Stephen West's top-down shawl workshop at Do Ewe Knit was SUCH a blast!

I recently visited Do Ewe Knit for a shawl workshop with Stephen West, and Karen's wonderful shop far exceeded my expectations! I should mention I already felt like a friend when I arrived, as Karen is one of my Instagram favorites, but it literally just felt like home walking in the door. The shop is bright and colorful, stocked with some amazing yarns I hadn't yet had the pleasure to see and feel in person, and everyone was buzzing with excitement and so friendly. I live an hour south, but will make every effort to attend as many events at Do Ewe Knit as I physically can, and find myself considering a quick road trip most weekends! Also, not to be missed: the shop mascot, miss Ruby!

Oh. My. God. This was an outstanding yarn shop experience. Karen curates an incredible selection of indie dyed yarn and has such a cute place to house it all. Plan to spend time here. I stayed from 11-3:30, brought some knitting with me, and had one of the most enjoyable days ever! My haul was pretty epic, and because Karen brought it all into the store, there were no shipping fees or wait times for these goodies to be dyed up. My only regret is not bringing the pattern for the project I bought with me so I could dive right in. This was an easy trip from Port Authority via the 113N bus.

No customer service whatsoever. The website says no question or project too big or small for her personal attention. What a load of crap Customers are routinely ignored. Classes are overpriced, nothing taught in the "workshop", just "shop" was the overriding vibe AND there were tooooooo many people in there....a definite fire hazard! Owner is rude beyond belief. How is this women still in business?! Who would subject themselves to this treatment?! Lucky for those who live here that there are so many other options nearby

    Wonderful treasure find!

Not nice at all. Owner didn't even say welcome or offer to help when we came in. Classes are overpriced and yarn selection is limited.

If I had known this was going to be the case I would have never signed up. I am very happy I did! The Blue Purl is a beautiful shop. It looks like you're hanging out in someone's beautiful den (who just happens to LOVE knitting with TONS of yarn on shelves). Here's the brilliant part: The Blue Purl has several preset kits you can buy as gifts. Each one includes all the yarn you will need with a card or paper inside with color photos showing you what the end product will look like. This was *perfect*! I wound up finding a set and it made for a super easy purchase. One more fun thing: the shop owners will also wind the yarn for you at no additional cost. This is probably old hat for knitters but for me this was a very cool thing to witness so I had some fun too! I highly recommend The Blue Purl if you need gifts for a knitter or need supplies for yourself.

It's a real community spot. The yarn selection ranges from standard go-tos like Berroco and Plymouth, to lovely stuff from Malabrigo and Juniper Moon Farm, to indie hand-dyes. The trend seems to be toward fashion colors and styles. I'm not exactly a fashionista myself, and I still find it easy to leave with creative choices. Especially because everyone there has been so willing to help me discover something I can't wait to knit or crochet up. Right now it's a super yummy pima cotton dk yarn I'm using for a shawl, and next up I have a cozy soft 100% recycled yarn for a cardigan. (And while prices at some LYSs can get scary sometimes, they seem to have really reasonable pricing.) PS: Parking in Union can be tough, but if the adjacent smaller lots are full, there's also a big municipal lot behind the Dollar Tree. (You can walk through for a shortcut! Buy yourself a soda!)

Definitely a revisit for me when i'm in the area!!
