Visiting the Wagon Yard was near perfect on a recent trip to Granbury. Allow me to explain. South of North Texas you'll find in recent years newly made in Mexico metal signs with minimal tack weld featuring everything from Longhorns, Aggies, Wine, Bar's open...etc. Point being I found every room unique and a bit above the norm for Texas kitsch. Ok, a few things are a carbon copy. Yet, I found some excellent pottery and signs that I haven't seen before. Alot of aviation options, and furniture that seems to be from the area with options for customization. Glad I took a stroll a half block of the square and visited the Wagon Yard.

It has a good central design, with a nice grass buffer between the centerpiece courthouse and the parking area (there is more parking, and public restrooms, behind the Opera House). A statue of General Granbury proudly stands in one corner. There are numerous shops and restaurants to explore, as well other interests a short walk away (bed and breakfasts, an art gallery, a library and the old jail). The public beach is also walkable from the square, making for a nice walk to see the water or perhaps to look at some of the bed and breakfasts (there are B&B options on the square, and also walking distance from the square). The plaza is home to many event throughout the year. During these times the parking lot is used for vendors and entertainment, and makes for a lovely way to spend the day. You just don't see places like this too often…read more While walking around Granbury Square I kept recalling the iconic scenes from the Back to the Future movies of the clock tower and its surroundings. That's what you get here--old-style architecture and a small-town vibe that, if just for a moment, makes you feel like you've been transported back in time. The square is full of shops and restaurants and even a B&B. And there is a beautiful courthouse at its center. If you're in the area, be sure to check out this unique a charming little spot where the buildings all look as if they've been kept just how they were originally constructed in the late 1800s.

There is also a variety of unusual jewelry made just for their shop. There are all kinds of bird cages, antique signs, home décor and more-including a pickup door from the early 1900's. No matter how I explain what the shop has to offer, it would not do it justice. Not only is the collection unique but as my husband said, the gentlemen has an eye for grouping collections in the most beautiful way. He also has an eye for taking old doors and decorating them to be part of your home décor. These alone are worth the trip!

Our group of 7 each found something, from vintage watches, rings, necklaces, earrings, Asian, African, Catholic, Christian, Buddism, Victorian, 70s, 80s, 90s, Mermaid...and so many more. We spent over an hour picking jewelry. There is a daily sales board right at the front, so you can save even more off the very reasonable vendor prices. There is a selection of furniture, books, and other items but to be honest we never made it past the vintage jewelry section. I spent less then $30 for 2 earrings, 2 bracelets, and 2 necklaces. I have gotten compliments on them already Highly recommend visiting!!

Every once in a while a need an inexpensive item that I plan to use and throw away. While I'm generally disappointed with the Dollar Tree closer to home, this one is cleaner, bigger, has wider aisles and generally less of a line. I As said, I too am intrigued by the number of surprising items that can be found here. If you are tires of paying $3 or $4 for a greeting card or gift bag, why not try Dollar Tree where they are usually 1 or 2 for a dollar. Oh, plastic storage bags are a good buy here too. So bottom line: There is something here you can use, and it's only going to cost you a buck (or less), unlike those other stores with "Dollar" in the name.
