Definitely an impressive garden maze. Recommend going earlier or later in day as given the location in Oahu can get pretty hot. Major tourist area with large crowds. Recommend quick maze exploration and then grab a Dole whip and skip the train to head out and explore more of the island. read more

As described on their website, "In 2008, Dole Plantation's giant Pineapple Garden Maze was declared the world's largest maze. The Dole Pineapple Garden Maze is located on the right hand side of the iconic plantation style home flying the "Dole" flag on the roof. At the front there is a worker in a booth. There's some awesome AC running in the booth ;D it was nice to feel the blast of cool air while purchasing my ticket. The worker was friendly and made the process pain free. If you're kama'aina show your Hawaii State ID brah. You can also purchase tickets to the different attractions at Dole Plantation here separately or in package deals. On the other side of the worker, within the booth is a time clock that stamps your maze card for the start and finish times. Don't forget to stamp your card! Also grab a golf pencil. Along the fence in the beginning, there was a sign about the phone app "Dole Plantation" to track your progress. Unfortunately, my phone wasn't compatible (Samsung Galaxy S10). It was made for an older version of Android. There are 8 "secret" stations in the maze, one representing each island of Hawaii. There were some facts about each island printed on the boards. I wished the shapes meant something about the island, but they seemed kinds random. Some shapes like the sun and sea urchin look kinda similar so make sure you fill in the right square. As they are bot labeled. Pro tip: Look for a tilted red square shaped board through the greenery, that's the station LOL ;) In some of the pictures from other Yelpers, the boards look very worn down with the images faded and peeling. When I went recently about a week ago, the boards were all very new and fresh. They may have replaced the older worn looking boards. At each station there are stencils with different shapes that you trace onto your card. At the first station, I did this wrong XD I put my card above the stencil and shaded the pencil over it. Sort of the same motion one would do when trying to discover the mystery written message that's imprinted in a notepad. This made an ugly shaded undefined mess on my card. And the pressure from shading created a debossed look. At the second station, I figured out that I could slide the card under the stencil and fill in the shape with my pencil. This made a nicer look on my card. I recommend this method. Note, with how hot the sun is, the plastic boards at the stations also get very hot. And the stencil is made out of metal so even more hot. Be careful not to burn yourself* I did the maze on a Friday, from 12:22pm to 12:57pm. It took me about 35 minutes to complete the whole maze :D There wasn't a lot of people in the maze during the time I went. This was good as some of the paths are very narrow. I definitely recommend closed toe shoes for this maze. I didn't prepare for adventuring that day and wore slippers. While maze-ing around, a wild thorn on the ground went right into my foot x___x it was pretty sharp. I'd also recommend having water with you to drink, as it gets pretty hot walking around. And there's no real estimate on when you'll complete the maze. There were lots of areas with man-made holes/ short cuts created in between the bushes/ shrubs/ plants. I was cutting through a few of these. As trying to follow the exact paths on the map seemed a bit too unpredictable for me. I had to backtrack quite a few times. A lot of the greenery were overgrown with branches sticking into pathways, so I suggest wearing clothes you would be okay with getting caught in branches. Have an a-maze-ing time ;D read more

This was a nice activity to do with the family when it is decent weather especially if you aren't used to the hot weather. Thankfully we went when it wasn't too hot and wasn't raining. You get the options of just doing this individual activity or doing a package with the train and/or garden tour (self guided). We decided to do the package deal with the garden and maze since the train doesn't show the pineapples. The maze is some fun for the whole family to do together or make a competition. Either way is fun. My family did it together and we found most of the hidden spots you can find on the map, but had trouble finding the train. I did this maze over 20 years ago and I don't think it was a Guinness world record holder back then. Now fast forward to 2024 and my husband and oldest kid went inside maze and completed it! Quality/Quantity - This is an event okay to skip unless you have really young kids. Or kids that want to be and act very young. :) My daughter had such positive memories from her childhood at this maze 10 years ago, so she insisted we do it again. She said the maze was bigger the first time, but it is probably because she was much much smaller then. This year, they actually gave you the answers to the maze which made it so much easier!! We did it in less than 40 mins. In the past they had stamps, this year we had to use a pencil and stencil each location. (which was harder, especially because my daughter broke the lead of the pencil on the 2nd stencil). My last visit, can't tell you which season, but it was infested with spiders. This year was not an issue. Atmosphere - World's largest maze. There were a mix of people of all ages, from young kids to teenagers to young adults to parents. Service - This employee did NOT want to be there... Actually 50% of the employees did NOT seem happy, the good news is that the other 50% were GREAT!! Price - $8.75 each. I give ''em credit for the idea and giving kids (and adult kids) something to do to burn off energy, but: * QR scan codes to download the much advertised app didn't work. * Manually downloading the app for Android (app didn't work on android version 13)*and iPhone wasn't easy either because it wasn't under Dole Plantation. *.The maze idea is cute, but by midday it was too dang hot to throw myself into a maze. Of course I went here as a tourist and now I am going to complain that it's a tourist trap. The train ride was super slow, my toddler was super excited but the novelty died within 10 mins because the train was going maybe 5mph. I went during January so not sure if this was out-of-season but the fields were looking pretty sad. The best part of this place was the dole whip ice cream which you can just walk in and buy. We didn't bother doing the maze or the garden walk because it was getting a bit hot. read more

Don't waste your time here. My recommendation would be to grab the dole whip at the Express truck out front and maybe walk through the pineapples growing in the planter at the center. The dole whip is pretty good sized and great with fresh pineapple and coconut. The train is reasonably priced, but certainly not worth it. We waited over and hour despite the posted 45 minute wait. The first section of the wait is out in the sun and the second piece allows no food or drinks. It would be nice to be able to enjoy the snacks or even some water in line. It's advertised as a 22 minute 2 mile tour; however, you turn around half way and see the same things. There's also not much to the tour and the play music for 1/4 of the ride. It's also very hard to see the plants. The inside is just a giant gift shop. At the chocolate show inside, they show a video that last a couple minutes and then give you a dime size taste of dark chocolate. There's no real demonstration or experience. We didn't bother to stay another 30 mins to see the pineapple demonstration. read more

Price was reasonable. The ticket Line wasn't too long and it wasn't that crowded inside the maze on the weekend. There are 8 stations to find in the maze. We found all 8 and exited in about 35 minutes without rushing. It is the "largest maze in the world." It was pretty well kept and had benches and trash cans throughout. a-MAZE-d I'll be honest to say that I would have ventured to try this maze were it not for some guests visiting from the mainland. And though it was somewhat fun navigating the maze, this was a first and last visit for this local resident. LOCATION: On the grounds of the Dole Plantation in Wahiawa. Free parking available. FUN FACTS (taken from the map provided): 1. Created in 1997. 2. Expanded in 2007 3. Area is 3.15 acres 4. 2.46 miles of pathway 5. Comprised of 14,000 local Hawaiian plants. PRICE: Adults: $7, Kama'aina: $6 (local ID needed). There is a ticket booth at the entrance, where one can purchase tickets solely for the maze or tickets for the maze and dole plantation train. The ticket booth has only room for a single employee, therefore please be patient while waiting in line. The basic premise of the maze is to find the eight stations placed within the maze. The stations represent the eight main Hawaiian Islands. The staff at the ticket booth will provide you with a map of the maze, with the locations of the stations, as well as a card that has eight boxes in which to trace the stencils found at each of the stations. For the more tech savy visitor, there is a QR-Code at each station as well; not sure what app or name of the app needed unfortunately. TIPS: 1. Use sunscreen as you'll be entirely in the sun, there's no shade within the maze. 2. Wear comfortable footwear. We took about 45 minutes to find all the stations within the maze. The maze was very muddy and wet the day we visited (Christmas Eve), and there were many, many puddles along the paths. There were signs at the entrance warning visitors of the wet conditions. I daresay our time would have been shorter if we hadn't needed to take extra time to walk around/avoid the puddles. BOTTOM LINE: A fun time overall. It was a challenge at times to navigate our way to find the stations. Personally, I would NOT attempt the maze if its wet and muddy. read more

We've done the train ride on the Dole Plantation so this visit we wanted to do the maze. Glad we did, it gave my kids a non-water activity to enjoy. And they did. When you give kids a map and a mystery to solve, it becomes FUN! It needs a little sprucing but we enjoyed the 1 hour entertainment on the maze while eating our dole whip and taking in the fresh air. If you know how to have a good time, the maze is the best part of the Dole Plantation, hands down! You can just wander through it at your own pace, or you can split into teams and compete with each other, kind of like The Amazing Race - that is what I recommend doing. They give each person a card that you use to locate eight landmarks within the maze. Each landmark has something to do with each Hawaiian island. When you find one, you use the stencil to trace the shape onto your card to prove you found it, then you race back to the entrance and wait for the losers, LOL! P.S. - my team WON!!! WOOT WOOT! It's a good place to see pineapples that aren't in a grocery store. I never knew pineapples grew on the floor until now; totally a learning experience for me. There are rides where you can take to tour around the plantation and maze but you have to buy the tickets. Now onto the food court and store. The store has a lot of pineapple related items, from chocolate covered pineapples, to dried pineapples, to pineapple shaped earrings. Their dole whip is a must, reminds me of Disneyland. I'd personally rate the maze, itself, as maybe a 3 or 3.5. I agree with another Yelper who said it could use a little sprucing up. That said, our 5 grandchildren thought it was fun. My family and I arrived at the Dole Plantation a little after 4 o'clock. Everyone was looking forward to doing the maze. Upon arrival, my husband promptly went straight over to the Maze Ticket Booth to double check on their closing time. The older lady at the Maze Ticket Booth specifically said they would be open until 4:55 pm. We wanted to buy the tickets then have the kids go make a quick restroom stop before starting the maze but the Ticket Booth lady wouldn't sell us the tickets until we are all ready to start. So we took the kids to use the restrooms before headed back to the maze. When we returned to the ticket booth with all of the kids at 4:45 pm she said she stopped selling tickets at 4:45 pm. Then we pointed out that it is 4:45 pm now and why isn't she selling us the tickets? Then she proceeded saying "no it's 4:46 pm now so it is past the time" ...4:46pm!?! Are you kidding me we thought to ourselves!?! We even reminded her we were just here and checked with her on the ticket time then she repeated "I stopped selling tickets at 4:45 pm". Then she proceeded stating "even if I sold you the tickets you won't finish everything since you have too many kids with you"!?! I have never been so insulted and humiliated at the same time!! I've been to the Dole Plantation many times before but by far this is really the worst ever!!! Everything they have here is costly and expensive yet they don't have the decency to provide a good let alone decent customer service!?! This is truly a horrible way to treat their customers!!! It's no wonder some of our friends warned us before coming here that the customer services here are going downhill and have been really bad. You can count on that neither our friends, families nor ourselves will ever come back. If you are super patient and do not mind super bad management, you will enjoy this trip mainly for their train ride and the pineapple ice cream. Otherwise take couple of blood pressure pills before heading there. Parking: unless you arrive early parking is packed. I found a spot on the left side way back. Train ride: if you are a tough Disney guru used to long hour waits with little remorse of the management you might be able to sustain. They told us 2 hours wait. The line is under direct sunlight with no shade we ended up waiting 3 hours in the line. There was an incident that they had to switch a train. They simply asked onboard folks who waited in the line for hours to just depart the train. They were also hesitant to reimburse them ‍ one group who lost their receipt but had tickets in hand was asked to just leave the ticketing booth (by the way the booth also has a line mostly under sunlight too!) To add salt to the injury, there was zero communication from their side to the folks waiting patiently in the line. I had multiple impulses to say f**k it all and leave the line. Couple of folks talked with the staff. They had no empathy towards the poor visitors. Take it or leave it I wondered why this train takes so much time. It had many seats Once I started getting on the train I was shocked to see that for each group they ask them to take a photo in hope of selling it for some hefty price. The photo taking process added a lot of waiting unnecessarily and as you guessed there was little interest in such photos but the management preferred making some extra bucks in cost of long waits for customers under the sun They also run one train at the time. There was no sense of agility at all. The train waited for several minutes idle while the driver was taking pictures from some folks in line. I even heard that staff were discussing who should drive this one maybe they get bonus for longer wait time, I eas not sure . Finally due to COVID they left one row between each group. Did they realize the long line with people breathing on each other's neck!? It felt they purposefully wanted you to suffer and sync as much as time as possible. The train ride itself was fun and it took 20 minutes. You will see various plants: , Cacao, coffee, Food (mainly ice cream): lines are crazy! The benefit compared to the train is that it has A/C. If you read so far, here is a golden tip: there are three lanes for ordering. Two are visible with very long queues. There is a third line in the back left. Go for that one. It can save you a lot of time. Again the management did not fail to impress you with its mismanagement. Each counter is responsible for: taking order, payment AND dessert preparation and delivery! Yup you heard it right. The lines are often crazy long because some genius decided to not separate the dessert preparation from payment and ordering. So the whole line will wait for the single person handling the line to open the cherry box, put one patiently on the top of the ice cream and close the box The ice cream is super delicious though. Highly recommend the whipped bowl with pineapple on the side. If you want to go for something bigger go for the waffle one. The split boat is a monster. Surprisingly the teriyaki chicken lunch that I ordered was also good. Management: aside from the failures mentioned above, in general you should be prepared to face attitude there. Do not think of as a welcomed guest. The staff is overworked with poor management and are not happy either. Staff can get rude easily if you are doing something not in line with the guidelines. Bottom line: I would go there once. I will not return. If you plan to go, go early right after opening. Bring a lot of patience, meditation and sunscreen . The worlds largest outdoor maze! I've been living in Hawaii for a long time and I've never done the maze after all the times I've visited Dole Plantation. Well my wife finally convinced me to go. If you don't know where Dole Plantation is, it's on the wait to North Shore. Just follow your GPS and you really can't miss it. Parking is always tight when you go to Dole. But you should be able to find one. I always just go straight to the back. They have military and kama'aina discount for the maze. I didn't think we'd finish the maze in about 30 minutes but we did. You have 8 stations to get to and you can either download an app or use the map that they give you to stencil in the symbols at each station. The stations were really that hard to find. You'll notice when you're in the maze that there are some walls that you can walk through. We didn't know if they were part of the maze or not but we went through them anyway. The wall are made from the greenery and huge bushes pretty much. Make sure you have a pencil with you if you're not going to use the app. The maze isn't covered so make sure you put on some sunscreen or you're gonna get dark. Overall, I think the maze was ok. But I'm that big on mazes. I think if you have kids, this might be fun to take them on but would I go back. Probably not, being that I know where all the stations are. read more

This was a lot different than I expected. It's not the usual maze, meaning you enter at one location and leave at another. No, you enter in one place and leave at the exact same place. It's more of a fun zone and gives you an excuse to wonder around aimlessly for some time. There are chickens and roosters here, but then again they are everywhere on the island. As well as cats. Oahu has a ton of cats! You're supposed to find a bunch of local little trinkets during the maze, but I didn't really care. It was humid and I was sweating, so I got a little bit of a workout in the process. Overall, it was worth trying once, but after getting the bragging rights, I really wouldn't care to go again. read more

Although aimed more for children, the maze is an equally fun way for adults to kill some time at the Dole Plantation. Touted as the "World's Largest Maze", the actual maze itself doesn't seem all that massive once you are inside. However, it is pretty well maintained and beautiful. Lined with trees and a variety of different vegetation throughout, you feel like you are going through a pretty legit garden maze that you had only dreamed about in your childhood dreams. The basic set up for the maze is that you have eight blank spots on a tickets, and you are tasked with finding the stamps hidden throughout the maze in the fastest time. Perhaps one of the biggest downsides of the challenge is that they actually provide the location of all the stamp stations on one of the sheets! Therefore, as an adult, I didn't think it was all too challenging. However, I do think it may still be a good challenge for children especially since they come from an age where they are used to using their phones to guide them directly to their destinations. Yet, what makes my several trips here enjoyable is when I have done the maze as a race against my friends! It is an "Amazing Race" style challenge where we see who can get all the stamps in the fastest time. The winners? Bragging rights and free dole whip!!! As for some notes, please be mindful of the weather! I have gone when it has been super hot and there has been rain. You may go into it thinking you are some hot shot who will finish it early but be prepared!!! They do at least have a vending machine at the beginning if you are stuck on one of those hot days. Plus, make sure you get a pencil for you or your group. This is important for the stamp. You need to stick your ticket in and then use the pencil to draw out the stencil. Overall, I wouldn't really recommend this for adults unless you have another group that you can challenge. My husband and I did the maze in our "honeymoon" days, so this time we just let our little one wander wherever he wanted to go. When my husband and I ran the maze looking for the stations, it was a lot of fun. I see now that they have online tools to help you find all the stations, but that's no fun. Running it with my son was fun, but it was sad to see so much trash on the grounds. Seriously people?! After the maze, we stopped inside to get some of their famous Dole Whip. My husband got the float. Both, of course, was good. Of course it was a little pricey for what it was, but I guess you are paying for the whole experience. Driving by and saw this place. Stopped by for a quick check out. I am glad I did. Parking was ample and super easy to park. Safe to park as well. The place is well-kept and when I was there, there were a lot of visitors. There are also many shops, restaurants, ice cream places around the area. There were available tours as well. I saw many tour guides giving history of the place and included in the tour package. I was just stopping by so I was not prepared to join the tours. The food was great in most places. Decent prices for all of them. Again, the place was well kept. I toured the Garden Maze and it was super fun. I would highly recommend if you are traveling with family or children. I've been to Dole Plantation tons of times and honestly didn't think I would find the maze exciting at all. This time was a little different- perhaps it was a feeling of competition and my competitive streak appeared! So off we went with a reasonable $7 for admission and into the bottom of the maze we were placed. While there are 7 keys to find, we immediately started to navigate our way through it all. Honestly, we were in a rush to get through so we must have finished the maze in 20 mins? And yes, we found all 7 locations. Our family decided to go to the plantation a couple of days ago. We did the maze and had a great time. My two boys loved going through the maze and finding each of the 8 secret stations! We finished the day with dole whip waffle cones which are always a hit! read more

Pros: Nice landscape, pretty photo opps, clean paths, wildlife (chickens, roosters, peacocks, etc). Cons: Kinda a rip off, short course, no markings for where I was in the maze, unorganized map, gates that you think are the way out are not at all (ended up on the train tracks) and this maze was in a world record back in the 2008 Note: I'm comparing this maze to the "World's largest corn maze" in Dixon, California. Expect a Disneyland-esque experience, but not quite as fun (at least for adults). Bottom-line: NOT a-MAZE-ing. read more
