One of the worst experiences I've ever had........ paid up front in full..... thinking my case was gonna go smooth, but nope. I was delayed for months and months. I chose Doan Law Firm for my bankruptcy. I was overwhelmed and stressed out because my debt was out of control. They set up an affordable payment plan for their retainer and did a great job of breaking down the cost of the bankruptcy and what to expect through the process. I really liked the convenience of taking both my bankruptcy classes online. I am a disabled person, so anytime I can save travel time, I am very happy! The only small kink was when Chris said I needed to hire a bankruptcy appraiser to do a full appraisal on my house, which was pretty expensive to me at a time I was really pinched for funds. But, I'm glad I took Chris' advice in doing this because the online quick appraisal was too bloated in home value and, if I went with using that, it could have caused unnecessary headaches. I recently attended a meeting at Doan Law Firm and it was a horrible experience. The person I met with, did not introduce himself upon arrival, would ask me questions and then cut me off while I tried to answer them, did not ask me about my situation, just took my paperwork and told me that I had a lot of debt which I already knew. He kept repeating that my financial situation was a tight one, as if he was giving me information I did not know. Not once did he make me feel welcome or was he helpful. He clearly just wanted to move me in and out of there and hope that I would pay them for my case. It was the worst customer service I had encountered in a long time. Bankruptcy is an emotional decision and he treated me like I was just a number. I cannot believe that in the end, he told me to call him to let him know what I decide. I read good reviews for Doans Law. That is why I hired their firm in the first place.I wish I never used this firm. Every interaction with the firm was through email. How unprofessional! I had an issue with their Paralegal and cancelled my account. Turns out, in order to start with the firm again, it was only a few days, and I received an email stating to start my case again they were charging me $200. I never spoke to any of the attorneys or paralegals, accept for one day when the paralegal called me. He was out of line so I cancelled. Bottom line, I walked away with no bankruptcy being filed and they kept my money. It took me several months to come up with the total amount. I cant believe they feel entitled to my money, and now I have creditors calling again. I am low income and they robbed me of my money! read more

We first went in to see if we could file for bankruptcy, but after meeting with Michael Doan, he told us that our annual wages were above the median income and therefor could not file. However, he handed us over to Attorney Karen Spicker who deals with debt settlement. So we met with her and decided to move forward. I'm really glad we did! We have been working with Atty Karen Spicker since Jan 2018 to settle some of credit card debt and have had a great experience. Communication is important and Karen responds to emails and voice mails promptly. She answers my questions and addresses my concerns in a timely manner. And if for some reason, she isn't available, her assistant, Karla is. They also have convenient office hours, with extended closing times on certain days, if you need to visit in person and can't get in before 5pm. At this next meeting the attorney hardly introduced himself, had not familiarized himself with the information given prior to the visit and was combative, jumping to various conclusions. He seemed more concerned about if he would make money taking the case vs. how he could help and did not listen to what we were saying at all. I would not even give them 1 star if that was an option on Yelp (maybe they can add that)- About DOAN LAW FIRM: I wish we could have seen wolf in sheep clothes...but alas we did not. We were lied to about the entire bankruptcy process. When you first go to Law Firm you meet with "bankruptcy analyst" and ours was Tim Jackson. I used the San Diego lawyer referral service (which I will contact and let them know about our experience)--I asked Mr. Jackson if I decided to file if my husbands assets would be affected by it--he said "NO" -He stated that I could file and all my husband needed to do was sign a document (which they provide) stating that he was not part of case. When I had my next appointment with Mr. Jackson, my husband joined me. My husband again asked Mr. Jackson about bankruptcy process. He stated to my husband that keeping our vehicles and assets would not be a problem. Mr. Jackson stated that each us would be able to keep up to $30k worth of assets. NOW, 03/28/2011-we are getting a totally different story by another person Mary Jackson (Tims'Daughter-who also works at Doan Law firm--hmmm getting suspicious? you better--yeah its a "FAMILY"business-keeping all the $$$ they make in the FAMILY!). Well, now let me tell you what she says: Now you are saying, which the amounts, figures and story has been changing all along this process, that if we file together that we only get $23,250!!! NOT EACH but together! Well if I would have known this from day one and this was disclosed to me, we would have never hired your law firm and set forth to file. With the 2008 troubles, I was out of work for three years. Doan set up a payment plan that I could afford. When it came time to file, Marry gave me a call to come in to get through the paper work. I got myself so deep in debt and tried my best to stay above water for over a year making minimum payments after being laid off. Finally, it got to be too much and couldn't even make the minimum payments anymore. I was referred to Doan Law by a friend that used them and went to do a consult with Tim Jackson. He was compassionate to my situation and fully upfront with me on avenues that were available to me. He made sure I understood the consequences of my decision to file either Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 and the pros and cons of both. I was extremely stressed by the whole ordeal and the staff and Attorney did their best to calm my nerves. They assisted me in locating the required documentation to go forward with Chapter 7 and having them basically hold my hand through the process was nothing short of endearing. I had no family support and didn't want to involve my friends in this. The Law firm provided me with the foundational support to go through this on my own. Doan Law was able to get my case finalized in just 3 months and now I am able start fresh and leave all those worries behind. Worthless. Said we were qualified to file, got 3 months of payments out of us and then said we weren't qualified because of an error they had made on the paperwork during our initial consultation. They put us down as having 2 kids instead of 1. Too coward to return my calls or emails but had the audacity to send me a letter saying that I owed them money for the paperwork that they completed. Tried to convince me to buy another car or let them "adjust" the paperwork so that I would qualify. Swore up and down that the board of trustees would never notice. This is how they treat military veterans. Luckily we won the arbitration case because they wouldn't even show face at the hearing. They sent a lady that knew nothing of our case. Even though we got our payments back, my car had since been repossessed because I was instructed to stop making payments for the 3 months and all my accounts went into serious default. I wouldn't go here for relief...you'll just get more financial stress. It would be hilarious if they responded to this review after they tried so hard to avoid me throughout the process. If I can save you from there greedy clutches, then I have done my job.
