Had dinner here recently. Pleased they finally replaced the booths that last Summer were ripped up & losing stuffing. This is definitely more of a joint/up north bar vibe. Drinks are good and cheap. Food was good, not great. I had a wrap sandwich which wasn't really wrapped well & fell apart when eating it. Lighting is so bad where we were seated that I could barely see my food. Service was great! Will return, but plan to sit at the bar with better lighting. Stop in for a drink! read more

Visiting friends and decided to try Billy Bobs and we're not disappointed. Easy to find, good parking, clean location. Inside clean friendly atmosphere and greeted warmly by staff. Large menus with many choices. I tried the cheese burger pizza and loved it. Others had mushroom and Swiss burgers and a turkey bacon wrap and all were made the way we asked. One of the cooks stopped by and checked to see if everyone had what we wanted. Prices for our food and drinks was really reasonable! Will stop again when in the area. As we were leaving deer were playing by the volleyball area!!! read more

This is definitely a sports bar. Lots of TV's. We go for the food which is consistently good. The gyro is very good as are the burgers. The fish and Italian sandwich are good. Pizza is excellent. The pizza we had here was very good. Both a basic sausage and one that had sausage, pepperoni, green pepper, onion, and mushrooms. Service was great. 4 of us went on a Monday evening and it was hoppin. The service was quick and friendly, the place was a typical Northwoods bar & grill. I have to give the fries a 2/10 first because I don't like the fries with the skin on them but they were really soft. I had the Philly Beef which was ok, The others had burger type things and they said they were ok also. Beer on tap is way too expensive for the area in my opinion. As a local we have tried most of the nearby spots and this place is our favorite. The food is always good. Our favorites are the broasted chicken, especially on Sunday when it comes with mashed potatoes, and the pizza! I recommend if you order pizza to order it crispy because the pepperoni gets that yummy crunch then and that's personally what I like. The service is always amazing here and we stop in as often as we can. Oh and if it's summer and a Thursday their ribs are a MUST. So good!! read more

First time at Billy Bob's... Also my first Wisconsin Fish Fry. I got the cod plus the potato pancake and an old fashioned. (Sounds like a classic Wisconsin Fish Fry) The service was great, the waitress had great recommendations on the drinks for the whole table and we also got cheese curds which were lightly battered and amazing ! Came on a Friday night for a fish fry. Stood awkwardly at the door not knowing if we should seat ourselves or not. Not one server or bartender made eye contact, smiled or nodded in our direction. I don't mind waiting, but after 15 minutes I felt like they just wanted us to leave. I finally inquired if we should seat ourselves. Once seated food was good and service quick , but did not feel welcome by staff. Our son has a home here and his wife had the same experience stopping in For a drink. She wasn't sure if she should seat herself or what. Another local had her join them finally at the bar. She did not know these people, but could see the unwelcoming situation. Really nice neighborhood bar! Good burgers and apps, their sweet potato waffle fries are totally yummy - even better with honey mustard! Went there 3 times on our one week vacation. Definitely a must stop ! It is always on the busier side most likely because the Food here is outstanding. HUGE menu with lots of options and unique items. They always have a special or additional menu going on. Service is usually pretty good, we've had a few times where it was sub par but normally good. Drinks are top notch ! Good food, fresh cut fries and lots of them. New waitress was overwhelmed. Staff was Nice but very busy. I would be careful if you are in a hurry. I was there for a good hour. Newer waitress took 10+ min to get my drink order. The beef sandwich was good but the bread did not stand up to the juices. These are small criticisms though, over all positive experience. read more

Stopped here for lunch because we heard they had good food. They don't. They have excellent food!! One of the best burgers I've had in a long time. 1/2 pounder with all the toppings served with awesome, skin-on fries. Maybe a dollar or two more than some bars but well worth it. Our waitress was also fantastic. Super friendly and attentive. Decor is nice and clean and lots of tvs to watch the games. We'll definitely be back. read more

My family has been eating at Billy Bobs for years. I've always enjoyed it but recently I've become obsessed with a couple different menu items, like the billy bob beef sandwich. The sirloin in the sandwich melts in your mouth and the topping are just perfect. Also, the Friday night fish fry is one of the best in the area. All the fish is great from the cod to the perch. I love the potato pancakes as well. It's gets busy so it recommend getting there early to beat the crowd. read more

I walked into this place, mid ice storm and it was still packed on a Monday night mid February. The drink specials were decent. I think Monday was all you can eat wings. Awesome. I ended up getting what the local guy sitting next to me ordered, the Italian Dip. It was great. The roast beef had to be homemade. The waitstaff worked furiously. I think one bartender and one waitress held down the fort of like 50+ people. Locals weren't afraid of striking a up a conversation, although... The first thing said to me was "Wow, you don't have any lines on your forehead!" Yes odd enough, but I would still go back! read more

Stopped in for the AYCE chicken wings and fries. Nice, clean, bright place. Servers were nice and attentive; ours was very friendly and knowledgeable. I had the wings: first the sweet spicy then the hot. Wings were big and meaty and done well. A few of mine weren't hot, just warm. But cooked fine. I am guessing the sauces they tossed them in were cold and took away from the wing temperature. I love fresh cut fries, these were good. I like the bleu cheese dressing too. Overall, it's was a nice place with good wings and fries. If business brings me back up to Tomahawk, I will definitely come back. read more

This is a good size sports bar with solid, if not spectacular, food. The food is actually fresher and tastier than most local restaurants - especially the aging supper clubs. The burgers appear to be hand made with fresh ground beef. The fries are a wife favorite and the pizza is delicious too. Lots of TVs to catch the Packers, Brewers and other sporting events. Service is usually good, but that does fluctuate. Appropriate for kids. read more

Have been here a couple times when I'm visiting my parent's cabin near Tomahawk. They have AMAZING pizza. There is something about the crust that is just perfect... not too thin and it has a bit of a garlic taste? Whatever they are doing tastes great. I've only had the pizza here, so I cannot speak for anything else on the menu. Nice patio, good service. Not sure what it's like after 10pm, but seems like it could be a good place for a few drinks. There seems to be a younger crowd there - but don't let that deter you from trying their pizza! read more

For the area, Billy Bob's has some of the better food around - granted, the Northwoods is by no means known for fresh ingredients, innovative food, or even utilizing salt appropriately so that's worth a little but certainly doesn't make it great. Sysco rules most Northwoods restaurants, although Billy Bob's does appear to cook many dishes from scratch and even makes their own fries so at least they try. Unfortunately, the food is still hit or miss at Billy Bob's - the pulled pork "po-boy" is a stringy mush of pork which is eminently forgettable. The pizza always looks good and some of the sandwich specials such as beef with blue cheese & onions have been good but in general the food is average or maybe a little better - the place is always packed however so that is usually a good sign as long as they can handle the crowds. Service, unfortunately, is generally below par and it turns out they apparently can't handle the crowds so if you see a full parking lot I would recommend that you keep on driving if you're remotely hungry at that moment. On my first visit service in a fairly empty restaurant was quite slow but friendly enough and at the low end of the acceptable range. My second visit was sitting at the bar when the restaurant was virtually empty and the food was slower than I would have expected but fine because I know they're actually making food rather than just throwing stuff in a microwave. On my third visit during a somewhat busy lunch (about two thirds of the tables were full), our server was horrible and the wait times were ridiculous - we placed an order 10 minutes after sitting down, then waited 30 minutes for our cheese curd appetizer to come out and another 30 minutes after that for our sandwiches to be served (while we even saw some people who were seated just before or even after us being served, eating, paying, and leaving ). We also overheard the waitress complain to the bartender (who I believe is also an owner) after 45 minutes about the slowness at which point the bartender loudly berated the server and told her that "it's not fast food" and "let them wait". Honestly, the server let us sit there with empty glasses for 5-10 minutes at a time and studiously avoided eye contact for the first 45 minutes so she did an overall poor job and I suspect the food delay (due to a "mixup in the kitchen") was her fault but at least after we asked about our food she finally tried to do something about it. If the bartender/owner feels it is acceptable for an Italian Beef and a Chicken Sandwich to take 60 minutes to be served (and this number is not exaggerated, at all) then apparently there is a major issue at Billy Bob's that will never be fixed. There aren't a ton of options in the area, but I still don't have any expectation of returning to Billy Bob's after multiple visits with average to marginal experiences. And based on their attitude it appears they are fine with that - if they're making money and have a full parking lot much of the time then it's certainly their prerogative to turn away business. For their sake, I hope their business continues to be successful but I certainly won't recommend Billy Bob's to anyone based on my experiences. read more

One of the best options in Tomahawk and honestly better fare than I have experienced at any of the supper clubs. If you are looking for a break from the "frozen store bought then deep fried" normal offerings of this area- this is the place. The Sunday night fried chicken dinner was a huge hit with the family and my 5 year old son wanted another plate of chicken he liked it so much. Pizzas are made from scratch- a little heavy handed on the cheese but this is WI I guess. I also really enjoyed their southwestern cheese curds (? can't remember name), a little spicy dipping sauce made for nice change of pace. Not a lot of choices for a vegetarian but I've come to expect that in this area. Service is definitely typical WI sloooooooooooowww. HS/ College aged kids who aren't really educated on the menu or beer selection and need to be tackled if you want another round of anything. Absolutely nice people, just no sense of urgency. The bar is great, good selection of beers and plenty of TVs. They have been kind enough to change the station to whatever we wanted to watch both times we've been there. Ok- so honestly would I give this place 4 stars if it was anywhere else? Probably not, it's just average bar food. But given the choices in this area I would definitely recommend this place. Service from the bartenders was outstanding, these two girls had serious hustle and not only took care of bar guests, but also all the drinks for the servers and dealing with the carry out business. When we arrived it was quite busy. After a short wait, we got a small table right next to the kitchen where all the waitresses were walking out of. We first had Lindsay for our waitress but after being continuously ignored by her (and her walking past our table several times) we finally asked another waitress to take our order. We ended up having Amanda as our waitress and her service was the lone bright spot of our visit. My boyfriend had the Philly beef sandwich and I had the Billy Bob burger and both were extremely burnt and dry. We are visitors to the area but I will not return to Billy Bob's ever again. read more
