I had been going to Dog Star grooming from Fort Bragg to Willits every month. At first there wasn't a problem until January 2021 when she cut Ruby way too short. Ruby's next haircut was in July (as I recall) by Bridgette who did an excellent job. I'm attaching the letter I sent Dog Star. It pretty much explains the situation. I guess Jessica didn't think about cutting poor Ruby so short. She cut off her nose to spike her face. Had she groomed Ruby as I requested, she would have been able to groom her every other month at a cost $20 higher than just a bath. The cut she did is going to take 5 to 6 months to grow out as it did the last time she scalped her. Therefore, she cut herself out of 2 grooming's in that time frame. I never called and yelled at her. She's the one that was yelling, would barely let me get a word in edgewise and immediately told me to get a different groomer. Unfortunately, I am unable to do that as she has had the nerve to call all other groomers in the area and they will not groom my dogs. She is one vindictive person and should not be a business owner. BEWARE Here is the text of my letter: Jessica Dog Star Grooming 1762 South Main Street Willits, California 95490 Jessica, Enclosed is a replacement check in the amount of $70 for yesterday's grooming for Pearl and Hattie. I have stopped payment on the original check. Because of YOUR attitude and your refusing to groom my dogs in the future, I refuse to pay you for Ruby's cut that looks absolutely horrible. It is going to take 5 to 6 months for her to grow out. She is going to look horrible for the holidays. You said that was the second time I complained. One would think that if that had happened once before you would make notes so it wouldn't happened a second time. When you asked if ¼ inch was good for her body, I told you that that would be too short. We agreed on half the length that it currently was and I said to you, "but not her head". The body of her haircut was fine. She, unfortunately, has no hair on the top of her head, no eyebrows and no beard. It was more like you cut it like YOU wanted and not what I requested. Your ego seems to be the problem. You said I called and screamed at you. That is certainly not the case. It's regrettable that I couldn't talk to you with a future solution to Ruby's haircuts. I only wanted to set up a system such as a description in her profile and a photo of how I prefer her hair to be cut. I was hoping that would prevent any future problems. However, your ego stepped in and you refused to work it out or groom my dogs. When Bridgette groomed Ruby, she asked what I wanted and did it to a tee. No problem at all. Be grateful that I enclosed a check for Pearl and Hattie, only because I feel I do owe you for their grooming, but definitely not Ruby's. read more

Walked in early (1:30) to drop our pup off for our 2:00 appointment. Lady told me that she "tried" calling to cancel. She said she had to be out of there by 2:30 and her other groomer called in sick. I checked my phone to see if I missed any calls, and there wasn't any. We live 20 min on the outskirts of town and we were headed to Ukiah for an appointment. Returning home to drop the pup off was out of the question and it was a 95 degree day. We had taken our pup here once before for a shave and my only complaint that time was they didn't feather the shave into her head. She's a thick furred dog and it looked like she had a bowl cut around her head. She looked pretty ridiculous. This time, a lack of communication was very frustrating. On the plus side, I called Fox and Hound Groomers In Ukiah and they said I could drop her off when I got there and they'd squeeze her in for a wash, shave and teeth clean (they did a great job). read more

I called the groomer and left a message and they got back to me within 1 day. I dropped off my pomsky, Rocky, around 10 and picked him up about an hour later. I have never had a bad experience here! The owner Jessica is amazing and is the only groomer that my skiddish dog isn't afraid of and I have literally gone to every groomer in ukiah, but choose to drive to willits because that's how good of a job they do. I just met Lori, a newer worker there and she groomed three of my little dogs yesterday. (toy poodle, yorkie and mini Aussie) they were all done perfectly. I love that they have always let me know if something was going on with my dog that I hadn't noticed, like a lump or start of an ear infection. I also like that you drop them off for the appointment and then pick them up after, they don't have to be left there all day. I highly recommend them! I never write reviews but I just had to make an exception after my visit to Dog Star Grooming. I was recently in the greater Willits area on a road trip with my dog Ruffles. He got so dirty on after hiking in the Redwood Forest that I had to bring him somewhere to get washed and groomed. I called and Jessica told me to bring him right in! Two hours later ol Ruffles was as clean and perfect as the day brought him home. Jessica said he was very well behaved and even gave him a treat! Took my German shepherd Spencer for his first trip to the "salon". The price was reasonable, the people very professional and friendly. He made a huge mess with all his fur. Be careful not to complain about the service or the owner will ban your dog for life. The first time I took my dogs there I talked to the groomer a little bit about finding a new groomer in Willits she asked me where i had gone before and when i told her she was quick to badmouth them and proceeded to tell me she used to work there and how the place abused the animals. When i made the appointment i was quoted a price of $70 but when I went to pick them up it was $80. I figured i would just pay and hope they would charge me the quoted price next time. When i got home i took a look at the grooming job and noticed that my dog that gets a complete shave down still had long hairs everywhere. On my second appointment my dog got the same shave down. When i went to pick him up he had the same problem so i went back inside a told her i was not happy with the grooming services and showed her the long hair. She proceeded to tell me that it was my dogs fault because letting her shave him wasn't his favorite thing to do. I then asked for a little bit of a refund sense my dog wasn't completely done right. The owner then got an attitude and handed me all my money back and told me to go somewhere else instead of offering to fix the bad groom job. Months later i decided to give them another chance but just nail trims. I got 2 nail trims from the owner with dreads and everything went fine so i wanted to try another grooming but when my girlfriend called the lady said my dogs were not welcome because we didn't pay for the grooming services that she refunded me. Jessica put my nervous ok dog at ease. She did an expert job trimming nails and cleaning efficiently and did it all for a reasonable price. Honestly I believe pet smart did a better job. I went to try the place out, first she wad doing great. I noticed she was cutting the hair shorter and shorter. Couldn't be more pleased with the service and attention. Not at all like other groomers who want you to leave the dog all day. Make an appointment and my dog is out in less than an hour (mostly bath and nails with light trimming). Price is very reasonable and service is wonderful. My sweet dog , Martini, is 13 and unfortunately has terrible arthritis for her age. The Vet says she really needs a hip replacement but we aren't going that route. I was extremely concerned about getting her groomed this year as she needs to rest often. She does not like other animals. It is always a problem dropping her off at groomers and leaving her as other Groomers keep her practically the entire day which is extremely hard on her. This was my first visit to Dog Star Grooming. I love that they get her in and out...you have an appointment and they do it in that time frame. Yeah!!!!! When I brought her I explained her health issues. They too were concerned and mentioned she may need to go to the vet for her grooming...they looked her over and we agreed, if it is too much for her just stop and I will come back. They were so good to us both...They called me in an hour to let me know how she was doing, letting me know they were giving her breaks etc. so i wouldn't be worried. An hour later they called and said, Martini is done...we aren't :) but she is. I WAS SO APPRECIATIVE that they paid attention to her needs even though it would have been easier on them to just buzz her through.....They were very concerned that her appearance wasn't the best as they needed a second appointment after letting her rest up. I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH DOG STAR AND HOW THEY PUT THE HEALTH OF OUR SWEET PETS FIRST..... I think Martini looked adorable with her body shaved but not her head...like a lion....it matters not to me how she looked but how she was treated....I WILL FOR SURE BE GOING BACK. Also, I want to mention that the shop didn't have the stinky smell that most groomers businesses have....it was fresh and clean smelling.....ALL AROUND A GREAT EXPERIENCE.
