Seaside Vacations - Chincoteague wildlife Refuge

    Seaside Vacations

    (19 reviews)

I rented a condo in Ocean City, Md through Seaside Vacations and Sales ($1800 for 4 nights) in…read moreJune. The ac didn't work. Waited 2 hours for service person. The filth on the back side of a/c closet prompted the service person to call down for a shop vac. Along with the cracked cooktop burner, stained ceiling tiles in bathroom, broken glass on the patio, peeled paint on door among other things. Did I mention the mouse? I emailed one of the owners - crickets. So I emailed the office. No response. So then I called. they offered me $150 off one night of a future rental. I asked if the things had been fixed. Their response - I am sorry, I know you stayed in June. We plan on having things fixed, that can't be fixed now, in the winter. Thank you for your concern. You're kidding, right? Never again

Followup to address the clearly delusional accusations on the part of the owner:…read more Elaine, I suggest that you seek professional help, because your grasp on reality is tenuous, at best. First, I NEVER even SUGGESTED that I wanted a "free vacation", let alone "directly threatened". I asked for a partial refund , due to the unsafe and unacceptable condition of the rental, the HOURS wasted re-packing, driving, and unpacking. The second property rents for less than the first when compared on your own website. I can't fabricate that, it is the reality of your pricing structure. I am happy to provide screenshots of our limited conversations. In fact, I never responded to you, Elaine, as I had by then seen your outlandish responses to other victims of your company and recognized that you are not interested in rational solutions, but only attempting to bully anyone who calls you to account for your nonsense. You are simply lying. Second? Go ahead and look at my Yelp history. I generally give four or five stars to boost businesses which have worked hard to earn glowing reviews. I used to manage a European-owned boutique hotel in a resort town, so PLEASE believe that I understand how seriously reviews can impact guests' decisions. I don't enjoy giving low reviews in the slightest, but I am HAPPY to do so when uncaring scumbags try to make a quick buck by slinging an inferior product. Another lie from you. "A leak began hours after my arrival"? PLEASE. There is NO WAY that that level of damage began anywhere NEAR my arrival. Not to mention that unless you are unfamiliar with the science behind the flow of time, a leak beginning AFTER my arrival could not have caused damage BEFORE we arrived. Another lie from you. The linens being "squeaky clean"? False. I provided the photographic proof. Also, there are references in your reviews to you and "Lance" having a cleaning service, so it's not a big leap to assume that you can manufacture whatever documentation that you would like. Your laughable documentation doesn't supersede my eyewitness account. You could take honest feedback and experiences as an opportunity to examine your operation and improve, but instead, you get defensive and attack those whom you have wronged. Suggesting that I "could have" and "probably did" bring in a bug from outside? How desperate ARE you to avoid taking any responsibility? You are frankly despicable and should be ashamed of yourself. Nobody is blackmailing you. I stated an accurate account of your property. I'm sorry that the honest portrayal is at odds with the fictional accounts on your page, but you cannot bully me into silence. You are a liar and a cheat, with no concept of decency. I shared my experience as a warning to others who may consider renting your unkempt hovel. The second property was a definite downgrade. Your team was very kind. I will grant you that fact. They cannot help it that they work for a psychopath. Now, I challenge you to produce a shred of evidence that I "directly threatened" you with a bad review, and I further challenge you to substantiate your claim that we were ever offered a refund of any sort, because that categorically did not happen. I would have gladly accepted that, as my brother lives an hour from Chincoteague and offered to let us stay there if your company could not make the situation right. I wish that you actually HAD offered that, as I would have gladly accepted. Again, you lie. Shame on you, Elaine. You are a liar and a cheat.

Our communications with Sherry and staff before arrival were responsive and helpful. The home is simply stunning on the inside and perfect for 2 couples. What put a negative ending on our lovely stay was the attitude of Island Getaways toward personal items left behind. "Throw it away" is their attitude and policy. It is evidently too much hassle for a customer service vacation rental company to facilitate the return of accidentally forgotten belongings to renters - AFTER they have vacated the property. I can't help they cynicism in my thoughts... they have our money, we've left the property spotless, except for our forgotten personal items, and they cannot find the time or generosity to make a phone call to discuss a return using the credit card information they already have. I told them I would pay extra for the box, padding and their time arranging it. My items included about 6 personal 4-8 oz jars of nuts & seeds (collectible glass canning jars) NOT fresh store bought food, and an unopened 32 oz cannister of high quality protein powder. I don't know anyone personally who would intentionally leave personal items behind. I believe that's why it's termed "accidental." I believe people are capable of knowing the difference between store bought fresh food and personal collectible jars filled with pantry items. I believe people realize an unopened cannister of protein powder is fairly expensive. I believe most people are good and kind and generous when given an opportunity to be helpful to others. It turns out even in the off season - when Island Getaways office staff is obviously not as busy as during peak season - it is way too much hassle to carry customer service to the customer AFTER they are no longer on site.

We stayed at Ocean(W) Grove Beach House in Chincoteague Island last year and I will copy and paste…read morewhat I emailed the property. "We were disappointed with the overall cleanliness of the house. A few concerns while settling in: -There are ants all over the kitchen area. -There is also no trash can in the small bathroom downstairs. - barely any hand soap in either bathroom. Thankfully we brought a large bottle of hand soap with us and refilled one of the bottles that was really low. -I also don't see any extra paper towels or kitchen towels or hand towels anywhere in the house. " Their response: "Thank you for taking time to reach out to us about your stay. Despite all of our houses being on a pest control plan, the ants are always a troublesome part of the Chincoteague experience. We recommend that you put all of your food away and do not leave it sitting out. They will be very noticeable otherwise. There is nothing we can really do about the ants. We do keep ant traps here at the office. Please let us know if you would like to stop in and get some. The hand soap is not something we provide with our rentals. If there are soap bottles, they were let from previous guests. We also only provide a starter roll of paper towels and a starter roll of toilet paper in each bathroom. Anything beyond that guests would need to bring. If you need any hand towels just let us know. We can put some out for you." The back deck was a mess and unusable. We ended up buying powder to kill the ants and zip lock bags to keep all our food, hand towels and toilet paper, and even with that the ants were EVERYWHERE. When we checked out we got a call asking what the powder was all over the kitchen and I told them, it was ant deterrent and they did not press the issue. I even left the container under the sink since they clearly needed it. I don't know about everyone else but if you pay over $1k to stay in a vacation home for 1 week, you shouldn't be expected to bring toilet paper, paper towels, zip loc bags to keep ants out, hand towels, hand soap, etc. We have rented through Airbnb before in Pennsylvania and did not have to bring any of those items. We have stayed in the area several times at the Best Western and it's always been a pleasurable experience, but I am finding that renting a home is an entirely different thing in that area. It looks like we won't be going back to Chincoteague this year, as most of the homes are not rented by individuals and all the companies I have looked at have poor reviews. So if you want to go, plan really early to find the best places to stay!

There was supposed to be a fenced in yard for our dog but it was only partially fenced and the the grass hadn't been cut in awhile not to mention the bugs were horrible. The TVs did not work and the remotes were sticky. I do believe that they needed new batteries. The sofa in livingroom you sat down to the floor. No curtains and the few shades there would not pull down. When I called harbour rentals about how to get the TV to work they said well they couldn't come till the next day. No offer to move us to another house. We packed up and left. I did call them the next day to complain about the property. They said oh you should have called us. I did . I told them. I only received half of my money back minus the taxes there. Very disapointing. I had rented with them several times. They need to upgrade the pictures online and make sure the owner replaces things like a crappy sofa you can't sit on. Don't advertise you have something when it's not true. Sad to say we will no longer be working with Harbour rentals again.
