After this wild workout everyone got a little paper bag full of tuck shops sweets, it was great! After the ice-skating my dad usually took us to the swimming pool, the river rapids were my favourite part and I could swim here for hours. I particularly remember the scary red dragon statue and the cave men who looked down on your when you were swimming round the pool, one of them was wielding a spear which I have to admit, was a little bit scary. They also have a huge play area with ball pools, slides, climbing walls - it just looks amazing. Unfortunately, my parents never let me go here and I feel that I've missed out. At the moment the play area pool is closed for major refurbishment, who knows what it will look like when it's finished? I think I might take a trip back soon for good old times sakes. A fantastic day out for all the family!

My mum also said this is where she used to take me when I was a baby so my memory of what it looked like years ago is very much a blur. When I entered it looked like a brand new centre but I heard it'd been recently done up and probably for the International Children's Games (ICG) Lanarkshire 2011. This is why I ended up here to film the swimming competitons. The staff where very helpful and the event was very well organised. I thought "how come they didnae use Blantyre Sports Centre?" but when you see the Dollan it's understandable. It was able to cope with the many children involved and that was many. They had plenty of space for changing and they have lots of seats for spectators, it really felt like I was at the Olympics as it had the look and vibe. They have a cafe in the foyer and I was looking for a room where I could upload my footage I had filmed and a kind member of staff offered me a studio. The studio looked like a dance/fitness studio and was a good size and there was some children using it for storing their stuff. I thought it was just a swimming pool but looks like it has more. I think I'll have to go again and I think I'll go with my mum, bring back some memories for her but this time with her grown up baby.

Well, if you're expecting something special, don't hold your breath, unless you're swimming under the water. It's really just had a lick of paint, and they've probably strengthened the big concrete supports too. The two chutes are only open at the weekend so during the week you'll have to check what times the pool is open as they shut it at certain times for swimming clubs and lesson classes. One new thing that I did notice is the big pool divider. They can shut a big gate half way along the pool to make it into two half pools. That's it I'm afraid. We've decided that we are still going to go down to the Aqua centre in Hamilton. It's just much more interesting and fun.

The facilities in here are fantastic. Huge changing rooms with televisions and decent sized lockers, a huge pool that's very rarely busy, an even bigger gym that is fully equipped with anything you could want to use to build muscle or lose weight, and a fantastic restaurant/cafe that has a fully stocked bar and a full menu (mostly of healthy foods!). The staff here are honesty second to none! They are always on hand to lend you help or advice into what you should be doing to work towards your aims. This is obviously a private gym with a hefty membership price for myself at £45 per month (This is the 18 to 25 plan) this comes with unlimited use of the pool and gym. All I need to be honest. I think at this price it keeps away the idiots who go in and flex there muscles till there bulging out of there arms and stare at you because your big or small. The members here are all there for the same reason, to get fit therefore I dont feel intimidated at all when I look at other guys my age who have bodies which should be in the weekly edition of Mens Health magazine. With a glorious pool, which is NEVER busy. Busiest I've seen has been 10 people in the pool. On a weekday at lunch time you can almost be guaranteed to get the pool to yourself. Steam room and sauna are also very popular with all members, the sauna is much more frequently visited by hairy men and the steam room more visited by the Hamilton football club! Only thing, the changing rooms are all communal. This dosent bother me, but it may bother others. The cafè which looks onto the pool is incredibly reasonably priced and tastes good! Steak for £5.80...WHIT!? Tastes amazing though! And the strawberry split smoothie is to die for! I'd highly recommend this to anyone wanting to get fit or tone up or what ever :) Great fun!

The ice rink has since been done away with and replaced with a really good gym, probably the biggest and best in North Lanarkshire. The swimming pool is a fun pool, barely a metre deep and only good for splishy splashy times, not a proper swim. They have a good health suite with a sauna and steam room where, despite the signs about NOT shaving, there are always hairy old men shaving. The pool is rarely busy aside from summer time when kids under 16 can swim free when it is bedlam. The gym, as I said, is ace. There is at least two of everything so you are guaranteed to get a shot of whatever it is you are wanting to use, with some really modern equipment. The 'gym music' can be really loud which drowns out my own work out playlists much to my annoyance, but other than that, there isn't much to fault the place. A busy place.

I was a member here for a while, so let me explain, for a student it is only £15 a month and you can with that use any of the North Lanarkshire gyms. When you join you are given an induction with a personal trainer, who writes you a workout card to your specific needs and goals. You can use the gym at any time with a membership and get a place on any of the classes, spin, body pump, you name it, its free. You will need to book the week before though becasue they get filled up quite quick. If you do not want to to join as a member I think the original induction is around £8, and the n subsequent visits are maybe £3 something. So after a few visits you are better just becoming a member.

If you have an East Renfrewshire Council Access All Areas card (library card) you get a discount on entry or any if the PAYG monthly memberships. The swimming pool varies between a pleasure and a torture. I've given up trying to do a decent number of lengths in a decent time as the only time the pool is open that I can attend are immediately after work or Saturday morning. There are always swimming lessons on during the week (group taking up 2 lanes, individual ones across the pool) and on a Saturday morning it's mobbed with pensioners who want to stand in the middle of the pool and talk rather than swim. The main pool will become busier and busier due to recent manpower cuts closing the kids/learning pool at peak times. The changing facilities are good and secure. Lockers mostly work with the obligatory dodgy 2 or 3. Mothers of kids learning to swim tend to occupy entire swathes of cubicles closer to the pool and the pool side showers which can be a bit intimidating as a single bloke. I use the health suite more than the pool and it's of a decent standard. The sauna has recently been refurbished and looks good. The steam room seems to need almost constant maintenance and every once in a while the forget to switch it on. No compensation for lost days either! I've never used the gym but it looks busy and I hear there are plans to expand it but God only knows where! There are often running and cycling classes taken place in and around the leisure centre. All-in-all it's ok but needs improvement.
