I'm not sure why this place has 3 stars, because it's a killer find, especially for a small rural town. Let's start off with, it's not a chain! It's got a cool rustic vibe, and the type of service you would expect from a small town. People are friendly and polite, and the food is great. I've had lunches and dinners here, and everything that I've had has been great. I typically sit at the bar and the bartenders are always on point. They even have a lunch card that you can get Puntch to get free food. Definitely try this place. Don't let the reviews stop you. read more

My husband got a steak, he said it was overcooked but wasn't terrible. He said he didn't like the cowboy potatoes as the potatoes were too big with not enough flavor. I got southwest chicken and it was ok with the cheese being barely melted and the chicken kind of bland. Our waitress was very kind and attentive! We enjoyed our visit to Dodge City Steakhouse. The staff was friendly and accommodating to my grandmother in her wheelchair. I got the Deputy Marshall Steak Sizzler and it was delicious. I requested my steak cooked medium-rare and it was cooked medium or even medium-well. Luckily, I enjoy anything close to medium, so it didn't bother me at all, but I know someone else might have been bothered by it. This review is based on about 6 visits I have had at Dodge City. The steaks are ok. You can tell they are from frozen and the cook time are not even on both sides. There is no place in town to get a fresh steak so it's ok. Biggest complaint I have is the bugs. Of my several visits I always encounter a tiny ant or a Japanese stink bug. Today there was a stink bug on the salt shaker and an ant on my daughter's hand. They need to get a better bug guy because too many are slipping thru. read more

I received a call three days ago regarding an incident that happened on Mother's Day. I called to place a take out order at 7:30pm. And was told that take out orders had been shut down by the kitchen manager. As I was literally just down the street. I assumed it was perhaps due to being busy. So I drove there. It was nearly empty. A friend went inside to speak to a manager. And as she was speaking to the floors assistant manager. An unknown person approached the conversation and never introduced themself nor said a word. When me friend told the assistant that and I quote. When a jackass kitchen staff decides they are too busy to perform a service they advertise for. That it is bad business. It was at this point the silent person identified himself as the kitchen manager. And told my friend to leave and never return. Because he would never serve her again. Now. This past year the qualify of the food at the Elkin location has gone down. I have myself been forced to return burnt food more than once. Sometimes portions are not consistent. But I am at a loss for words on this one. Me and my friend would Normally visit twice a week. But now. I am concerned that even if I return alone. The kitchen manager may retaliate. Someone who made a decision to throw away business. And then get so personally hurt when a statement yes directed at the kitchen staff. But would never have been said had he introduced himself. Both my friend and myself have managed kitchens. And we both agree. Never in our 40 years in the field. Have we ever been allowed to close takeouts. It's one thing to close this service down at a specific time. But. All they needed to do was say takeout is running about 30 minutes behind. Something. For the record the wait staff have always been very pleasant. And the floor managers the same. So imagine my shock. When a kitchen manager. Turned out to be so confrontational at one point it appeared as though he was going to physically remove my friend. read more

Wow, the food, the employees, the selection, all amazing! I wish I knew the names of the two male hosts working this past Saturday night. They went above and beyond to help us. One member of our party needs to use a walker and the hosts went out of their way to retrieve the walker from us after we were seated to bring it to the front to store it by the host stand. They also held open both doors (inner and outer doors) and stood outside in the cold, rainy weather to hold the door for him. Plus our waitress was friendly, smiling, and efficient. Seriously great service. Pros: -rich, flavorful food -friendly, helpful employees (especially the hosts and our waitress Brandy F.) -fitting decor -ample seating and parking -they take reservations. It can get crowded so we called ahead to make a reservation for 3 people. We arrived a little bit early and our table was ready. -menu is easy to read and has a good number of options (healthy and not as healthy) -prices are reasonable and more affordable than similar steakhouses -complimentary bread with regular or cinnamon butter! Cons: -the coupon they offer online (free appetizer for completing the survey) is not quite active yet. They said they would honor the coupon during our next visit since it applies to their new menu. Throw back to the Bonanza and Ponderosa Steak House Chains of the 70's and early 80's A neighbor and I decided to drive up to Elkin for Sunday Lunch. Color is just starting with the trees and one of my favorite restaurants is Theo's but apparently it is the favorite of many others because the wait was almost an hour. Decided to go elsewhere and I suggested Dodge City Steakhouse even though I had not been there. A friend had mentioned they had been to the one in Wilkesboro and it was good and this is a sister location. Walked in and were seated promptly. Server was there with menu's and to take our beverage orders. If I have any major complaint about this restaurant, it is service is too good. Salads and appetizers come out on top of each other quickly followed by the entrée. Not enough time for separation. Ordered Mozzarella sticks with Marinara as an appetizer and they came out promptly. I was not expecting much from the Marinara but it was surprisingly good with a nice fresh tomato taste. For my entrée, I ordered the Apple Bacon Pork Tenderloin with a loaded Baked Potato as a side. The Pork Tenderloin was excellent. Nice, thick and juicy with plenty of flavor. Loaded Baked Potato was good but not the best I have had because loaded is basically just Cheese. No chives or other garnishments. Neighbor order the ribeye with a standard Baked Potato with Butter and Sour Cream and while I did not get a bite, looked good and they said it was very good. Portion sizes are very large so don't be surprised if you leave with a doggie bag although I doubt that your favorite Canine will ever see a bite of it. It's a throwback restaurant to the 70's or 80's. No problem with that because I loved them then and no reason not to love them now. This is closer to a Ponderosa style because it has the map of the Ponderosa from the show Bonanza in the Lobby that is signed by the cast of Bonanza. We've been coming to this restaurant since moving here 14 years ago and have had mostly good experiences. This last time will be our last. We arrived early (4pm) and ordered two of the lunch specials. I ordered the Cowboy steak with shrimp and a Caesar salad. Not long after ordering, our server informed me that they were out of romaine lettuce and would I like it made with iceberg lettuce instead. I agreed. When our meals came, the food was served warm at best. My NY strip steak was the worst quality I've ever had. I was only able to eat a third before calling the server over and showing her what I was dealing with. She took my plate and said she'd show the cook, and said she was going to comp my meal. When she arrived with our check, I noticed there was only a $7.00 credit. I didn't bother making an issue and paid our bill. Having ruined my dining experience, and showing a basic disregard for what happened, there is absolutely no excuse for being served food that is of such poor quality and on top of that, served lukewarm. This is supposed to be a steak house. As such, the quality of meat is of utmost importance. That said, it's abundantly clear that proper management is lacking and for that reason, we will no longer be coming here. read more

This place was a welcomed surprise. I come in after work for a late lunch/early dinner and have yet to be disappointed. My steaks have actually come out how I order them, which is "rare" to find at a lot of restaurants. The lunch specials are an insanely good deal, and you get a meal, not something that is going to leave you hungry. The service is friendly and casual, Annie is great. The last thing I had was the country fried steak. Best I've had in years. I took one to go with me and everything was packaged separately, so it didn't turn into mush. Keep on driving. Chili was barely room temperature. Cheese on top didn't melt, crackers were stale (probably old), water was town water with way too much chlorine added to the system and coffee was barely above room temperature. Hubby's fries had way too much salt, probably would outdo McDonalds fries. Burger was over cooked for medium order. They have a sign stating they need candidates for every position. There are really not that many restaurants around the area, but this is hands down the best! The atmosphere is... well... country, but more like western style and not like Cracker Barrel or anything like that. I should also mention that we ate here twice on our last trip of 4 days so that should say something. They serve delicious warm yeast rolls with cinnamon butter, soooo good! The first night I ordered blacked grilled chicken with a baked potato and salad, it was fresh and felt as wholesome as a home cooked meal. (Which is great when your on the road for a while). The second night we indulged Ana ordered the crispy onion, grilled ribeye steak with creamed spinach and another salad. The onion was better than outback, the steak was cooked perfectly and the creamed spinach was a cheesy treat. This restaurant offers great service, delicious food and a huge value for the price! My family is from Elkin and loves this place. We came here for Mother's Day and they wanted to come again for Father's Day. There were 6 of us. We ordered four chopped steak meals and two other plates for the others in the party. Positives: the service is fast. Appetizers came quick. Our waitress was helpful and supportive and patient. The salads and the cheese sticks and the onion were good. Negatives: the chopped steak for one person was ok. For the three others, it tasted as if there was gristle or lots of unchewable fat in the burger. None of the three of us were able to finish our meal. All three left at least half of the chopped steak on the plate. We called for the manager on duty. My mom is the most kind and sweetest people you'll ever meet and never complains but she agreed we should tell the manager due to how bad the chopped steak was. The manager listened to our concerns and said she would adjust the bill. While we didn't expect a full refund of the $10-12 plates, we expected more than what we got. When the waitress came back with the bill, the manager had reduced the three plates by $3 each. The manager told us that next time this happened to please let them know and they would make a replacement. But good customer service was not given here. It's not about "the next time". It's about this time. My parents love this place and I wish them all the best in future trips to this restaurant. But we will be finding another place for me to join them for special occasions. read more

We stopped here on the way home from camping in the mountains. Not bad food, but not the greatest. The service was amazing. The steak on the Philly was a bit bland, the sandwich was bland in general, but it was loaded up well. I would get something different if I were to go back. My daughter and her aunt went to this Dodge City around 8pm the night of September 2nd and my 11 year old left a ring her aunt had given her on the table. They called right back and the staff rudely said they never saw anything before even looking then when they asked for a name and number to call back *if* they found it, they hung up before my daughter could give it. So her aunt took her back to give the information and before she could give it, they dismissed my child and talked over her. I called today to speak to the manager and was hung up on, myself. When I tried to call back, they sent me to voicemail. Not sure what's going on up there but the few times we've been there, the food was sub-par and overpriced and now we have the employees who are fine taking a ring from a child and hanging up on people trying to talk to the manager. I was nice and pleasant when I called and they had no idea why I was calling but thought it was fine to hang up on me and ignore my calls regardless. Just ate at the one in Lenoir North Carolina. The service was terrible. The server wanted to chat with us instead of taking our order and completing it and also chatted about other fellow customers that were upsetting to her. The food was OK, however the ribs were definitely not moist and tender. The sweet potato with marshmallows had sweet potato with three full size marshmallows stuck on top and not melted at all or browned.
