Tresp Law File No. 23-01791…read more After approximately three years of representation, the mineral deed issue became the final straw in Plaintiff's dissatisfaction with Tresp Law. Under the settlement, Defendants were responsible for causing one-half of a specified royalty interest to be transferred to Plaintiff. Tresp Law stepped in and represented that it could handle the deed preparation more quickly and less expensively than if Defendants continued handling it themselves. Tresp Law then spent months researching, preparing, and recording the deed, and Plaintiff paid the firm for that work. The deed was recorded on February 24, 2026. Plaintiff terminated the attorney-client relationship on March 4, 2026. Tresp Law itself acknowledges that the deed work was performed while it represented Plaintiff and that the purpose of that work was to carry out the transfer required by the settlement. After the representation ended, the operator responsible for administering the royalty interest advised that problems existed with the deed and that corrective documentation was required before the interest could be properly divided. Plaintiff requested a refund of the deed-preparation fees. Tresp Law refused. In its August 26, 2026 response, the firm stated that the deed had "conveyed to you an undivided one-half interest, as the Settlement Agreement contemplated," despite the operator's determination that corrective documentation was required. Tresp Law's position appears to be that because it researched, prepared, and recorded a deed, the work was "performed and completed." Plaintiff's position is very different: the firm was paid to prepare a legal instrument that accomplished a specific transfer, not merely to produce and record a document. For Plaintiff, Tresp Law's refusal to refund the fees or otherwise accept responsibility for a deed that required corrective work represents a refusal to stand behind the result of its own legal work. This review addresses only the mineral deed issue. There is considerably more to Plaintiff's three-year experience with Tresp Law. Additional video reviews addressing specific communications, billing issues, litigation decisions, and supporting documents will be published on various social media platforms so viewers can review the record and reach their own conclusions. One of Plaintiff's broader frustrations with Tresp Law was the distinction between work being performed and the case actually moving forward. Plaintiff often felt that tasks were completed, time was billed, and invoices were generated without a corresponding sense that the litigation had materially advanced. In Plaintiff's opinion, a client should not confuse activity with progress. And perhaps that is the larger point. If Tresp Law devoted as much energy to efficient, careful, results-oriented work for its clients as Plaintiff believes it devotes to disputing or attempting to remove unfavorable public reviews, Plaintiff's experience with the firm might have been very different. In Plaintiff's opinion, a law firm's reputation is better protected by the quality of its work than by trying to control criticism of that work. Note that I didn't care about suing anyone or carrying on a court battle. All I wanted was these tenants who refused to pay rent out of my life. Attorneys are expensive, and the whole situation drained all my resources. After speaking to other attorneys in my area who wanted outrageous amounts of money, Chris Ridgeway agreed to meet with me and consult my case. After explaining him the situation Chris Ridgeway decided to take my case knowing that I was broke and didn't make a lot of money. I gave Chris the last $500 I had in my pocket as a retainer and he agreed to make a monthly payment plan with me as it was all I could afford. We decided on a cap of $5000 for the case with $500 monthly payments. The case became more complicated as the tenants had counter sued me for a wrongful eviction and served me discoveries. These tenants also decided to sue my brother because he was present while I served them eviction paperwork. Chris also fought my brother's side of the case as it was ridiculous that my brother was even being sued at all. Chris Ridgeway knew it was a frivolous case the other party was counter suing me for, it could get messy, be a lot of work and the tenants already had 3 or 4 prior evictions on their public records! Fast forward almost 1 year later of Chris Ridgeway working hard on my case and the tenants countersuing me are now dropping the case as their attorneys were ditching them as they knew they couldn't win a frivolous case. I'm sure they made a grave mistake encountering my old tenants who stopped paying their rent. Chris Ridgeway helped me in my time of need, he genuinely wanted to help me as a person, he understood my situation, and didn't look at me or treat me like a piggy bank. He is like the Robin Hood in the lawyer world. Not only is he an amazing attorney but proved to be a great man who I hold the upmost respect for. He saved my life. It is heartbreaking and explains a lot in terms of how we were treated, Lendans "just keep the meter going" billing, needless and over the top expensive strategic practices, costly recommendations, hostile behaviors and our terrible experience with Webb Law. We started in January just after his jury verdict against him. He spent 2 months and charged us for working on the wrong road! This was a resolved issue we had explained to him day 1 in January. Still they thought we had a great case and wanted to LITIGATE! We had to stop them in a March meeting and explain it to him again, huge waste of our time and money. They never answered our day 1 question "Can they do this"? He wanted to litigate until opposing counsel educated him. Then he proposed a $10K+ a day arbitration, we declined. Now we were at the end and told him so but he came up with some BS offer he had from the opposition to help with paying for the new driveway. That offer did not exist it and we never got it, just kept the meter going for another couple months. When he could not deliver the offer he came up with a 2 year delay strategy, he wanted to get paid 2 more years!! We said no then he blamed us for not providing information. He said if you can show you gave that to us I will wipe out your entire bill. He had that info the next am. Easement and prior expenses we had given them 1st week in January in our document upload and easily proved!. He had it all!! Still waiting for our check. He was condescending to me and my husband even questioning my husbands manhood. WTH! Read Witte vs Webb and learn. He says we did not pay, another lie we were demonstrably current 6 months in and were asking for the ficticious offer we never got. Then came the 2 year plan when we said no he fired us!! I had a consultation with him, however I was assigned to a firm team led by two lawyers who were thorough, but I found the team approach too expensive for me as their "thoroughness" resulted in an approximately $6K Demand Letter which did not move the needle. I contested several charges and Mr. Carlson was gracious to acknowledge them. I hired another "economy of task" lawyer who scaled her Demand Letter concisely and at far less cost while providing me with 6 months of representation for the same amount I paid LS Carlson for barely 3 months. I represented myself in my ADR and as there was no resolution, I circled back to LS Carlson for another consultation re suing my HOA. I did not receive a response. My second lawyer, however, responded and said she would not only provide me with another consultation, but also represent me in court should I chose to do so.
