It feels kind of weird to be reviewing a Dollar General. After all, we all know what to expect. We…read moreexpect a weathered interior, semi-personable employees, generally low prices (except in those areas where DG is the closest thing to a food market), and a generally mid-range experience at best. I have low expectations of Dollar General, though that may be because I live in a neighborhood where an employee was actually killed in one. So, let me tell you that I was completely surprised when I discovered this gem of a Dollar General right on the line between Danville, New Winchester, and Coatesville. This is not the Danville DG, also a better than expected one. This is out on SR 75 right off U.S. 36 not long before you start the winding turns into Heritage Lake. This is a fairly recent, free-standing DG that is really a DG Market (meaning it has more food items and fresh produce). As you turn in, it has two accessible parking spots. There are also automatic doors as you enter. This location offers fresh produce, Amerigas, and DG Finds. It's a well laid out store. It's clean. It's really, really clean. Heritage Lake is sort of on the edge of Hendricks and Putnam Counties. It's a great location, however, you pretty much either have to go to Greencastle or Danville to get many conveniences including groceries (though Instacart, I learned, will deliver to the lake). Dollar General, on the other hand, is only a few minute drive and it tends to have many of the necessities. I have stopped at this Dollar General while visiting my parents' home and to pick up some items for a nephew. While I'm not a smoker, he is and DG carries his brand. I believe it's an in-house brand as they seem to be the only ones who carry it. The employees here are super friendly and helpful. They card smokers (or those buying cigarettes), including this guy in his 50s who looks like a guy in his 50s. The selection here is great. The customers are even friendly here. I can't tell you the number of times I've been offered help with the wheelchair. This also one of those locations where people who don't need accessible parking don't use it. In fact, most drive bigger trucks and tend to park away from the building. This is simply one of the better DG locations I've encountered. I'm not quite willing to go with a 5-star, however, with friendly and helpful employees, a pleasant atmosphere, and good prices I have to say I actually enjoy stopping here. While it's sure not a destination spot (don't race into your vehicles to check out the New Winchester Dollar General), if you're in the area this hidden gem in an area with not a lot of retail options is a good place to stop to get the basics.

EVERY time I go to this store (at the time I need to go) it's closed. It says they're open until…read more9pm. That's a lie. They close and lock the doors between 840-845pm. It would have taken me THREE minutes to get what I needed for my SICK cat but NO it was,.of course, CLOSED. To make it worse , the dude saw me coming up and he STILL locked the door and it wasnt even 845p yet. It's BS. IT SAYS YOU ARE OPEN UNTIL 9PM YOU DONT LOCK THE DOOR UNTIL 5 MIN BEFORE THAT. if the extra 13 minutes is really going to kill you or cause dramatic street on your life GO GET A DIFFERENT job where YOU don't have to close the store. Be an opener instead of a closer. There's SEVERAL customers you have inconvenienced by doing this. And it's EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. luckily we have a other on in town that's likes to stay open until TEN pm and doesn't close their doors at 945p. They treat the customer how they should be treated. Keep on doing what you're doing.

I was looking at some make up and skin care to find a new mascara, and she was yelling and saying watch out there's a girl playing with make up I was not playing with no make up. Then she asked the other people I was with are you guys going to purchase anything and yelled it we said no, we were just looking and she was very judgmental. then later on, she was talking with one of her coworkers and thought we were stealing. When we were leaving, she was standing by the door with her arms crossed, staring at us. We were very confused and I would rate this experience horrible do not purchasebybug iguana

This store has been recently remodeled in April of this year. I'm not sure if all Dollar General's…read morewill refocus more on groceries and health care items or just this store. The grocery areas have been greatly expanded. Fresh produce is now available. The freezers and refrigerated areas are hugely expanded as well. Triple the amount of both freezers and refrigerators and you have some idea. The sign says expanded health care but I couldn't really tell but then I didn't peruse those aisles. They got rid of clothes to gain space for the additions. These improvements make a lot of sense for this area. The nearest grocery store is over five miles away.

This is my first venture into a Dollar General store. When you are in desperate need of something,…read morethey probably have it. And they are the closest store servicing the lakes for miles around. We have picked up everything from a space heater to ice cream. They carry some name brands such as Starbucks. Prices are a little higher for the local convenience. The store located at the Nineveh Road entrance to Princes Lake is a new addition this year. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Great to have this store in the area. Sell things like groceries as well as other home goods.read more
