On July 8th, I booked a 3/4 day trip for July 20th and also an overnight stay at the Cape Ann Resort hotel. About 11:30 AM on July 19th as I and my son were starting out to the location from New York State, we received a call from Gloucester Fleet confirming the trip. Great! We took pics of the boat that evening. Next morning we head over to the boarding area. My son slept only two hours because he was so excited for the trip. There were no people around which was odd since we were only 20 minutes before the departure time of 7AM. Eventually, we called the Fleet number and spoke to the captain/owner who recalled his wife speaking to me the day before to confirm the trip. But, he had canceled the trip later on because too few customers to justify the fuel expense and called everybody - everybody except us (absolutely no call on my mobile account). So, WE lost money - my two vacation days from work, hotel expense, restaurant dinner, fuel for the trip, all totaled well over $1,000 and also about 8 hours of driving and the huge disappointment. Instead of being very apologetic and perhaps offering a free future trip and covering hotel expense, he said we could drive about 45 minutes (52 minutes per Google) to New Hampshire and if lucky get an 8AM boat that catches mackerel -- or, get this, go whale watching! He said all the other people were understanding -- but they were called the day before. If we'd received the cancelation call there would have been time to rearrange things. Curiously, there was a nearby fishing boat trip from a competitor that was sold out -- no lack of customers. I wonder why...

The boat was clean and well equipped. Captain Kevin and his first mate gave clear and detailed instructions on how to catch the bait, cast in the right spot, and how to hook up when we got a bite. The first mate did a great job of cleaning and filleting our catch. They were especially patient with my wife, who struggled a bit with casting and hooking up with fish. (she ended up catching more than me and the biggest one that had to be released) Captain Kevin's instincts are spot on! He knew exactly when to move us to a new spot, so we never wasted time on the water. Additionally, Captain Kevin's recommendations for dining and local attractions were greatly appreciated. On our first morning, we headed for Gloucester harbor to take in the rich history the town had to offer. We really wanted to see the iconic Wicked Tuna boats so we ate in harbor and waited but no return. Instead of coming down the next day to get pictures, I decided that we should try and fish this historic area. With only one day to plan a fishing trip and my flight leaving back to Cali at 6:30 was a task within it self. we were at dinner when Captain Kevin had called us back stating that it would not be an issue and he would have us back to the harbor by 2 PM. We left the harbor at 5 AM as captain Kevin in lighted us with a deep history and knowledge that he had to offer. His first mate was Tristan, who had recently passed the captains test, was very knowledgeable and was getting us set up for the perfect day. The captain knew everything in the harbor, and everyone. Whole fishing that day, the Captain constantly stayed on the radio to get up-to-date information. After we caught our bait, we headed to the first spot and dropped our lines in the water. After waiting about an hr or so the captain decided to make an executive decision and move to the second location because of the reports on the radio. Once we arrived at our second location and dropped our lines in the water, we immediately saw whale activity. We were trying to get some food in our belly while we had a little time and then BOOM, FISH ON!!! With the captains instructions from earlier, we were all able to communicate and successfully land this fish. With the help of Tristan by my side, and the captain on the controls, we were able to land this fish in an hour and a half. With 1/3 of the line left from being chaffed, we were able to land this bad boy in the boat. She came in at 87 inches and 461 pounds being my best record of all times. If it wasn't for both of these captains and my tuna fishing experience, we could've easily lost her. Upon returning to the harbor, and dropping her off at the market, I was able to keep some head fillets, and the tail and I was off to the airport. I have fished all around the world and if you want true tuna fishing at its best, GO ON THIS BOAT!!! They have giving us an experience of a lifetime and memories for the rest of our life's. It was good to see some small upgrades around the land, starting with a revamp of the parking area and more identifiable main signage to lead you into the park. The Trustees of Reservations segment of the land is now also more clearly delineated, though there is no additional admission charge or anything like that. The trails themselves maintain a timeless and spirited quality that encourages exploration and staying in the moment. The views are certainly something to behold, which I appreciate more now as an adult and needing to make the effort if/when I want to return to these surroundings.

Our group consisted of one adult and two children. About 40 minutes after leaving the dock, one adult and one child became severely seasick, even though all three of us had taken motion sickness medication before the trip. Both of them felt miserable and vomited multiple times during the excursion. The first time someone got sick, the crew member's immediate response was not concern or assistance, but to loudly tell us to "throw it into the water" instead of using a trash can. I understand that cleaning up vomit is unpleasant and that the crew wants to keep the boat clean, so I cooperated and went to the back of the boat whenever necessary. However, throughout the trip, the only thing the crew repeatedly said was, "Throw it into the water!" There was no sympathy, no reassurance, and no effort to check on how we were doing. What upset me even more was what happened when I needed to use the restroom. A crew member attempted to open the restroom door and told me to go outside if I needed to vomit. I clearly explained that I was using the restroom to pee and use the toilet, not because I was vomiting. Despite that, while I was inside, he repeatedly knocked on the door and yelled for me to go outside. At that point, I was already feeling extremely unwell and was also responsible for taking care of two young children. Not a single crew member offered assistance, checked on our condition, or showed any concern. Instead, they continued to focus solely on making sure nobody vomited anywhere except into the ocean. I don't blame the company for the fact that we got seasick. Seasickness is always a possibility when you're out on the water. What I do blame them for is the complete lack of empathy, professionalism, and customer care. It felt as though the crew cared far more about keeping the boat clean than about the well-being of their passengers. For first-time visitors and families with children, don't expect much guidance or support if you run into difficulties. Based on my experience, the overall fishing trip was extremely unpleasant, and I would not recommend it.

Great Sunday morning on the water with Captain Vito!…read more My girlfriend and I took her father out as a planned birthday present and, having grown up fishing and having been on a number of charters before, I was nervous about going out with someone I didn't know and wasn't necessarily recommended to me. But please listen to your friends on Yelp, book a charter, and have a fun time catching fish. We went out for stripers, so we had a go at catching mackerel in the morning to use as bait. It was slow for mackerel, I think we caught four, but it wasn't for lack of trying on Vito's part. He was on the radio all morning looking for hot spots and looking at the fish finder himself, all while we had three lines in the water. We got a few pollock later on as well. Most of the day was spent trolling the shore for what we came for and we hooked into around eight, landing two keepers. We'll be eating fish for the next month, but the best part was the company; Vito included. Vito has been fishing for 30 years (we asked) and you can tell he still loves what he does. Vito is instructive with the equipment to the point where you feel comfortable using something you hadn't seen before an hour ago (one of us hadn't been fishing before). Vito will work as hard as he has to in order to get you on fish and be happy doing it. We'll be back as soon as possible! Thanks again!

During the fight I felt alive, more alive than I have felt in sometime. My oldest Son was with me who is off to college in a few weeks so this was a great moment for us. My group of 4 had a great time, the boat is very clean & comfortable, including a clean bathroom & eating area. They even cooked on the grill for us. My Grammy and I's favorite annual activity is going on a Cape Ann Whale Watch once a summer. We've…read moregone on one almost every summer since I graduated high school eight years ago. The marine biologist on board is knowledgeable and clearly loves her job! It's awesome that the captain is part of the team searching for the whales and is more than willing to change course if we find out there are whales in a different area than planned. Also, the parking lot staff is surprisingly efficient given how many people are coming in and out with such limited space. We have seen multiple whales every trip, and sometimes other sea animals too! My grandmother is 92 (she acts more like she's 75 to be honest) and whenever we go, the staff and other patrons have always been courteous and kind to her without being infantilizing. I am so grateful to Cape Ann Whale Watch for being a part of this special tradition with my Grammy. Fingers crossed that next year we win the raffle for the free tickets! It hasn't happened yet lol.

Once we were out on the water, Lou and Larry worked hard to help us land a catch. They were well prepared with chum to help attract the striper to the boat and explained all the proper techniques. We ended up catching 4 striper over 30 inches and it was great fun. In addition, Lou and Larry were great to talk to and made sure to point out local landmarks and even took us in close to see the fisherman's monument before heading into the dock.
