In Virginia, the road is Princess Anne Rd. and changes to Knotts Island Rd. when you enter North Carolina. My visit here was on May 2, 2024. I haven't been down to Knotts Island in quite a while. My neighbor gave me the idea to come down here to get gas for the lawn mower as they sell pure gas (non-ethanol). Coming down from Virginia Beach, it does take some time, but I am glad I came down here. When I first came up to the place, I could tell it looked more like an "old school" gas station. It felt like a bit of history. When I came inside, I was surprised that it was more than a gas station or convenience store. There is a limited supply of this gas, so there is a limit to how much you can get. You will have to pay for gas inside. The attendant inside will hold your credit/debit card while you get the gas and then will charge the actual amount at that time. Gas is available on a first come, first serve basis, so be sure to contact the store ahead of time to ensure gas is available. The area is pretty quiet, so there isn't much to choose from, but there is a lot of natural beauty around. This store looks to be more of a general store and grocery store as you can get fresh produce, etc. Think of this place as an elevated convenience store with much more options than a typical convenience store. Overall, my experience was great here. I'm glad my neighbor told me about this place, and I will look to do this in the future as well. I love the small town vibe to the place. If you are in this area, this place is worth checking out, whether it is for gas or other general items. This is the prime example of supporting a local business.

I checked out a number of shops in Duck and was sorely disappointed. Most shirts were $20+ and/or had really lame designs. This shop allows you to pick a shirt of any color, choose your design, and have it imprinted...all for $11! The process only takes a few minutes. I found great deals on PJ's socks and gift bags. They had Christmas sweaters as well all were percentages off... Christmas Eve! I am sure their pickings were plentiful when the season approached and for that reason alone this will be my first stop next year the day after Thanksgiving! The lines were were pretty long, but the cashiers moved the lines quite swiftly. If you don't mind shopping in clutter or searching high and low for deals, then this is the place for you! Gray's Department Store is one of the nicest clothing stores on the Outer Banks and it has been in business for many decades. The store features mostly clothes for men and women and they sell brands like Tommy Bahama, Olukai, Sperry and Vera Bradley. In addition to beachy clothes and resort ware they have some shoes, handbags and accessories for adults. They also have some items for children like stuffed toys, books and such. Aside from nicer name-brand clothing, they also have some Outer Banks gear. They definitely have a higher quality selection of tshirts, sweatshirts and fleece jackets than any other store. Other items they carry include cards, puzzles and I think even taffy. The store is clean and well organized but a bit picked over in October, as should be expected.

They had sketchers sneakers, name brand power tools, boat shoes of all different colors and sizes and a WHOLE room just for purses.
