The staff was friendly, professional and well trained to handle my boy! I was nervous to leave my dog in a kennel but he came home happy and fresh from a spa day. Highly recommend this pet sitting company in Accokeek I have used them throughout the years for MY CAT from a couple of days to almost two weeks of care! The staff is professional, the facility is clean. They house the cats in a separate area from the dogs of course and the cats have their own large cage with a litterbox and bowl of water that's changed daily and two separate perches for them to hop onto. They offer and provide a warm meal for your cat if you don't bring your own food. My cat loves his Fancy Feast grilled wet food and temptation treats so I packed that for his stay which the staff happily gave him. The staff is accommodating to pet's needs so please discuss those concerns with them. To help him feel comfortable with his stay away from home i provided his own small blanket and it was placed into the cage. You don't need to bring your own feeding/water bowls Anchors Kennel provides that. I called almost every day to speak with a staff member who was familiar with my cat and how he was handling the stay. The rates are super affordable the best in the DMV area! You must be current on your pet's immunizations and show proof otherwise you will be denied care at the facility. A pet report card is given at the time of checkout (so cute) about behavior, feeding times, how well pet interacted with staff etc... We boarded our labrador retriever mix Hank for five days. When I picked him up I was notified that he barely ate the entire time he was there and then when I had already checked him out and was walking him to the vehicle, the girl that checked me out comes running out and says "oh I just wanted to inform you that your dogs testicles are a little chafed". And she said "we rubbed balm on them and you should continue to do that". She said that "he spilled little drops of water in his kennel and laid in it and that is what caused this chafing". So I figured it was just a little chafing as she said and Hank was excited so I didn't even look at it at the time. But when I got home I noticed him limping and so I was looking around to find out why he was limping and it was because his testicles were so red and inflamed and irritated and he was in so much pain that he was whimpering. I called Anchors to speak with someone and was told that this happened because Hank chose to lay on the floor and the moisture that is on the floor causes this problem. They basically shrugged it off as not being a big deal and not taking any responsibility for it. Later on when I went to clean Hanks testicles off and he continued to whine when I did it, I became really angry and called back. I was calm and matter-of-fact when I began to speak with one of the owners Princ (who was the person I spoke with the first time I called). I asked him why I wasn't notified of both my dog not eating hardly anything the entire time that he was there and also that I wasn't called when they noticed the severe irritation on his testicles. I was told that this wasn't a life-threatening emergency so they didn't call me. He did not apologize. He did not ask how Hank was doing. All he did was try to defend his actions. I asked why I wasn't notified when they first noticed the irritation. He said because they didn't notice it right away. My question to him was that if he is aware that this is something that happens and he seen that Hank is laying on the floor and there's moisture on the floor, then why not check for these things? Someone has to go in and feed them daily and supposedly take care of them, so why not check for these sort of things. He continued to defend himself by saying Hanks testicles weren't facing them when they went in to check on him previous times so they did not notice it. Princ basically dismissed my question of why it's not something that is monitored closely if it is something that can occur that they are aware of. This could have very well been a life-threatening emergency if Hank acquired an infection. This was very likely a possibility due to the severity of his injury. But no matter what I said to Princ, he just defended it time after time. He took no responsibility for what happened to Hank. He was very cold and at no time showed any concern for the painful condition Hank acquired while being under his care. This was a case of complete neglect. Later when I spoke to the vet and other boarding facilities regarding this matter, I was made aware that it would have either have had to have been urine or disinfectant that would have irritated his testicles to the point of being so raw, red, and painful. That makes sense because you could tell that he had a very strong urine smell when I picked him up and it was attempted to be covered up by someone spraying lots of deodorant spray on him. They also took it upon themselves to treat a very serious wound the wrong way. If moisture is what supposedly created the wound to begin with, then why continue to treat it with more moisture which was the balm they used. The severely irritated wound should have been cleaned and dried. And if they knew that he continue to lay in moisture then that means the condition was going to continue to worsen. And with them knowing full well that this was the case, they still did not contact me. And they still take no responsibility for letting this happen to Hank. I've had two family trips back to back and that is the reason why it's taking me a week to write this review. I had Hank scheduled to be boarded for my second trip but when I called to make sure they had reserved boarding for him, that is when I was notified that he had barely eaten anything while he was there the first five days. So I immediately went and picked him up and that is when this terrible ordeal unfolded. There was no way that I was bringing my dog back to this place to be boarded again so I left him with family. I DO NOT recommend boarding a pet at this facility ever. I would never trust them to look after any living breathing thing that I cared about. They are not responsible, they are not compassionate, they are not trustworthy, and they lack the skills needed to properly care for pets. read more

I love Anchor Kennel!! Their customer service is outstanding and they are very accommodating! I was a little nervous for our very first boarding because it was our husky's first time being boarded. I wasn't sure how she would cope or if she will be ok. They assured me that she would be taken care of. I boarded my pit mix here for a few days in December 2013 while visiting my family for the holidays. It is located right off Indian Head Highway in beautiful Accokeek, surrounded by rolling hills and farm land. Overall, I was impressed by the facilities: family-run, relatively spacious, clean and friendly! After talking to the employees and seeing a handful of locals happily dropping off their dogs for daycare, I felt secure enough leaving my precious baby girl here for a few days (even though I didn't want to leave her at all - that's a different story). My main wish is that I would have had more feedback when I picked her up at the end of the week. I honestly have no idea how she fared while she was there. Knowing she has extreme separation anxiety when we're apart, I asked the front desk employee about her experience or any issues that week and she couldn't tell me anything. She said she didn't really see much of her. I left just assuming she was fine. Later that afternoon, I noticed that my girl had licked off the fur and created multiple hotspot sores on her arms, something she does out of extreme anxiety. I would have appreciated knowing that this behavior was happening... especially when I paid extra fees on top of the boarding rate for daily individual playtime with the staff. I guess no one ever noticed. A few days later, she started coughing and it was later determined that she had picked up kennel cough. I know this is beyond the kennel's control but it is worth noting. Overall, I would still recommend this place to others looking for an affordable dog boarding facility in the DC area. They are pitbull-friendly, unlike most of the surrounding area. I believe pit bulls are actually banned in Prince George's county! Yet like any reasonable dog lover, they don't discriminate against our beloved pitties. That's always a plus. Anyway, my mom plans on using Anchors to board her dog if the need ever arises. In the future, though, I'll request that they monitor her behaviors a little more and give me an update on how she's doing. I regret not sitting down sooner...we started coming here after a horrible experience with Petsmart in Waldorf and we never once regretted it. It's been around seven years and Cathy is a Godsend. Our furry kids love her and look absolutely amazing afterwards! My husband and I consider Cathy as part of the family and trust her implicitly with the dogs. Anchors staff has always been gracious and kind, if more places followed this rule...life would be so much easier! If you're looking for a safe, clean place to have your pets groomed, I highly recommend this establishment. I trust this team and wouldn't even consider moving to another facility!!!! read more

I had an emergency and needed somewhere to board my dog for a few days near Clinton. After reviewing places on Yelp I decided to go with Anchors. I called and they advised me they could take my pup as long as I had proof of his shots. I took my pup there with his paperwork. They reviewed everything, put it in their system and I dropped my pup off with his overnight bag that included toys, treats and food. Boarding for my small pup (20lbs) was $27 a day. That was very reasonable but it only included one feeding a day. They charge extra for each additional feeding. You have to pick up your pet before noon the next day or they will charge for another day. My pups 6 night stay which included 2 feedings a day and a bath the day of pick up cost me about $230 or so. When I arrived he was nice and clean and even had a bow around his neck. Overall, I would recommend them but I would improve on the customer service. I didn't feel the receptionist to be very personable. Lastly they didn't return any of his items when I picked him up so I had to remove a star for that. read more

Went on vacation and I chose AK because of all the good things I've heard. The facility is clean, the staff is friendly, and boarding was affordable. My dog stayed for 5 nights. I was worried because when I drop him off and pick him up from other places like other groomers and the vet, he seems on edge and shaky like he was scared the entire time. He wasn't like that when I picked him up. He seemed happy. I paid for him to have a bath before he came home and he was nice and clean. After a day or so of having him home he started getting sick and I had to take him to the vet. Turns out he had kennel cough. I called AK to find out if there were any sick dogs there and they said there were a few dogs with runny noses and there was possibly a virus going around. It's hardly their fault, but I think they should have sent out a mass text, voicemail or email to owners as soon as they found out. read more

I have been boarding my pets here since 1998. Although you do have to call ahead to get a reservation around major holidays, their prices are fantastic and they treat their boarding guests wonderfully. One of my dogs had a medical emergency in the middle of the night while staying there - they rushed her to the er vet and truly treated her exactly like I would have. Went on vacation and our neighbor who normally cares for our dogs when we have to go out of town, was unavailable to do so this time. We chose AK because of the good reviews we saw online. The owner of the Kennel, Marilyn, was extremely nice and you could clearly see her love for the animals that are boarded there. However, one of her staff desk clerks, a brunette, was rude, unhelpful and frankly off putting with regards to customer service and keeping track of our shot records that were submitted. It was so unexpected and disturbing, my husband and I wondered if she was prejudiced. In fact, if it wasn't for the fact that we were in a severe time crunch, we would not have left our dogs there because of HER. Not to mention that when our dogs arrived there, they were clean and healthy, however, when we picked them up, 1 week later, both were filthy and I do mean filthy. They also, were heavily congested. Neither of our dogs have have ever been congested in the two years we've owned them. In future, my husband and I will probably choose another facility when we have to go out of town. Based on our first time experience, Ms. Marilyn, the owner, is THE ONLY reason why I am not giving Anchor Kennels a 1 star review. read more

1 Star is 1 to many. We brought our dogs here once before and did not feel very welcome, but were desperate to find a groomer that could groom our Standard Snauzers properly. Once you get past the attitude that works the front desk, the groomer seems to be very qualified. I decided that this might just be the groomer for us so i decided to pay $60 each which seems a little high on price to me, but for a decent groomer okay. So i called for a 2nd appointment and was told the next available slot to schedule the two dogs was 9/28 nearly a two week wait. I was asked to drop the dogs off between 8-10 AM I was dropping my dogs off 25 minutes away from my house and was going to continue in to work. Arrived at 10:10 and was told that i did not make my time slot and would have to reschedule my appointment. Let me see 25 minute drive back home! No dogs being groomed today because i was 10 minutes late from my drop off time after waiting 12 days for my appointment. I think i will reschedule my appointment to NEVER! read more
