After repeated calls to Social Security at a variety of phone numbers…read morefound on line, in letters written to me by Social Security and in my on line Social Security account and being on the phone on hold for an hour to two hours at a time over a period of a week, I finally drive over an hour to the local Port St. Lucie office. I needed to update my address and the account on line would not permit me to do that. I then found that my Social Security benefits were suspended for failing to update my address. Once I arrived at the Port St. Lucie office I found a security guard at the door handing out a number to call to make an appointment. No appointments could be made in person. The telephone number handed out is not the phone number on the website. After three disconnected calls to that number I was advised by the security guard that the phone automatically disconnects with no notice if a SS rep is not available within 17 minutes. I called the number 866-366-1627 one lat time before leaving the vestibule of the So Ila Security Office and was finally connected at 16 minutes out. I have no complaint about the social security representative. The rep resolved my issue and updated my address. Improvement MUST be made in representative availability and communication. So frustrating. Had I not gone on line to check my account I would not have known that my social security benefits had been suspended. The benefits are how I pay for Medicare so I could have also lost my Medicare benefits.

Stuart is known as the Sailfish Capital of the World because of the large number of sailfish in the ocean waters off the coast of Stuart. The Stuart Riverwalk located in the historic downtown has cute shops, art galleries, restaurants, and spectacular views of the St. Lucie River and the Roosevelt Bridge. The riverwalk runs along the edge of town on the banks of the St. Lucie River. Take in the boats, fish, birds, and the river. There is a health trail you can follow if you are looking for exercise. At the waters edge on Sundays the city offers the free Rock 'n Riverwalk concert series and the Green Market. You can pick up the $10 Tiki Taxi Cruises behind Mulligan's Restaurant where they pick every hour on the hour Thursday through Sunday. The old Fort Pierce Post Office was built in 1935 by the Works Progress Administration, a New Deal…read moreagency created by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1935 to put Americans back to work after the Great Depression. The post office was designed by Louis A. Simon in a Mission Revival style. In addition to serving as a post office, the building also held civic functions for the town. On February 11, 2092 it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The post office closed in 2001 in order to push traffic towards two newer locations. Fort Pierce purchased the property from the U.S. Postal Service in 2002. The city was looking for someone to operate a business in the building in keeping with their Orange Avenue plan which requires new businesses that open to support museums, art, culture, or music. In 2017, Ft. Pierce sold the Post Office for $139,000 to Fort Pierce residents who planned to capitalize off the Fort Pierce market and use the building to turn it into a 5 day a week local goods market inside. Construction of the market was supposed to have begun in the summer of 2017. The city turned down other offers from people who didn't have a concrete development plan. So far nothing has been done and the building remains empty.
