What a great experience! Had a new roof (28 squares) and a medium siding project. Must say I'm impressed with the sales, project management and installation Teams that made it all happen. Never had to ask about cleaning up as part of the installation crew were on it! All day! Complete project completed in a day and a half. Just like they said it would. And the cost was REALLY good. Salesmen did not include $1000 worth of roofing products in my estimate so the insurance company would not cover it. I had to pay out of pocket. Laborers did not replace fence when they were done and my dogs got out of my yard. Nails and pieces of siding/roofing were left in my yard and driveway. Awful customer service. Had my roof shingled in 2018 and they did an amazing job. This past week a crack appeared in my hallway ceiling and I was freaking out expecting my roof to collapse at any moment. I called Doing It Right Roofing as they did the work and asked if I should be concerned or if this was normal with the temperature changing so dramatically from single digits to 50 degrees... They said the roof was probably fine but would be out later that afternoon to inspect for me. I was so relieved when they arrived, masks on, very professional, and walked me thru the attic and then outside inspection telling me that all was well - it was just a drywall separation. I had a salesperson come out from Doing It Right. They arrived right on time, asked what work I wanted done, etc, and walked around the house for a bit and told me that they would be right back in. Note that they never actually went up on the roof - unlike several other contractors that I've had out between this and my garage project. The salesperson said that their insurance company wouldn't cover them if they had an accident without having a contract. This was kind of surprising to me, and quite honestly felt either like a lie or like they have a crappy insurance policy. Then I sat down and we went over a very detailed contract about everything that would be done. I very much appreciated the detail in the contract, outlining exactly what work would be performed and to what specifications. Some items would be marked N/A, or there might be options that could be checked, such as a california cut/weave valley vs aluminum open cut, etc. I was also showed the really cool software they use to calculate the roof size using satellite imagery and such. They went on and on about their Platinum Preferred status with Owens Corning, giving quite the sales pitch. I was waiting to see how huge the final bid amount was going to be. To my surprise, it wasn't. Actually, it was about *half* the bid amount of another roofer. Well, this all sounded great. I was, of course, skeptical so I read through the contract in more detail. There were a lot of oddities - for instance, they say "California weave" for valleys, but by all accounts online, valleys can either be a "weave" a "cut", a "California cut", or an open valley with a metal channel. So when they say "California weave" it kinda felt like they're leaving open space for if their sub-contractors screw up and do a weave rather than the proper cut. Also, it seems the general consensus is that the metal channel is more durable and doesn't get debris caught in it - so that would cost an additional $200. They couldn't give me clear up-front pricing on how much it would cost to paint/patch/fix the box gutters, if required (again, they didn't go on the roof), so who knows what that could end up costing. I asked some detailed follow-up questions about permits, dumpsters, employee vs sub-contracting, gutters, wood replacement, etc. And when they responded, they told me that my job was going to be too small, under their minimum 10-square size unless I also had them do the porch roof as well. Of course, this would add another $1300 to the cost. Odd that even with their fancy roofing calculating software that they never noticed it was under the 10-square minimum. I had a couple more followup questions, and at this point they got back to me and basically cancelled and said that they weren't the right company, that they don't like to come out to do small city jobs, and had a bunch of excuses. I was super frustrated, because I was leaning towards this company and had spent a decent amount of time researching them, communicating back and forth, and it was for nothing. They new the size of my roof and the location before ever coming out. At the end of the day, I suspect that either the salesperson bid too low for the job and they didn't admit it, or that they didn't actually have the confidence that they could do the job right due to what I think are extremely basic minor roofing complexities such as re-framing and maintaining box gutters (which are very common in Pittsburgh). It's a bummer, but luckily there are other competent contractors to pick between as well - perhaps with a bit more honesty and ability to stick to their bids. read more

Received several quotes from different roofing companies and chose Owens Corning roofing install by Doing It Right. The salesman, Art, answered all my questions when at our home going over all the details and the contract of what goes into a new roof and he even returned my phone call with more questions days later. About a week after install, a different employee comes out to check everything concerning the new roof and he answered any concerns I had and fixed a couple of small issues. Happy with the install and have no issues with the roof after one year. read more

We received couple quotes from different roofing company and picked this one. One thing I heard before for doing home projected was never trust a company that charges you upfront , it doesn't matter full or half. This became a big factor when choosing the roofing company, they do not require upfront deposit you pay after the project is completed. They did a fantastic job on replacing our old roof, we had some leaking issues and that was gone. The sealing and siding were better looking than before. There was only one thing that they could improve on was the after work clean ups. In the contract, they noted that they are responsible for cleaning up the site, get ride of the waste and make sure there is no metal, screws left on the property. Well, we found lots of nails in our yard, front porch and road. They said they have some machine that they use to scan the work site to make sure all the nails are picked up. But that wasn't the case. I wish they can make some improvements on the after work cleaning up, because I am completely satisfied with the roof replacement. read more

We used this contractor for a new roof and gutters. The sales person seemed knowledgeable and the contract impressed my husband as did the quote. But a word of caution, there was a disconnect between the salesman, the contract, the crew leader, who was never on site during the work, and the crew. The gutter installation on our hip roof was sloppy. Corners weren't even. They returned twice to fix a section but didn't use aluminum gutter seal and left debris in other sections. Their work on the gutters calls into question everything they did! read more

I got my roof, skylight, and gutters replaced by them. I also got quotes from 5 different highly rated companies on Home Advisor. I ended picking this company. The whole process with dealing with the sales guy, project manager and installers was painless. They explained everything and over delivered in everything that I was promised. The finished project looked amazing, the price was competitive, the work was done ahead of schedule, and everything was cleaned up properly. I agree with Mark. They do what they want. There is a definite disconnect between the salesman, the contract, the foreman and the workers . I would not doubt if all the work is subcontractred out. In one word, DISAPPOINTED. Doing it Right is more like Doing whatever we want, you'll never notice. We were over sold and under delivered. It might be easiest to break it down to in disappointments. You might assume that everything the salesman told you and appeared to be in writing is true, trust me, it's not. Do not read the sales agreement with the salesman's words in your mind. They do use sub-contractors despite what the salesman tells you. They will install it however they want no matter what the sales agreement states and the installation instructions call for. "Platinum Preferred Contractor" (P.P.C.) is a sales gimmick by Owens Corning (O.C.) to facilitate sales. What's that you ask, the contractor is listed on our web site? That doesn't mean a damn thing. Quality control of installation of their product is none of their concern. We were told verbally and in writing that all O.C. warrants is the shingle against defect, not how it's installed or the labor. The O.C. installation instructions are merely a suggestion for the P.P.C. rather than an actual promise integrity. The complete O.C. package is rouse. The agreement is vague enough for the P.P.C. installer to slip through the loop holes of installation of products and instructions. Products they use may or may not be O.C. systems they say will be installed are optional and are at their discretion. We paid for a roof and got a roof. No more or no less than if hired a stranger off the street corner. Take my advice, buy a GAF shingle and have it installed by someone else. read more
