We LOVE Dogtown! We've been boarding our dogs with them since 2003. The first time was in September of 2003 when we went to Aruba for our honeymoon. While we were away, hurricane Isabel blew through the DMV and Dogtown called my husband's brother to let him know, to let us know vthat all was good with our pups. This is the only place I trust with my dogs overnight. The owner is a prior dog trainer for the military and takes his responsibility seriously and shows great respect for the pups he boards. Each dog has his own "dog house" which is private, not like cages. My dogs always have a great time there - it's like a resort for them. I just wish it was closer to the city, but you can't have everthing. read more

We love boarding our dog Jaxx at Dogtown! We have been taking him there for 6 years now, and never had a problem. You obviously want to book in advance around the holidays though. Jaxx always comes home from a week at Dogtown ready to nap, I can only imagine he has a lot of fun there. They have also dont some renovating I see to the main office, as well as the doghouses. My dog did a 9 day stay at Dogtown recently. He seemed to love it! First, the owner and staff are super sweet and professional. They are very organized, too. They really KNOW dogs! Second, the facility is well-kept, clean and very spacious. Third, the fees are very reasonable. My dog came home happy, clean and tired from all the playing he had! No. Just No. I boarded my dog here for a week and when I picked him up he was lethargic and barely able to walk. My dog is a young 25 lbs Beagle mix and the manager carried him out and physically handed him to me to carry to my car - that's not normal. My dog barely raised his head, didn't wag, and he didn't move when I placed him in my car. I asked the manager and he told me that this was common because the dogs get so tired from playing all the time, which is ridiculous. Anyway, after a day at home my dog had still barely eaten or moved so I took him to the vet, which administered IV fluids for extreme dehydration. My dog walked into Dogtown happy and healthy, and Dogtown returned my dog dehydrated, barely moving and barely eating. Never going back. read more

My dogs love it here. The staff are friendly and professional. The owner is wonderful. He cares about the dogs and it really shows. I couldn't imagine taking my dogs anywhere else. I board my two dogs Rufus and Dempsey there at least three times a year and I am never disappointed. They always come home happy. read more

I love this place! The owner obviously has a deep understanding of dogs and cares very much about the animals that stay with him, and he completely eased my fears about boarding my dog for the first time. I like that at Dogtown my dog gets plenty of group playtime in large, grassy areas, but also has quiet time to himself and his own private space. When I picked him up he was pleasantly tired, completely happy and relaxed. Even though I live in DC and this isn't the most convenient location for me, I won't board my dog anywhere else. read more

This is the only place that I will take my dog for boarding! I drive all the way from Falls Church, VA to bring my dog here because they are the best. The dogs get plenty of fresh air, time to run around in a big, fenced yard, and good care. He carefully selects which dogs can socialize with each other. The owner Craig and his wife understand dogs so well. Craig trained dogs for the military as well as the police force. He knows training but also dog mentality along with that he truly loves dogs. They were 1) professional, 2) clean, 3) knowledgable, 4) reassuring to leave a 5-month old puppy with them. Our pup had a lovely roommate and he made friends very quickly. Great staff. My Doberman and Lab look forward to their visits. When I enter the gate they get excited. When they exit my car, they do not look back. That is a sign that they enjoy their visits. I no longer have to worry about what to do when I need to go out of town. read more

I wish my experience with the facility was as great as the other reviews but it left a sour taste in my mouth. I took my now 6 mos old husky back in Apr after the meet and greet. The owner didn't interact much with my dog but rather sale me the facility. I would say it's a great setup but the so called experienced trainer is all talk. After the first stay, my pup came home and was a little aggressive with me but it didn't last long, so I brushed it off. This 2nd time she was there for 5 days, several months after her last encounter. I picked her up a earlier than planned and what I found was a puppy caked in mud from head to toe at 7am in the morning. The two young staff members didn't give me any feedback on how she did. The owner didn't even greet me but only walked by and stated "she did okay but a little crazy" and kept going. I took her home to clean her up and where she usually likes her pool, she once again was super aggressive with me trying to clean her. She was scheduled to return the next day for several more days during my vacation but these events raised some concern. When I emailed him to cancel and addressed my concerns, I requested his feedback. What I got was a very passive aggressive email basically saying my dog had behavior issues due to lack of training and discipline and implied that she may not be receiving exercise, discipline or affection. In fact that was futher from and truth considering she has had and still receives training and if anything spoiled by me. I suggested maybe the issue was separation anxiety and I should probably do daycare every once in a while before leaving her for long periods of time unexpectedly. His response to that was he felt my dog would be better off elsewhere and cancelled future visits I had scheduled. My thoughts, he was just mad that I cancelled the stay as he didn't have much to say to me when I picked her up and had I not said anything and dropped her off again, he would have been glad to take my money again. He's a piss poor businessman and if he feels he doesn't need my business, I damn sure will take it elsewhere. I strongly suggest you show up early one day and see what you find, if you really care about how your dog is cared for. Unless you see for your own eyes what's going on day to day, I wouldn't put 100% trust in it. FYI- I know it rained all day while my dog was there. Would you be comfortable in knowing your dog is nasty and unkempt? read more

Horrible experience all together. Communication on their end was terrible. It took multiple times calling to get in touch and I was told they would call back to set up a meet and greet time, which never happened. After multiple calls on my end I finally set up a time to go. After arriving and calling them to tell them I was outside I was left waiting 15 minutes before someone came out to greet me. I than got out of my truck with my 11 month old dog. He is a German Shepard husky mix, he's a good sized dog. I had a muzzle on him as a precaution like any owner should do when taking their dog into a new setting. The man running the place didn't even get close to my dog. Just automatically shook his head and said he wouldn't let him stay there because I brought a muzzle on him. Absolutely ridiculous. I would suggest to anyone considering using this place, if you have a bigger sized dog they will automatically make assumptions about your pet without having ANY interaction with it. Would not recommend this place to anyone. read more
