. They all have attitude problem, waving off customer like we are nothing. Came here to renew my license and the gentleman who helped me was super nice and helpful. My mum was with me for a written test and to re-apply for an ID card that she never received, and everyone she dealt with was respectful and efficient as well. A word of warning though, don't go without making an appointment. Wait times are LONG and seating is kind of limited. I am honestly blown away by the great service here (except for the lady at the front when we first walk in, but I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she's just having a bad day). Compared to Stanton, where, unlike everyone else says, I had an absolutely TERRIBLE experience the three times I went there, I'd recommend this DMV for any paperwork you need :) read more

Came here to accompany my mom for her driving test. I do not understand why they schedule appointments for the behind the wheel test when they are 3 hours late??? I had my driving test at DMV Torrance and I did not wait for 3 hours when I had an appointment! We went to a buffet after coz we did not eat lunch till after 4pm and we were starving after. Also, if you will be taking your behind the wheel test, beware of the old (over 60 yrs old) hispanic looking guy. He is grumpy and cocky. My mom has been driving over 30 years outside the US. He asked her to parallel park and she did it with no problem. He asked her to drive backwards right next to a sidewalk and she did so without hitting the curb. When he asks her to turn left, he does it right at the intersection and not even several feet before. She turns her signals on everytime he asks her to turn right or left. His comment after the drive? She does not use her signals before turning. How can she do that when u ask her to do it right at the intersection jerk!? When they were starting, he told her "ok let's get out of here." She then went out of the gate and turned right (it was right turn only). His comment was "why did u do that? Did i ask u to turn right?" Well old fart, u told her to get out of the compound so she did and it was right turn only. This is such a horrible experience here! Waited 3 hours when we had an appointment and she had to deal with that old, grumpy loser! Ugh! read more

I strongly encourage you to steer away from this DMV. We waited 3 hours, and still got kicked out with nothing to show. I even made a Yelp account just to review this ****** place. So my mother and I had a driving test appointment at 11:15 on 1/5/16. We get there, get our paperwork in, so far so good. So now we head out to wait in line for the driving test. As we get nearer, we see there's two lines so we change into the other line thinking there's two lanes now. Wrong. We talk to an Asian in his late 30's I think, one of the examiners. He's convinced we tried to cut back into the line when he was focused on inspecting a vehicle in front him. Oh so what? Know you have eyes behind your head? Anyways so I tell him, " the people behind us know we were in front" to which I hear him twist my words and ask them, "Do you know these people?" Lying little ****...so after they say no, he's convinced he was right. Asks us for our info and appointment time, we tell him. He goes around gathering the info from the cars around us and comes back to tell us to get out of the lane because the cars around us have 1 o clock appointments. I park on the red curb while my mom goes to talk to the manager and supervisor. HERE'S THE TWIST, we had talked to one of the security guards who put us in line, and had him explain to the supervisor after a good 40 minutes of arguing. The supervisor STILL WOULD NOT ACCEPT THAT HIS EXAMINER EMPLOYEE WAS WRONG. We were just going to get back in line to take the driving test but HE TOLD US TO RESCHEDULE AND COME BACK ANOTHER DAY. Like hell if you think we're coming back to that DMV. STAY AWAY, any arguments will NOT GO IN YOUR FAVOR. read more

Well, yes, as good as it gets for the DMV and let's face it, we're stuck with this baby as long as you live in this state where everyone wants to drive and no one wants to take public transit. I've been to more DMV offices than I care to remember (but if you're counting, at least 7 or 8), and this is BY FAR the best one I've visited, and is outstripped in experience only by the time I lived in the same apartment complex as a very nice man who happened to be a branch manager at the Culver City DMV and would take my paperwork in for me and deliver the needed items to my front door. Not sure that was legal, but it was pretty sweet. Since that plum situation no longer exists, the Fullerton DMV is the next best thing, practically a picnic on the beach compared to the other locations I've been to. For a relaxing, spa-like visit to the DMV, first things first: don't even bother to go without an appointment. I'm old enough to remember the days before they had an appointment system (cue old fogey music and creaking bones) and this overhaul is one of those lifechanging things that young people nowadays just don't appreciate ;) If you don't make an appointment and have to wait in a 3-hour line, IT'S YOUR OWN FAULT! Sure,sometimes the appointments are booked way in advance and you don't have much choice...but I've found the booking times here are far shorter than at other locales. If you have an appt. you can skip the "Start Here" line (which I always forget, so I wait in line until I see the sign that says, if you have an appointment go straight to Window X...so I did wait a few minutes today in a line unnecessarily, but that was my own fault for not looking past "Start here"...always read the signs at the DMV, always!) I was about 30 minutes early for my appt. and the nice lady at the first window gave me my form, explained it clearly and cheerfully told me, your # is about to come up so fill it out as fast as you can!" When's the last time you heard that at the DMV, huh? Sure enough, my number came up in about 3 minutes, I went to the next window where a friendly gal typed me in her computer, printed out my receipt and paperwork and waved me off with a friendly, "Have a great weekend!" I was out of there in 15 minutes, 10 minutes BEFORE my scheduled appointment time. The people on either side of me looked extremely angry and unhappy - I bet they didn't have an appt. and had waited on those awful chairs for 3 hours.
