The coolest bookstore I've ever been to! My friend and I were on a mission for books to add to our "to-read" lists, and found this really cool store via google. It's nice to see small business bookstores doing so well, because it was really busy here! I wish we had more businesses like this where we're from. Small inside, but room to navigate around. I loved the Staff Picks and science fiction sections the best. There's also a decent fiction selection as well. At check-out, we ended up getting 4 books each! So there are some really great finds here. We'll definitely come back! This was such a fun shopping experience.

Cute place. Staff is happy to discuss. Their store is well kept and it looks like the frequently have sales and giveaways!

Lovely bookstore in the mission district with a wide variety of books, every genre, including rare first editions, with an affordable and accessible for most price range of new and used books. Pleasant staff and a clean, organized set up made my experience here top notch!

This bookstore is the place I use to walk by when I use go to the corner store across the street to grab an adult beverage on the corner of 20th street and Valencia. I would pass this bookstore going to Mission Playground or the alley. Over the years my curiosity grew what was inside the book store as many people frequently roamed inside. Since it closes late I decided to give it a whirl years ago and still come here to find some rare books. Dog eared books is an independent bookstore ( I thought it is was a pet store when I first saw it) which has books of all kinds. It is good to walk inside the bookstore when I am in the area and check the books out from all different points of views ( POV) and perspectives with some of the books which are dog eared. Opening a book may open the mind on the dog eared corner of 20th and Valencia street. Dog eared has some books inside that are gems which are hidden Lot's of gems are inside the books that are classics and others recently written

Very cute! Wish I would have taken pictures inside well. Has a great selection of boos and I love that they buy and resell used books.they also have a kids/teen section.

Been to a lot of mom and pop bookstores and this one takes the medal so far. The staff here is amazing and so helpful even when there are crowds of people inside. I love the interior and the smell of fresh waffle cones next door. It makes browsing for books 100x better. The books are fairly priced and if you purchase $50 or more you get your own dog eared books tote bag! (I don't know for how long)

Cute little stop on Valencia! They've got small sections of genres like history, science, philosophy, sci-fi, and animals / nature. There's also a little children's book section at the front. You can always try your luck with the "free books" box outside the store. The staff we met that day were friendly - while checking out, they struck up conversation and said they would order a book we were interested in!

What a great little bookstore! It was so fun to get to explore here with a bunch of writer friends. I was able to walk to here from 16th St Mission Bart station, and it was a nice walk on a sunny day to explore San Francisco.

Tess is so friendly, followed me around a bit, and let me pet her. Made me feel so happy. Xx

Well, ok, this place isnt close to Union Sq, about a mile away, but it was a perfect delicious end destination for a post dinner stroll! I like bookstores and I like eclectic, unique ones. I'll go to Barnes & Noble if I had no other choice, but my favorite bookstores are independent ones and ones where they carry very unique books you can't find elsewhere. This bookstore made my inner little nerdy self so happy. I immediately got lost up front looking at very recent publication by Ai Weiwei. I then wandered onto the main floor and found an entire section of Asian works, which you will not find at B&N. I also found books from Norwegian writers too which I had never seen before, which thrilled me. I then made my way up to their attic floor which is dedicated to poetry and seems I just missed Allen Ginsberg's Howl centennial celebration. Ugh! I then came back down and then proceeded to their basement section and again I was quite pleasantly surprised by the depth and breadth of Asian themed books they had. They had plenty of the Chinese classics in English and found so many different versions of Journey to the West, I was completely overwhelmed. And then, saw an entire section on Africa and I had to fight hard to not pick up a copy of a book titled Prison Letters, which is a collection of Mandela's letters while imprisoned. I ultimately settled on two books by Ai Weiwei as he has continued to inspire me to be proud, to not conform, to be brave, to speak up, to be authentically and unapologetically me, to honor my ancestry and to push boundaries and to fight for what matters. And it just so happens too that my Chinese give name is also Weiwei. I loved coming to this bookstore and it will definitely be on rotation for me when I am in SF again.

What I love here are the carefully curated staff selections that are found everywhere. There are always unexpected finds and books you'd never unearth online all housed in this labyrinth of a store. One of my favorite Sunday rituals: browsing until I find something unexpected, and then heading down Clement for dim sum, some thrifting, maybe a Kamei treasure, a strawberry crepe, and some Asian groceries. A Green Apple visit makes the outing complete.
