I took a moment to reflect on my good fortune, took some pictures and was back in the parking lot in less than 10 minutes. Most people were given numbers to wait and be called for service. If you're not a Manatee County resident, they won't even let you register anything. They say it's listed on the website, but I didn't see it anywhere, not online or on the intercom. If you don't have an appointment, they send you to another tag agency where the AC doesn't work and the staff has an attitude. Honestly, it feels like only the upper class or certain people are welcome here. Very disappointing and unprofessional experience.

So far, every DMV agent that we have spoken to out here has been delightful. They are all very nice, helpful, and they actually smile. I didn't know DMV agents knew how to smile. Each time weve come to a DMV, the vibe is inviting, calm, and relaxing. It must be that southern hospitality thing out here. There is lots of parking, and just an FYI, there is two exits. The one behind the building is a bit hidden, but it's there, and it's the best way to avoid the crazy, stagnant traffic on OBT.

Or just go to a kiosk at your local grocery store and get it immediately. I dropped a star for their lack of response to online email requests. Asked a simple question concerning my tag and never got a response. Before my father passed in 2023 he had put the car in my name but was allowed to keep his ex-POW plate. That plate is generally restricted to an owner who qualifies under VA rules. It may be issued by Florida, but it's a restricted plate. After he passed I asked how to replace that plate if necessary. Never go a response. Even tried calling but that's a mistake. Essentially it's, "make an appointment". I later found out through some digging around that I'm allowed to keep the plate until it expires at which point it'll be replaced.

However, two of the employees, Deijah and Tasheca could possibly change my mind about that! I'm a volunteer who handles the 2 trucks we use for our church, Crossroads Impact Church. ( https://crossroadsimpact.org/ ) I had to go to motor vehicle because the license plate sticker must have fallen off the plate on our trailer, and the truck registration was misplaced. So I needed a new license plate sticker and a copy of the current truck registration. My mind went to an hour wait time, then another half hour for someone to tell me somethings wrong and I had to come back! But I walked in, put in my phone number and was given my work number. As I entered the waiting room, my work number was already on the screen! I walked up to window #64, where Tasheca and Deijah were, I told them what I needed and I was done in less than 15 minutes!! So some good and some bad here. Easy to make an online appointment, which does VERY much make…read morethings faster than just walking into the office. However, it is still a hefty wait regardless, with my most recent appointment wait being a bit over an hour and fifteen minutes. It may also depend on what type of activity you wish to do while you're here. I do very much like the screens that show you were you are on the wait list. Your number will not appear until you are about 10 or less on the list, but it is nice to see some movement when you do get on the board. The staff does move things quickly and is very knowledgable. Once we were back to a desk it only took about twenty minutes to process both my husband and I for our new licenses with address updates. Overall: B- Takes quite some time, even with an appointment. Knowledgable staff helps move things once you do get called.
