We saw many kinds of wildlife on our dive and it was highly recommended. In between the two dives they gave us aa tasty snack of fresh coconut, pastries from a local bakery and warm tea. He is a wonderfully knowledgeable, professional dive master and easy going fellow who has a love of the reef ecosystem and an encyclopedic knowledge of the various creatures found there. Our friends were diving for a week, but they took us along on a few snorkel excursions, plus a longer boat tour of the area. Our friends could vouch for the diving...but you don't have to be a diver to enjoy a day with Luis. I really appreciated the ability to go beyond shore snorkeling and heading out to the reef...really only possible by boat. Luis knows all of the sweet spots, he has great stories, and he treats the natural resources with a reverence that I found to be very admirable. Quite simply, you won't be disappointed and I highly recommend with 5+ stars.

A CENOTE is a deep and usually large pool of water connected directly to subterranean rivers or…read moregroundwater. Usually they form when the bedrock collapses (like a sinkhole). This particular cenote is absolutely beautiful, huge and one of the deepest. It is 90 meters deep at the edge, and 150 meters deep at the center. The water is crystal clear and is renewed constantly by underground rivers. There are steps leading to the edge, and you are welcome to dive in. A rope with floats is extended out for you to hang onto if you need it. When you arrive, their is free parking, but not an actual parking lot. Just spaces along side the drive way. You pay a small fee to enter, and you receive a bracelet which allows you to leave and return at your convenience at no extra charge. As you walk through the entrance, there is a stairway to the right which leads you to a great place to view the beauty of the cenote. Or you may continue down to the water. There are some vendors selling float vests, souvenirs and other various things. The atmosphere is relaxing and peaceful, though there is some background music playing. An open air but shaded restaurant is located at the water's edge. You are welcome to find a table in the shade or sun, swim a while, eat, just chill out, etc. Bathrooms are available. The natural beauty is incredible. People come from all over the world to jump in. I encourage you to be one of them.

Booked a trip to Chacchoben through Toucan Tours via GetYourGuide. A great tour overall!…read more Directions to the driver at the Costa Maya cruise port were very clear. We were offered a beverage after the very short trip from the port to the office. At that point, we waited about 20 to 30 minutes to begin our tour. It wasn't bad and it wasn't overly hot, so it was manageable. Once we got into the vehicle, our driver, Raul, did a fabulous job of driving safely, but with urgency. I have been on tours before where I felt like I was going to lose my life in transit, and this was not one of them. We stopped in the "pineapple town" on the way to the ruins. Once we got to the ruins, Eliseo was our guide. He was super talkative, but he provided a lot of great information and overall, a great experience. After we left the ruins, we were given the option to stop at the beach in Mahahual. Having read many of the negative reviews online saying that it wasn't worth it, we opted out. Raul returned us to the office, where we were transported to the port, without even having to get out of the vehicle, in less than five minutes. When we arrived to the port, our second driver, who was not Raul, did a great job of letting us know how to get through the port quickly or where to go to shop before we returned to the ship. Overall, I'd highly recommend. We had zero issues.

Although it's about 3 miles round trip from disembarking to the tour operator and back, the rest of the experience is relaxing. We took the Bacalar lagoon of the seven blues tour. Our fourth time there. It's my favorite spot in Mexico. The trip is over an hour there and back. We took a pontoon boat tour of the lagoon and we're served pineapple on a life preserver in the lagoon loaded with Tajin. The tour guide was from Brazil and lives in Bacalr and the driver was local. After the boat ride we ate tacos and fajitas with drinks at the tours restaurant. To get to the tour operator wind your way through the port and take a shortcut through the Gelato shop and head out to the first check point, then walk in the median past the second check point. If you are not greeted by a guide with a board with your name, it's only another block on the right hand side of the traffic circle. They have restrooms, shade and chairs with drinks until everyone arrives. We used Viator to book. Great company.
