After seeing three different PCPs at this clinic, I can no longer view my experience as an isolated incident. The physician care has been consistently disappointing. The doctors I saw came across as dismissive, rushed, and condescending. Instead of feeling heard, I often felt like my concerns were being minimized or brushed aside. Questions were not fully answered, and discussions about my health frequently lacked the detail and explanation that patients deserve. I sought care because I had legitimate health concerns and abnormal findings that warranted follow-up and discussion. Rather than receiving thoughtful guidance, I often left appointments feeling more confused than when I arrived. In some cases, information documented in visit notes did not reflect the depth of discussion that actually took place during the appointment. What makes this especially frustrating is that the nurse practitioners and APRNs have been excellent. They took time to listen, explain why testing or follow-up was needed, and treated me with respect. My experience with the emergency department was also positive, professional, and compassionate. This review is not directed at the nursing staff, APRNs, or emergency department. They have consistently provided better communication and patient-centered care than any of the physicians I encountered. After three different PCPs and the same experience each time, I have lost confidence in the physician care provided by this clinic. Patients should not have to feel talked down to in order to receive answers about their own health. read more

Mixed feelings on emergency room. Some doctors excellent others horrible same goes for nurses. Some don't see the care and passion. Others are smart *** . Having said that doctors like Chang, Watanabe, few others really care and nurse Lei is absolutely amazing. Some of the male nurses need training on basic human communication and decency. read more

Highly recommend. Most of my doctors are at the Kapolei or Pali Momi location and are highly recommended. Physicians are knowledgeable and facilities are clean. You do however need to ask questions if you need additional information or care. read more

Great care... Straub Health is a great spot to get the care that you need, as it all for mom and she's been referred here countless times for many many things and on this visit was to see a neurologist. When you need a specialist it was nice though a lengthy process the staff here was just amazing getting information along with providing the necessary steps to ensure she's taken great care of. Enlish is her second language though I say she's quite fluent but when it comes to medical terminology I think we all need help in those situation and with her they provided a translator which I was quite impressed and worked out perfect as they had a ton of questions that she had to answer and with that it all worked out comfortably. They don't validate parking here so coming early could cost you in many ways but they do have lovely lounge area for folks that may need their space and time as they wait for their services. I was in and out of Straub on King Street Nov 2024 to 5/ 2025 for chemotherapy. the oncology nurses are fantastic, not sure I expressed this to them. I now see Dr. Rodger's regularly as an outpatient. He is wonderful. Calming, knowledgeable, always willing to help with anything. I needed a doctor's note for work, wanted Handivan recommendation, done! Always explains fully of any options and treats my family well as they come with me. I look forward to his visits. All staff have been great, admissions are quick, all oncology and hematologist staff patient and caring. The food is good too and the staff in the kitchen are accommodating as well like when I asked for less garnish on my saimin, no problem. It sucks being in a hospital but at least it was a great experience. read more

I only have wonderful things to say about this location. I called ten digit phone number from my EKG referral form and inquired if I have to wait for staff to call and schedule an EKG or what is their procedure? Worker on the phone assured and informed me that they now accept walk ins with EKG referral forms during business hours. I thanked and informed staff that I will be there today. My PCP electronically sent an EKG referral to them and hand delivered one to me. Front desk staff outside are very helpful and will give an Outpatient Services sticker to place on your clothing once they determine where you'll have to go. Staff depending on which department will ask thorough questions to guide you to the respective services. There were a few outpatients before my turn. Check in, registration, and EKG procedure was thorough and efficient. read more

I think staff are getting kick backs from care facilities, do to the fact that they strongly force/perused/overly suggest nursing home/rehab facilities, instead of finishing complete care at Hospital that IS NOT FULL & HAS PLENTY BEDS Avaialble*149 beds are listed on occupancy*. OR Either they dont want to care for lack of ins patients and pass them off on care facilities AS A PRACTICE TO NOT FINISH OR COMPLETE CARE**Straub gave a lack of medical care ot/pt and didn't diagnosis my frnd lung condition* They tried to discharge the patient TWICE without a diagnosis, though staying a MONTH+, till it was demanded*Then Dr sd "Oh, maybe we should do that* DAH*!* The Total Lack of Care was a Part of the Treatment that lead to them to CONSTANTLY & repeatedly trying to talk the patient into a nursing home and falsely calling it rehab, but in Hawaii most rehab facilities ARE Nursing Homes, who's goal is to NOT let you Leave once You're in there & get no rehab or care at all* No support for home care was given By DR/STAFF/CASE MGR?CHARGE RN OR Anyone in the Hospital! I saw and over heard others being forced into nursing care told family as if it's the only choice, or take advantage of their unwillingness to want to care for a loved one* BUT MY FRND HAD SOMEONE THAT CARED ENOUGH TO ADVOCATE FOR HOME CARE AND LIFE*Now Doing GREAT at home with the care of a loved one, Now using lower oxy rate* without EVER BEEN GIVEN A PULMOLOGIST REFERRAL FOR A LUNG CONDITION. Took my wife for ER after a fall during her running routine. She had suffered an anaphylaxis due to rubbing alcohol. Crew was super efficient , run some tests , gave her medication and after few minutes she was recovered , with some bruises due to the fall treated. Great Doctors and Nurses. Straub can be a little hit and miss. Been coming here for years even as a child. Some years ago due to my employer I had to switch to Kaiser for a few years. (Which I really miss) Kaiser was awesome to say the least. Here's the breakdown at Straub per my experience being a patient there. Optometry 5 ***** eye exam/new glasses - easy Gastroenterology 5 ***** awesome doctors in this dept. Dermatology 3 1/2 *** Depends on who your doctor is. Don't go with a N.P. Lab 4 **** Cardiology 0 * Ego driven doctors in this dept. HIGHLY recommend Queens for any heart issues. Or if you're already at Kaiser . E.N.T. 3 *** Overnight stay 4 **** good care Urology 4 **** Radiology 4 **** Emergency 4 **** Pharmacy 5 ***** Always outstanding service! Spent 4 weeks here, and all the staff were caring, professional, and made a very difficult circumstance much less daunting. It's a smaller facility than Queen's, but I felt the service was much faster, very personalized, and less of a production line. read more

I'm writing this as I'm laying in my hospital bed, yeah that's right. I've been in Straub Hospital for one and a half weeks and probably won't be getting out any time soon. These Doctors, Nurses and staff don't miss a trick. I won't go anywhere else for treatment. As of this time, my doctor has literally saved my life three times. You can't go wrong coming here when you need help. From their valet service, in house food, cleanliness, hospital aides, Technicians, Nurses and of course the Doctors. Whatever you need, you'll be well taken care of at Straub Hospital. I wouldn't even think of going anywhere else. read more

7 December 2020 Straub everywhere! Today's visit was two fold: get xrays (2nd Floor) and see Dr. Yamazaki (Bone & Joint Center-Sports Med, 3rd Floor). First of all, the hospital offers valet parking! I don't remember any other state I lived where valet parking is offered at the hospital!! Maybe I'm on the "late train" but I'm mindblown, to say the least. There is a public parking garage, though so if you don't want to pay valet prices, that is available. The parking garage is super tight so you have to drive slowly and carefully. The elevator only serves as a means to go up/down within the parking garage, it does not have access to the hospital/medical offices and the garage floors do not correspond with the office floors. You still have to go to the main lobby to access the building. At the front, there is an employee asking covid questions and handing out patient and visitor stickers that you have to place visibly on your outter garment. You also have to check your temperature, wear a mask, and sanitize. XRAY - check in was efficient and the overall process was seamless and easy. We were in and out in approximately 15 minutes. SPORTS MED - After check in, the medical assistant, Shawnna took us back to the exam room and did the administrative processes. She was courteous and gentle. Once she was done, Dr. Yamazaki came in shortly afterwards. He asked a few questions,  and before proceeding with the exam, he asked permission before touching my mother. He examined her shoulder and based on his expertise and the xray she took earlier, gave his diagnosis. His explanation was simple and easy to understand. He spoke to us with such professionalism but was never gave us the  impression that he was better than us (you know, like some doctors that like to flex their medical degrees?). He discussed the causes and also gave treatment options that were optimist. I am glad my mother was assigned to him for care. We will be back to see him soon. read more

Pros: 1. Wait time to see a doctor in the ER is usually not to long, depending on how crowded it is. 2. Most of the nurses in the hospital are nice. 3. The doctors we've seen seem knowledgeable and all but one compassionate. Cons: 1. During a family member's recent hospitalization, on day 4 a new nurse asked him, when was the last time your bandage was changed? Turns out none of the 4+ previous nurses had done so in 4 days!!!??!! Thankfully his surgical wound did not get infected! This alone is a 0 star rating. 2. The hot cafeteria food is not very healthy, seemed oily, salty, and institutional. I don't recommend eating there near closing, which I did one night and had mashed potatoes that tasted sour. Horrible. Another 1 star. 3. While hospitalized, my family member got placed in the COVID ward even though he didn't have COVID! Another 1 star. 4. In-patient services besides a tv are lacking/non-existent. read more

I recently was admitted to Straub and needed to stay in the hospital for 10 days. There are so many bright spots I've experienced, despite being in a tough situation. The ECMO team is unbelievable. Dr. Kim was fantastic. While in the ICU, the brightest spot was Nurse Cindy. You cannot teach the amount of warmth, kindness, and competence she has. The CNA's like Sonny, Maddie, Dean, Alex, and Arlene were also fantastic. I am forever grateful. read more

This morning I gave in and finally went to the ER for something I have been dealing with for over 2 months. Needless to say my first thoughts be prepared for 3+ hour visit but I was surprised on how effective and efficient the ER staff is. I never go to emergency rooms but last night at about 830 I broke a bone in my hand so I went to the emergency room that I knew because of her name recognition I had to wait 15 minutes to check in sat there for an hour and a half after checking in I was told someone would bring me an ice pack for my hand when I checked in there was multiple chairs next to me that was open and no one came out of the four examining room doors so while in pain I've made a decision to go to Straub E.R., wish I went there to begin with parked in front checked in with receptionist very pleasant experience they let me leave my car in the emergency drop off area, my blood pressure heart rate completed by the nurse all within five minutes, Doctor came out less a minute after explained what the steps would be got my x-ray done got an image of my x-ray emergency room tech, young gentleman showed exemplary, professionalism, poise, and bedside manner throughout my visit this young man took meticulous care of me measuring sizing my splint, and he will make a top shelf physician in the future, wherever he decides to practice! Overall - this is simply our go to facility. Amazing ER! If you need emergency services, this is the place to go to. In January, my gf got diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer that spread to her liver. Since then there's been numerous times we needed ER care & her go to is Straub HNL. We even moved to Makakilo & she would still want to go to this hospital above all the other options that may be nearby. The wait isn't very long and they're very thorough with their checks, making sure bloodwork and any necessary X-rays are taken then & there. The most recent ER trip resulted with finding out she had developed sepsis & fluid build up in her abdomen. After being admitted & 3 weeks in the hospital, I feel the staff has been so compassionate and attentive to her needs. I'd also love to praise the doctors - Dr. Victor Phuoc for being our trusted surgeon and performing two procedures during her stay & Dr. Takashi Shinha for closely monitoring her infection and providing the necessary medication needed. Thank you to the hospitalists as well who monitored her during her stay. Another special shout out to the nurses! We had such a long stay, we cycled through so many.. but we especially loved working with Jacquie, Travis, Ashley, Rovy, Elaine.. but overall, we are so appreciative of everyone's care. Also, thank you to the CNA's & staff who helped and seen her in moments where she was most vulnerable. Finally, thank you to our case manager Sarah, who was able to facilitate what's needed for discharge. Altho it was sudden & a bit rushed, I appreciate all the pieces being in place for her to transition home. After such a long stay, she was very much ready to be back at home. We acknowledge and very much appreciate everyone involved in healthcare. It's a complete team effort. I know it's a very stressful job working long shifts & having to overcome unexpected obstacles, but if there is any facility on the island we trust with our lives - it would be Straub HNL. I've had EXCELLENT care from my doctors here, namely Internist and Neurologist. In-office support staff has always been very friendly and approachable. I would like to suggest better training for the people who answer the main telephone line. Please answer with customer service and a caring attitude as you are the first impression to many. I called today and got a voice that was very curt and eager to transfer the call to the parking office who has yet to return my call after 2.5 hours. Please remember that the people who are calling are probably dealing with a medical condition and appreciate a kind voice on the other end of the line. Pretend that the people who are calling are your family and personal friends. I called a second time and did receive a pleasant voice on the second call. She sounded approachable, and I got my question answered without talking to the parking office. read more

Long story short. I had to visit the ER at Straub hospital tonight. The nurses & doctors were very Busy. Yet, from approx. 8-9 nurses & doctors that I encountered for my health issue, one stood out waay above the others. Her name is Stephanie, she understands the definition of the word Empathy. I want to start by saying that everyone I dealt with was extremely nice and professional. From the person who checked me in all the way through the MD, everyone seemed like they really cared. There were some weirdos there, some of whom HPD was escorting. The place was very well run and they got me in and out pretty quickly. To the RN who comforted me, much love to you. I was experienced a mental health emergency related to a disease that I thought I might have. I told them what I thought it might have been and they kinda brushed it off, saying they didn't do that kind of testing there (I have been told that this was false by others I've talked to). They insisted on doing a COVID test, even though I had taken 2 a few days prior, one of which was at a Straub urgent care (they're affiliated). The diagnosis they gave me said it was most likely not a certain disease. I went to my PCP soon after, she diagnosed and tested for the disease which turned out positive; this was the same disease that Straub had ruled out in the paperwork they gave me. Again, everyone was very compassionate and had great bedside manner. The ER MD offered to give me meds for the anxiety; I declined but the offer was sincere and very much appreciated. Parking was pretty easy. I've had good experiences with Straub urgent cares and will continue to use them. I'm praying I don't have to go back to the ER for a long time, but if I do I'll probably come back here. read more

Can I get a W - O - W..! The staff here has been so amazing during my latest "adventures" at their emergency room. Usually I prefer to go to urgent care Waikiki if a need requiring medical attention more than regular doctor office arises. Sometimes ya just don't have a choice, like when your insides feel like they just turned inside out. Melodramatic? Well maybe just a little. Just a minor observations: Checkin to emergency seemed to take foooorever; am sure they were just doing their job. Am sure ever thing seems like forever when one is writhing in pain. Still, this little thing is minor when compared to the expert care the staff provided. From my nurses Rojie, Kimy, Alyssa, Kim, Madelaine, Tara to Drs' Maldini, Newcomb, Sakamoto, and all other essential staff Stephanie, Fatina, Willie, Tasia...really too many to mention. I had an appointment here at 8:20 am. I tried to check in early but apparently the receptionist said I couldn't check in until 15 or 20 minutes prior to my appointment. Back on the mainland, if I check in early I was able to wait in the lobby until my appointment was close. All of the employees here must start at 8 am. I had to dock off a star for that but overall I had a good visit with the eye doctor. She was very thorough with my eye examination. The office had all equipment except that on the mainland, they just took a picture of my eyes and that was it. I have to come back in three months for a follow up. Parking is in the structure and there's no validation for parking. I paid three dollars for parking. Such a negative when you have to pay for parking. I would have given this place three stars but everyone in the office was very professional. I would definitely back here. read more

Very disappointed with PCP.I have been going to Straub Clinic since the 1950's. I have stayed loyal to this clinic and when I asked my PCP "what is my blood type" I got a response of we don't know. The blood test they have on file do not specify blood type. Something is really wrong here after taking so many blood tests and I did have to get a blood transfusion and they still don't know? What kind of service is this? I don't know what type of blood was used for the transfusion. Why is this such a hard question? Something is very wrong and very scary when they don't know your own patient's blood type. read more

At 2:30 am, ambulance came to my house to take a family member to Straub Medical Center ER. 2 male EMTs carried him in blanket to put him on gurney . EMT said that no passenger can ride in ambulance due to COVID. Family member and I took a taxi. ER staff checked him. It is waiting time for us because he was getting CAT scan. At 5:40 am, male doctor and nurse Millie released him. Mahalo to the er hospital staff for taking care of him during his visit. Later, we went to cafe, pharmacy and physicians building. Male employee at internal medicine said that you need to make appointment with doctor so doctor can assist him with getting a case manager. Norabelle of Elite Services assisted people in front of hospital by giving them white labels with words. Labels had outpatient written on it and other words. She was very helpful by referring Pony Taxi and helping my father in TheCab taxi suv cab. The Cab has contract with hospital. read more

Been transferred about a dozen times after being on hold for over an hour and I've been trying to call for the past 6 hours with no luck, just constant forwards after 10 minute intervals of elevator music. Was referred here by my doctor and will be asking for another referral somewhere else since they don't seem to want new patients so don't waste your time. read more

Recently went to Emergency Room and I was treated with kid gloves. The nurses were very attentive and concerned for my comfort. They made sure I was warm enough and if I needed anything, they would be in right away. I was there for fluids. The IV nurse did a good job of getting blood drawn and setting the IV up in my arm. I took my car to valet, which was to close in 30 minutes. I knew I wouldn't be out before they closed, and asked if I could still use the valet service. I was told I could prepay and they would park my truck in the front, where it would be easy for me to retrieve. They would return my keys to me. $5. Bam! I was out 3-1/2 hours later, and my truck was right there. Checking into Emergency Room was easy. I verified information and they tagged me. I waited no more than 10 minutes for someone to collect me. Truly the best ER I have been to, and I have been to several. read more

WARNING: this is long and probably TMI but whatever! This review is for the walk-in/urgent care clinic. I was told at the Ward clinic the wait would be 45 minutes there so I called here and the receptionist said that she couldn't promise anything but at the moment there was only one patient and two doctors. I was in a bit of pain so decided to come here instead. I wasn't aware the main hospital had a walk-in clinic, but the receptionist at Ward was very helpful in explaining where to find it, and that we should park in the main hospital garage. So FYI, the walk-in clinic is in the Strode Building to the right as you're looking at the entrance from King Street. My husband dropped me off at the patient dropoff area so that I could go to the clinic while he parked, and there were plentiful signs for the Strode Building. It's located just past the pharmacy, and you go through a walkway to get to it. The super helpful receptionist quickly took my info and immediately provided me with a cup for a urine sample. I provided it, and it took about 10-15 minutes before they called me back to see the doctor. Based on previous experience, I thought it was a kidney infection or kidney stone - but I wanted to rule out appendicitis because two of my sisters had to have surgery for it, one of them just a month ago. After hearing my symptoms, Dr. Susie Chun didn't think it was appendicitis and ordered an ultrasound to check my right kidney, where the pain was. We then went to radiology, which is in the main building, second floor. The receptionist and techs were also friendly and helpful there; btw it's super freezing in there, so they provide warm blankets in a metal heater at the back, against the wall. Note: you open the heater by pulling on the right side of the door, not the left. Watched a couple of people struggle to open it before realizing what side to open. Also, for an ultrasound, you must have a full bladder. Because I emptied mine to provide a sample at intake, I had to drink several cups and wait about 20 minutes before they could do the procedure. After the ultrasound, we went back to the clinic, where Dr. Chun said it showed slight inflammation to my kidney. She didn't want to have me go straight to a CT scan since it involves radiation, but with the ultrasound results she thought it best to confirm with a CT scan. So I went back to radiology, where they were just as nice the second time, and did the procedure quickly. Back at the clinic again, and Dr. Chun confirmed the kidney stone, showing me the imaging of one in my kidney (wasn't causing the pain) and one in my ureter (that was the culprit). It wasn't large enough to require surgery so she prescribed a medication to help me pass that sucker and I could go home. All in all it took about three hours, but the pain had eased and I was so relieved, I could be patient with all the tests. Everyone at both clinics were so helpful and friendly, from the receptionists to the nurses to Dr. Chun. It was a fairly slow Saturday so maybe that made for a better experience since no one was rushed dealing with a ton of patients, but I appreciated the warmth and care I received today. It made a very uncomfortable experience much easier to bear. read more

Since I knew that I was coming down with something, I wanted to make sure that I was checked out properly and got the medication I needed before I headed out to Japan. I decided to stop by the Urgent Care at Straub on King Street and although I usually go to the Pali Momi location, they were already closed and although they have other locations, I prefer this one because the people here at the town location, from what I remember, were super helpful and attentive. Luckily for me I was correct and when I got to go in to see the physician they gave me Dr. Price, which for me was a godsend, as this female doctor is one of the most awesome Physicians you will ever meet, and I mean AWESOME! Unfortunately she's in management now and she only sees patients every so often, but her bedside manner and caring attitude is second to none. She made sure that I fully understood what symptoms I had and what I need to do to get better, plus she advised on how to take the medicines so that it would have the maximum effect and so that I would fully understand the potential side effect as well. Especially since I will be traveling in the airplane for such a long distance and I will be in a place where the climate is a lot colder once I land. Straub has a pretty good patient services and I've been with them for years, however it is people like Dr. Price that would make me stay with Straub, evrn if everything else about them sucked. read more

It was always a complete waste of time and waiting for hours to even get checked for an "emergency" but this place really changes my experience and expectations. Doctor Lee William and the nurses were extremely friendly and helpful. The medication the doctor prescribed me were spot on and started to feel a difference after a week of struggling. Careful of this place. They cancel appointments without telling you. When you ask the supervisor why said she's not familiar with MyChart. Really?! My appointment was on mychart a couple of weeks ago. Where did it go? Someone cancelled it and it wasn't me. It's weird when you leave your last appointment with an appointment card of an appointment and somehow you find out that the appointment was cancelled by me before my last visit when I requested an earlier appointment. Well why did the receptionist and the md himself say I already had a follow-up appointment scheduled In four months (the original appt). Even despite that it's the staff's incompetence, they blame the patient instead and say the md (who's double-booked and covering for another provider on medical leave) who is doing me a favor by offering me appointments at times that don't work in my schedule. I purposely schedule my md appointments on the same day so I don't need to keep on taking vacation leave. So I had scheduled other md appointments purposely on the same day. I can't reschedule these appointment either as it is still with a specialist too. Then I get the guilt trip that I should make the appointment time they gave me because they are accommodating me on the day I was supposed to have my original appointment...their mistake. If I don't take the appointment there is no such thing as a wait-list because I am already being accommodated so my next appointment which was supposed to be next week is now pushed back another six weeks. Apparently my other doctors don't matter because they are doing me a favor by giving me an appointment. Some people need to learn proper etiquette and customer service skills, especially the so-called supervisor Tracy. Never do you blame the patient for a mistake made by your staff... read more
