Patchwork Denim Shirt from Do Good Co.

Chris over at Do Good Co was not only friendly, but he took great care in helping us find products that fit our style. This company cares for its customers and its cause and I am eager to shop there again. Loving my patchwork denim shirt!

Found a little something for me!

This is their opening weekend and due to my having to drive there in the middle of the day, I was only able to pursue the latter. That's OK, because the latter was being offered in abundance AND what's more, it was all discounted due to opening weekend! Even a wine & spirits enthusiast like Yours, Truly, will take a good sale over a drink any day of the week. The store is sectioned according to each boutique (the store is a collective). Focus seems to be on indie designers. There is a wicked jean selection, and a variety of clothing styles to suit every taste, including my own, which I might add, is quite picky. I especially appreciated the super cute coat and jackets they have right now (to the right as you enter the store) and the studded purses and bunches of blingy costume jewelry and other accessories artfully strewn about the store. I should also add that the ambiance of the store lends itself very well to shopping, drinking and socializing. I LOVE the fashion plate murals on the wall and unique mannequins. Ceilings are super high and the vibe is that of an exclusive, trendy boutique, yet the staff are all extremely friendly. Prices are very reasonable. I couldn't help but think if this store, which has the vibe of a Soho boutique, actually had to exist in Soho, well, let's just say it wouldn't be possible to find an outfit that didn't set us back a paycheck or two (that's not to say I WOULDN'T be inspired to lose a paycheck here). Like I said, I didn't drink from the bar (oh, I was tempted!), but I am looking forward to going back when I have an escort, perhaps on an evening when there is an event going on (they are going to have DJ events according to the website). By the way, there are opening weekend drink specials tomorrow: complimentary mimosas and bloody marys! Alas, I have prior engagements. But I'll be back, Garment District.

It checks all the boxes: Locally owned? Yep, Kansas City ownership all the way. Made in KC? Yes, not a ton of clothing made in KC except for all the billions of screen-printers, but those are usually on outsourced tees. Sustainable? Yep. Made from bamboo, the fastest growing plant. Quality? 100%, these are meant to last. Altruistic? Very, and let me explain: I didn't realize this, but after going into MADI they explained that underwear is the most needed, yet most under-donated item in the US. That's for places like domestic shelters, in disaster relief scenarios around the world, for sexual assault victims in crisis centers, and on and on. Now get this: For every intimate you buy at MADI, they donate a pair of underwear. That's pretty badass, and they are sincerely helping out in the world in so many ways. You can buy from their website, but if you're in KC you can pop into the fun little shop around the other shops and restaurants on the hill in the Westside, and I highly recommend you do -- and gents, this makes for a great surprise gift for the Ms./Mrs.

And I must say, I love love loved Madi Apparel! To start off with their products are beautiful! I adored the lavender dye they used for a previous season and fell in love with a cute pair of shorts in the lovely color. A shawl/sari/wrap rounded out my purchases, a beautiful deep wine color that I wore the next day at work! The service was incredibly friendly and warm, explaining their mission and drive to provide undergarments to women in need. All in all a great visit, I'd love to see an SF or Berkeley location!

Many of the pieces have funny or profound sayings on them that can give you a chuckle. Some of them they even print in house. They've been selling in boutiques around town such as The Bunker, Westside Storey and MASH Handmade. Good news! They're going big time and have opened up their own retail space on Westport Road! The corner storefront is pretty large, and right now I'd say at least 75% of the space is dedicated to production. There are a ton of windows and thus natural light, and it's a clean and airy space that is a pleasure to be in. The merchandise is rather limited but well curated, and a number of other local brands are represented. Off the top of my head I can recall seeing products from local businesses Owl + Mouse, Sandlot Goods and Vintage Edison. This is, of course in addition to a full line of Normal Human's t-shirts for man, woman and child. They're brand new, in fact I don't think they even had a sign when I visited. As they navigate from wholesale to retail, I look forward to seeing what they come up with. I highly suggest a visit to Normal Human.
