UPDATE: Since this review has been posted, Deandre has contacted my family multiple times to try to…read morehave this review take down. I guess as a small business owner, you never want to hear that your customer relations and people skills are absolutely terrible. Stay away. Stay far away. If you want any kind of peace of mind while you're away, you will not find it here. Last month, our usual dog-sitter was booked for our vacation so we had to look elsewhere. We found Deandre on Rover, but booked her off of the app so we could make payments since she is quite expensive. I dropped off our three dogs there, and genuinely thought it was a nice area (big yard with space for the dogs), even though the owner seemed pretty scattered. There were other at least three other dogs in her care, including a puppy. She hadn't sent us a contract to sign yet, so upon arrival, I was handed a notebook with my dog's names scribbled in marker that she wanted me to sign. For a long trip, this was a fairly late notice decision on our part, so I didn't think much of it. We leave for our trip and hear very little from Deandre (no pictures or updates), and the next day, she calls my fiancée frantically and says that our (friendly service) dog had bitten another dog badly enough to be taken to the vet, and that our other dog had started a fight. Here's the thing: we were never explicitly aware that our dogs would be playing freely outside in the heat for hours (yep--she said she did that) with dogs they had never met. I saw several dogs there along with several cages, so I had assumed they would be kept separate for extended periods. Our dogs, even the well-behaved one, are total jerks, but they've never been aggressive, though we definitely entertained the possibility that they caused this trouble given the circumstance. With the information we have, we think our dogs have legitimately done something bad, so my fiancée starts asking for some more details, like if we needed to compensate the other dog owner, and the general state of our dogs. Deandre was woefully unable to communicate any context to the situation, and began talking in circles. The phone call ends, and my fiancée texts her some general and very reasonable questions about our dogs (we wanted pictures of them to make sure they were okay) and the situation in general. It's getting pretty late in the day at this point, and Deandre calls back and tries (briefly and poorly) to answer some of the questions. She then says that she doesn't want to keep going back and forth with us, and that we've texted her with too many questions. This is when she goes off the rails. She proceeds to be extremely rude to my partner, and goes on to tout her own capabilities as a caretaker, among many other uncalled for things. We were excessively kind with her and never attacked her ability; we literally just wanted her to update us on the outcome of a situation that our dogs had seemingly caused. This woman has zero communication skills. Our friends were with us while we were on the phone, and all of us were shocked at her behavior. The next day, we inform her that my dad would be coming to sign them out, and that our usual dog-sitter (who had an opening) would be coming to pick them up. We barely heard a word from her. After they were picked up, she didn't offer a refund of any kind for the remainder of their stay (almost a week). She only sent us our money back after we threatened to get an attorney involved. Even then, she shorted us $10 and kept one of the water bowls. If you want to hear the phone call where she loses her mind, let us know.

There is no sense reiterating the entire story here but needless to say, this is not a place I will ever put my dog again. He came back losing a lot of weight because he was nervous with so many dogs there and still hasn't shaken that freaked out look after being home. I don't think the care was bad for the dog, but the care for the human owner was abysmal. I have never been treated like this by anyone in the wonderful town of Blowing Rock. Her husband is friendly and sane. If you really must go here, deal with him. He understood why I was upset and was helpful when I rushed to pick my dog up immediately after an international flight (because of the tone of her voice mails that came in while I was on the plane). Totally baffled by the treatment I got and never going back. As the one leading the creation of a dog park here in BR I will be sure to let all the dog parents here in town know. And I have the whack job voicemails saved for emphasis. Scary and awful. Ruined the last leg of my trip because of worry.

Wow after reading this last person's review from 3 years ago I was surprised. I was looking the…read moreinformation up on this wonderful place to share with a friend that has a dog and was going out of town. I had taken my dog here several times in the past and I couldn't have asked for a better place for my dog to have stayed. If the last person's dog was nervous around other dogs how is the owner to blame for that? I don't know the owner on a personal level at all, I simply know her through the times I had dropped my beloved dog off there. And if she was having an off week or something, I am pretty sure that we all have had one of those. Whether someone is opening a dog park or not in Blowing Rock that does not mean they should use their contact power to try and destroy someone's business on an app like Yelp. So to spread some positivity... do not hesitate to take your four legged family member here. You will not be disappointed. The accommodations are above what you will find anywhere else (trust me I had tried them all) and my dog loved it so much that every time we would pull in the driveway she knew exactly where she was and was excited. Anna was never that way any other time I had taken her someplace when I had to go out of town. I just hope the other posters "personality" didn't prevent the dogs in Blowing Rock from getting a dog park. As Mountain Mama's supposed personality conflict with the past-poster shouldn't prevent your dog from staying at the best doggie daycare and boarding in the high country.
