I had to have foot surgery with very little notice - a week before Christmas 2012 when everyone was trying to squeeze in at the end of the year for insurance and tax purposes. I had a previous surgery and the metal plate that was inserted to hold my broken bone together had to come out immediately because it held infection that went into the bone. For the first time ... I turned to Yelp to find a doc, and Dr. Chris has amazing reviews here. I called him and he picked up the phone; what a shock that was. He came to my house (!!!) two days later, but the surgery center he uses was booked ... however they had a last minute cancellation and Dr. Chris made sure I got that time on 12/28/12. He is well qualified but is completely uninvested into the patient's (mine) health. Was very unresponsive and did not respond back my follow up calls and emails. His visit felt more like he was just counting the time until he can charge me and leave to a next patient. Dr. Segler looked at my badly sprained, and still swollen, ankle a week after I had been to acute care at UCSF, (where x-rays showed no broken bones, so they told me to stay off of it, gave me an ace bandage and sent me hobbling away). I don't really do yelp reviews but I needed to say some good things about Dr. Segler. First off, I'm a rock climber and as you know if you are too I have foot torture issues. Every doctor I have spoken with had no idea what my problems were nor how to help me with them. Dr. Segler is a climber and all around active outdoorsy person. He was aware of my struggles before I finished my sentence AND had experience with solutions! What a relief, getting a doc that knew what I needed. I unfortunately ruptured (snapped) my Achilles tendon while snowboarding this winter. At first I was hoping it wasn't that bad, but after doing a little web search soon realized it was either a partial or full rupture and needed some medical attention stat. I called Dr. Segler and explained what had happened and explained I thought I had some sort of rupture. I wound up making an appointment. What was cool was that he had me go to a local place to get a MRI before my appointment with him, as he would need the MRI to diagnose the condition properly. Cool because it saved me time and an unnecessary initial appointment & $ as I was confident I had some sort of serious rupture. It turned out it was a full rupture and I was in surgery in two days (quick is crucial for this surgery if possible). Surgery went well and I am well on my way to getting my mojo back. I've got nothing but good things to say about my experience with Dr. S. and think he's an athlete's ace. Trying to not make this too long I'll surmise and just say he is knowledgeable, informative (drawings and all), professional, progressive, a good listener, an excellent surgeon, and he makes house calls! I have never before had the opportunity to discuss an ailment for 1.5 hours with a medical doctor. After that amount of time and intellectual effort, I feel confident that I understand the nature and extent of my injury, and what I need to do to resolve it. 3) His house call business model is also unique, and can simplify the logistics of finding a suitable appointment time and location. Thank you so very much Dr Segler!!! You are the best!! My 4 year son has extreme flat feet. He has complained on and off of foot and leg pain for about a year. Repeated trips to Kaiser left us with, "it's growing pains" and that he would grow out of it, "no need to do anything" Basically little answers. Continued pressure by us finally resulted in some x-rays and some attention. Long and short of it, we sought attention and opinions else where. Thankfully we found Dr. Segler. An amazing house visit that lasted about 2 hours. He is a professional through and through. He took the time to examine our son. He drew pictures and had models to help explain his findings. He provided options and weighed the pros and cons of everything he presented. He was patient, caring and an obvious expert in his field. We ordered a pair of custom fit orthotics. After only a week turn around for the orthotics, he made another house visit for the final fitting. What a drastic improvement these have made in my son's life already. Monday was the first full day wearing the orthotics. The morning was spent at preschool where he said he showed some of his friends the colorful orthotics. He then came home with his mom and took the dog for a walk. They walked for just a little over a 1/2 mile; he never complained or stopped. Before he would complain of leg pain after walking about 2 blocks. Even after the walk he wanted to go outside and play kick ball. He then rode his bike. He was active on his feet all day with out being cranky and with out complaining of foot or leg pain. He himself says he loves them. We can't thank you enough, we are so glad we found you. I echo the strong endorsements of the other reviewers. I have had chronic but intermittent pain on the tops of my feet (one foot in particular) for about two years. This flared up more a few months ago when I was training on steep terrain for a strenuous multiday hike. I saw a podiatrist about this twice - he didn't give me any useful info, wanted me to have an MRI done at his firm's facility 25 miles from here, and mentioned possible surgery before I even took my socks off! I didn't want to go down that path so didn't have an MRI done and was wringing my hands about what to do. As I procrastinated, the incidents of pain were coming more frequently and at those times the pain was more pronounced. I contacted Doc on the Run on the recommendation of a top-notch sports manual therapist and was very pleased with the resulting service. Dr. Segler got back to me right away and accommodated my schedule. He is professional, knowledgeable, and warm and inspired my trust. He spent about an hour and a half at my home -- listened to my history, reviewed an X-ray taken a few months ago, examined my foot, drew diagrams of the feet for me, gave me some materials relevant to my issues, gave me a diagnosis, and told me lots of things to do and avoid doing to help my foot heal. Dr. Segler is hands down the best DOCTOR I've had. Here's a quick list of reasons why he's awesome: 1) He does house calls. As in, he drives in the much-congested Bay Area traffic for hours TO YOUR PLACE. 2) He spent HOURS explaining to me how my foot works. I'm pretty sure with the traffic and hours of explanation, he probably made 1/4 of what his license/experience would command. My wife got so worried that he'd spend another hour explaining (because I was asking) that she ended up saying she was hungry. 3) He charges a simple, flat, low fee (that is, before the "insurance discount") that isn't even close to the $1000/hr BS that the hospital charges. Oh, and he does take insurance, although you have to do a little more work there yourself (i.e. file the claim). 4) He tries to save you money. Instead of saying I need custom orthotics, he pulled out his scissors and fashioned one out of used soles on the spot. Of course, he didn't charge a penny extra. 5) To top it off, he's SUPER nice. He responds to e-mails promptly (as long as he isn't in another long-ass session like mine), and will ask how you're doing weeks after his visit. Dr Segler took care of the planar wart on my foot and it was a quick, painless, easy experience.

It wasn't until my late forties that I started regular running. I was an avid equestrian for decades and frequented the gym for years, but running was new to me. Just around my 50th birthday, I was ready to run my first half marathon, when I developed an Achilles tendonitis. I ignored it and kept running. A month and a half before the race, I finally had to abandon training altogether and see a doctor. I chose Dr. Segler because I read on his website that he would not tell his patients to stop running and take up Scrabble instead. The fact that he himself is a very serious runner and triathlete was a definite plus in my mind. I was extremely impressed when he himself answered the phone and came to my house within days. He took his time explaining my condition, drew pictures, answered all my questions without any rush. When it came to choosing the best treatment for my Achilles tendon, he described all possible options, honestly listed pros and cons, and never tried to influence or pressure me in any direction. After my PRP injection, which he also performed at my home a couple weeks later, he meticulously followed up with numerous visits and phone calls. Now, two years later, I met him again for a fitting of my second pair of custom orthotics for running, and he remembered everything about me down to the last detail, as if we had just seen each other yesterday. Dr. Segler is passionate about his field of medicine and seems to keep up with the latest developments in treatment and prevention. I torn a couple of ligaments in my ankle and after 2 weeks it wasn't getting any better plus my calf started to hurt. I decided to call Dr. Segler because he makes house calls, which was ideal for me since I was working from home. After a thorough exam of my foot and explain all the issues with a picture diagram, which I loved. After explaining to him about the pain in my leg he provide me a couple of possibilities and options. We decided on getting an Ultrasound, which he called around to find a place and schedule an appointment for me. After making an appointment he drove me to Daly City. Turns out I had a blood clot in my calf, thankfully, Dr. Segler stayed to see the results and drove me to another specialist in the city to be exam. What I thought was going to be a simple dr. appointment turn into a 5 hour adventure and I am glad that Dr. Segler was there to help me out. I would highly recommend him to all of my friends. Dr. Segler is very knowledgeable and detail-oriented in his field of podiatry. He was very thorough in his laser toenail treatment process. He explained everything well to both my husband and I. His rates are reasonable and the treatment was pretty simple. Since we weren't used to a laser treatment, we didn't know what to expect. A few times, the laser treatment stung, but that means we knew the treatment was working because it was getting rid of the bacteria on our toenails. So, I'm glad Dr. Segler was able to perform the laser toenail treatment for both my husband and I. We definitely recommend Dr. Segler for any foot ailments, especially for toenail fungus. Dr. Segler was recommended by our pediatrician and worked really well with our teenage daughter, who had a broken toe and ligament problems. He ordered xrays before we saw him, telling us where to go. At the house call, he explained in detail, using models and drawings, what the trouble was. He spent more than an hour with us, showing our daughter how to tape her toes and explaining about hot and cold baths and strategies for treating pain. He was very concerned about ensuring that she understood the steps she needed to get better. We later ordered custom orthotics from Dr. Segler and he was extremely detail-oriented in getting them measured just right and spent another hour with us when he returned with the orthotics, checking our daughter's progress. read more

Wow, very impressed with my experience with Dr. Segler. I think it was probably the best experience I've ever had with any doctor. I'm not a big Yelp reviewer, but I felt compelled this time. I've had a nagging toenail problem, and called on Dr. Segler (yes, found him via Yelp). Very responsive on setting up an appointment, and wow, the appointment itself was great. He did a house call (try to find another doctor that does that!) and was so informative, professional, and solved my problem quickly, in my living room. He over-explained everything (I mean that in a good way) and answered all of my annoying questions. I can't say enough good things about him. The only bad thing is that I now have huge expectations for all other doctors I see!
