I wasn't too upset about this because my current photo was terrible and didn't resemble me at all. If you do this, make sure to choose the at-home test option online. It costs $45, the same as taking it at the office, where the lines are insanely long. The DMV was packed! When my number was finally called, I was lucky to be assisted by Karen Gomez. When I reached her window, I told her, "Whatever you get paid, it's not enough." I had witnessed such rudeness from others there to take care of business. During the document verification process, because my child didn't have her own proof of address, I presented proof of our relationship and my own proof of address; the clerk flatly refused, insisting that the child needed a piece of mail with their own name on it as proof of address, and she was extremely impatient about it. When I asked to speak to a manager, she told me there was no need, claiming that no matter who I spoke to, my child would still be required to provide proof of address in their own name. This isn't my first time at the DMV, but it was definitely the worst experience I've ever had. A lot of people come here for services, but with 21 service counters available, the process moves along reasonably well. However, there is only one self-service kiosk, which is heavily used; I would suggest adding another one.

I do recommend scheduling your appointment online versus doing a walk-in. The walk-in line can get extremely long and you will be waiting forever! I mean i went in w/o an appointment and wham bang was accosted by a huge group of people seeking succor from the cali DMV! HA! I went through almost the entire process including taking a photo which made me look like Rock Hudson when it was published that he had AIDS! ( i swear. i look gaunt and ready to meet my maker!) Unfortunately i failed the test and decided to hightail out of the place. I spent over a week in SB for holidays and family illness issues and so i came here on the 27th to take my test over. First of all everyone working here were still on the high of Christmas and treated us all few applicants like long lost family members. It scared me initially and then i got into it. I did ask if i could take my photo over and the nice lady replied: $35 to redo. Ok for that. I mean for 35 bucks i could have a few drinks sitting at the Tee Off bar, right? In any event i passed the test easily, missed 2 and received graciously, my 2024 renewal. The peeps that work here are the best: full of smiles and helpful and caring.
