Stumbled upon this place completely by happenstance, and I'm glad we drove down to the Kwik Trip instead of taking the turn just before Tomahawk. I love these little roadside stands that are quickly fading remnants of the past. And I am a root beer connoisseur so of course this place warranted a stop for a root beer float. This is a place where they come out and take your order, apparently--but I didn't know that so I went up to the booth. They were busy chatting so maybe wouldn't have come out very quickly anyway. They are generous with the soft serve and it was a great float. I've already recommended them to a friend who also loves these little drive-ins. I don't know if I'll ever be this far up in the Northwoods again, but I will stop at Dogs N Suds for a root beer float if I am. Old style joint that takes cash or check only (if, unlike me, you know how to write a check) so don't try whipping out your Apple Pay here. read more

Historically I love the place, but when a corn dog is half the size it once was we have a problem. Two corn dogs and two root beers were $12. Not horrible but they should be more than three bites per dog. The smaller dogs don't eat as well either. I will go back, but please stop letting inflation lead to poor customer experiences. read more

I'm Up North for work and decided to not drive in the main HWY between job sites. Thank goodness for that! Dog N Suds appeared and I knew I had to get some! I tried a double cheeseburger and fries with a coke. That was just a bit over $10. When it was ready the waitress brought out my tray and hung it from the window. The crinkle cut fries were piping hot, just how they should be. And the burger was two good sized patties with two pieces of American cheese oozing out. It was nice and greasy just the water I was meant to be! Highly recommended and definitely worth another visit. read more

Barely introduced by my boyfriend, it's a bit similar to sonic in that they give you your food but you get a little try on your window to hold your food! She was totally excited to have a Texas Burger and a Black Cow! I didn't have the privilege to have a Dog N Suds, but we did have a Dari Castle and the next town over had an old-time A&W so I was quite familiar with the authentic drive-in concept. Sonic does its version which I like very much, but I too was excited to take a trip back. Turned on the Sirius XM to the Fifties station and ordered a coney and a pizzaburger, along with Wendy's Texas Burger and since we were in Wisconsin, some fried curds. It was like going back 40 years, where the car hops pop by, latch your tray laden with paper wrapped treats and mugs of Dog N Suds root beer! The local supermarket does carry Dog N Suds, but it isn't the same as being there. Yeah, the prices are way higher than they were when we were kids, but if you can push past that, and just enjoy the camaraderie of looking over at your neighbors as their kids and dogs are hanging out the windows of their SUVs like our dog was hanging out the window of the F-150, playing 'Big Girls Don't Cry' while you wait for your order? We really loved the entire Dog N Suds experience. It did take a long time to get our food but they were very busy so I didn't mind. The burgers were delicious. The cheese curds and onion rings were some of the best we've ever had. We weren't fans of the deep fried pickles but I've never tried them & wanted to. Root beer was great as were the vanilla shake & hot fudge malts we had. My niece said she wanted to come back again before we'd even left. It was well worth the 45 minute drive. read more

I don't give it 5 stars because it is pricey for what it is and where it is. Maybe a drive-in in New York I could justify the prices but not Tomahawk, WI. For 3 people to eat and tip the car hop, it was $26 if I remember correctly. That included what I ordered above, 2 coney dogs, 1 order of fries, and 2 more root beers. Pretty pricey for what it is in my opinion. The car hop was exceptionally nice though so I do appreciate that! Would definitely come back here if I was in tomahawk again. read more
