I scream you scream we all scream for ice cream. After a long day at Indiana Dunes National Park (which I highly recommend you check out if you haven't been) I was craving some tasty local ice cream. This shop isn't too far and it is in a cute town that has lots of restaurants as well. Parking is easy and free and there is a decent sized green space you can hang out at. I believe they rotate the flavors here which is always nice because then there is always something new to try. I got the exhausted parent which was delicious. It was coffee, bourbon, and semisweet chocolate. Wow it was so tasty, it was a unique combination I hadn't had anywhere else before and it was just the right amount of sweetness for my likely. I especially liked the semi sweet chocolate choice. I also tried some of the raspberry sorbet which was refreshing. We just got the kid scoop size which was a total of $6 for the two. Such a great price for the quality and amount you get. I can't remember if any of the flavors were classified as vegan, however it would be nice if they had this for all my vegan pals out there. The employees were friendly and nice and had masks on for covid19 and customers wore masks too. #maskup I would definitely go back and support this busy, especially after a hot day at the dunes. read more

Lots of delicious, unique flavors here. Great variety of portion sizes, and had reasonable sizes for little kids. The two teenage boys working were very friendly and having fun with their job and you could tell they enjoyed being there, which made our visit more enjoyable as well. read more

High quality ice-cream in a cute little shop in downtown Chesterton. During covid, the backdoor is locked, there is no seating available, and employees are behind large plexiglass. I'm not sure if they're still doing samples, but we knew what we wanted and got oreo. Tasted like high quality ice cream with good chunks of oreo in it. read more

Favorite place ever, go-to dessert place, cute little park right by it to take walks when it's warm. Favorite is Superman ice cream. Employees are very nice! I went on a Monday evening, about 5:30. There were only 3 employees in that day, but there were only about 4 or 5 people ordering and they were small orders. Seat are slightly ripped but it doesn't bother me, since the place is old. Lots of good flavors and they have tiny scoops of you want them so my kids can get three tiny scoops to try more flavors without it being way too much ice cream. They have gelato also which I think is homemade. Ultimate Oreo and Exhausted Parent (espresso ice cream with a bourbon swirl) are my favorite flavors. read more

It's been awhile since I handed out the fin. Dog Days earned it. Look, there's ice cream that pacify's the need. There's ice cream that's above the grade. And there's places like Dog Days, that serve frozen perfection. I had three different flavors of DD's ice cream: chocolate, strawberry and cookie dough. The cookie dough is pretty damn good and would have tempted five stars alone. Then my son asked me to try the strawberry and chocolate that he ordered. If this description doesn't sell it..nothing will. Their chocolate ice cream is like eating a piece of Portillo's chocolate cake, except frozen. Enough said. Strawberry is a fan favorite for me as flavors go, so I've sampled a great deal of it in my time. I can't recall a better strawberry than Dog Days. It contains pieces of the fruit (common for high grade ice cream only) and has none of the strawberry syrup flavor to it like most strawberry ice creams do. I wished I had the stomach to try more..I would have. Dog Days only has a dozen flavors or so but in my estimation, they're concentrating on high quality over expanding flavor selection. The flavor is obnoxiously good. My only regret was that I couldn't bring any home. I don't note decor unless it's really dirty or captures the imagination. So when my son sat in one of their booths, the old bowling lane double seats around the tables captured my interest. The owner commented that they were found in condition outside a closed bowling alley. I have to commend his luck, and eye for an unusual but very cool style of seat. Dog Days has a great feel to it and the killer ice cream to boot. Cheers! read more

We were on our way back to Chicago from seeing family and I had a taste for ice cream or gelato. I was looking for a place that had frozen yogurt as my mom (who was with us) can't have ice cream (lactose intolerance but can have frozen yogurt). I found this place and walked in...unfortunately they didn't have the yogurt, but they did have lactose free ice cream (soy). Big plus in my book and my mom was happy. I opted for a double scoop gelato ice cream cone...campfire mix (freshly made) and tirimisu....very tasty. Loved the decor of the place...the retro look. The owners must be Polish as they had a Polish tapestry on the wall.....nice touch....and the seats...very cool. I will definitely come to this place again....great local business in downtown Chesterton. And yes, they do accept debit/credit cards now. read more

Stopped in here after a tasty meal at Octave Grill it it did not disappoint! Love the small town feel that harkens back to ice cream parlors of 50's and 60's. Two cool train sets going around near the ceiling added to the fun ambiance. It was just what the doctor ordered after spending a fast-paced week in Los Angelas, where it's anything but relaxing. We visited the area this weekend and stumbled upon this gem of a shop! The gelato flavors were delicious and we throughly enjoyed our marscapone pistachio Carmel waffle cone! However, beating the adorable store front and delicious gelato were the two fine young people who served us. An amazing young man and a bright young lady happily allowed us to try things, gave great recommendations and served us with a smile despite a rush of people! When we wandered back to the shop asking for recommendations for the area they were attentive and fun in giving us a list of great things to do! I say these two are Chesterton hero's! read more
