I really enjoyed the vibe in here, it's quiet and has an upstairs area and a back patio. We order a matcha lemonade and a matcha latte. The matcha was rich and didn't oxidize. No notes!

I visited Black Bird for the first time because I was attending an author talk. Upon seeing their cafe, I decided to order a few items. Matcha latte with whole milk : It's very savory which is great, unsweetened by default. I thought this was one of the better matchas I've had if you want to be able to taste the matcha strongly. Olive oil spelt cake: It reminds me of pound cake. Not that sweet except the frosting/icing. It was okay but as someone who's not as fond of that kind of cakey texture, I'd probably not get it again. They have a really lovely garden and patio in the back. There is also a bathroom. The acoustics and set up for events isn't great, though. It was hard for me to concentrate on the speaker for the book talk since you can hear the noises from the cafe behind and also the sounds of other store customers all around you. That was the only downside, but I think it's a very charming bookstore otherwise.

I found this place on TikTok and decided to stop by first thing on a Saturday morning. There's street parking early in the morning. There's some seating outside. You walk up order at a window and there's a small sitting area inside. There's a book store but it doesn't open till 9 am . There's also a sitting area inside the backyard but you can't go it early. The coffee was pretty good I was up all day.

Such a cute little book shop and cafe! You order at the window outside and pick up your drink inside. While you wait, you can explore the book shop! Make sure to check out the awesome outdoor space as well as the little loft upstairs! The strawberry matcha was delicious but I thought it was a bit pricey ($9). I guess it was worth it because we stayed there and chatted for a few hours.

I gave Black Bird Bookstore and Cafe in the Sunset District a second chance and it's safe to say that their matcha did not disappoint this time! I got the Guava Matcha Latte (w/ oat milk) and it was so good!!! I love that the flavor was more on the subtle side, not overpowering guava puree / syrup! Definitely not suitable for wfh but absolutely perfect for chatting with friends or reading a book Oh and I absolutely LOVE that it's a coffee shop AND bookstore... my literal dream

Great welcoming vibes and could really feel the community, full of friends, families. Hosts various kinds of workshops. Bookstore x cafe x plant shop. + Hojicha latte w oat milk ($7) using rockys! No extra charge for non dairy and by default no sweetener but had a yummy tea flavor and natural sweetness. Only con was too powdery (7.5/10)

Coffee, plants, books all in one convenient gem of a spot. Also a really cool other merch available for browsing and purchase. Just a couple blocks away walk and you're there at the beach!! Just across walk and you get to enjoys great seafood place! Love the book selections and love that they have an entire second floor dedicated to young bookworms. What a great place to have coffee and immerse yourself in books and be surrounded by plants and feel an ocean breeze!

Love this bookstore coffee shop combo. They also have a nice selection of cutesie gifts. They are super kid friendly and have tons of kids books, a reading nook and an outdoor space. I appreciate that they offer complimentary wrapping as well! Their staff is super friendly and very helpful!

Customer service and interior was very nice. Interesting bookstore and lots to see. The drinks (peach matcha and strawberry matcha) felt like they could use more puree, and we felt that they were priced pretty steep for being a tiny cup. The grand total for 2 cups was $20.64. On top of that, the tip screen only showed options for 20%, 25%, and 30%. Overall, wouldn't come back but maybe for the books!

On a sunny day in SF, this bookstore and cafe is a great space to explore! On the weekend, there was a short line; I only waited about five minutes before ordering. I tried thier hojicha latte, which had a strong, tasty flavor that came through very nicely. It wasn't as sweet as I personally preferred, but the depth of the hojicha still made it enjoyable. After finishing our drinks, my friends and I enjoyed exploring their book collection. There's also a small nook upstairs that mainly has childrens' books but also provides a great view of the downstairs area!

Black bird cafe in San Francisco has great books, excellent coffee and lots of fun stuff to do..if you are a book enrhusiast. Wednesday at Black bird offers ( on 1 st Wednesday of the month) a writing club, 2nd Wednesday of the month an open mic night for poetry readers and games and pie on the 3 rd Wednesday of each month. They also have an after hours reading club on 4 th Wednesday of each month. The children's book section is fabulous and the have a back yard to sit on and drink coffee, read books or talk to a friend. Great place to relax!!! Very Zen and peaceful. Great helpful friendly staff too.

Stopped by Black Bird Bookstore and Cafe and this place is such a nice little hidden gem. The ambiance is super cozy and unique. The bookstore inside gives it a really warm and inviting feel, and it's a great place to just slow down for a bit. The backyard area was my favorite part, really peaceful and relaxing, perfect for sitting down with a drink or a book. Service was smooth and everything came out quickly. Strawberry Matcha Really good and refreshing. The matcha was smooth and not too bitter, and the strawberries added a nice natural sweetness. You can tell they were fresh and locally sourced, which made a difference. Overall It's a great spot if you want something more lowkey and relaxing compared to typical cafes. Good drinks, good vibe, and a space you actually want to hang out in. Definitely somewhere I'd come back to just to unwind for a bit :D

Beautiful location with ample seating, and such a smart idea to combine books and coffee! I only browsed through the bookstore part briefly, but seems to have a nicely curated selection of books and lots of options for kiddos. The outdoor seating in the back has lots of little nooks to curl up in with a good book. I ordered a vanilla matcha latte at the cafe, which was quite good. It was decently strong, and it's properly prepared so that the matcha powder is fully emulsified into the drink. Highly recommend coming here! It's also a less than five minute walk from the beach, so you could enjoy your book / coffee there as well.

With every twist and turn, another staircase or room appears, filled with books and entirely new worlds to discover. It always brings me back to the days I spent with my grandmother at our old library. We would sit together on the stairs and read to each other, completely content to spend hours surrounded by books. I think that's part of why City Lights feels so special to me--it brings back that same sense of curiosity, comfort, and excitement I felt with her. I rarely come here looking for one specific thing. The fun is wandering the shelves until a cover, title, or completely unexpected book catches my attention. Somehow I always leave with another story I can't wait to disappear into. There are bookstores you go to simply to buy a book, and then there are bookstores you experience. City Lights is the latter. It's a little piece of San Francisco that I hope never changes.

They spoke Japanese and received a Japanese education, so this bookstore always held a special meaning for them. The store carries a wide selection of Japanese books, magazines, Reader's Digest (Japanese edition), and manga. It also offers many adorable Japanese-style plush toys, collectibles, and accessories. You'll often see American teenagers who are passionate about Japanese anime and manga browsing here, which gives the bookstore a lively and welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend this bookstore to anyone who loves Japanese culture, anime, manga, or simply wants to experience a little piece of Japan.

Like you see more Japanese writing on the walls and signs. They also have a much larger variety of magazines and books here. As with all bookstores, they do sell a lot of plushies and toys here. Saw a lot of Pusheen stuff. There's also a lower level that's dedicated entirely to Manga. And it looks like a pretty huge collection. So I would say this location is maybe 40% reading books, 40% Manga, toys, and gifts and 20% magazines. Or, you can come visit and check it out yourself. There's cute things here worth checking out.
