What can I say... It's Food Lion grocery store & a really big one at that! It's the only big grocery store in town, lol, & this baby is enormous but this is where everyone goes to shop to stock their beach house. On that note Saturdays and Sundays are always busier because that's when rentals begin and end so if you can avoid those days, the line won't be quite as bad for check out. You can get everything here that you can find at any other grocery store and then some! They have a large selection of beach stuff too, which is a huge plus. So go get all your food, toiletries, beach goodies, wine & beer, and any other necessities you may need to stock that house and then go get your butt on that beach, toes in the sand, drink in hand and have fun! read more

Came here a bunch during our weeklong vacation in Corolla. If it can be avoided, come here on weekdays when the lines aren't as long. They sell just about everything, which is great when the house you rented supplies you with basically nothing. Their wine selection is actually amazing. And their beer selection is nothing to sneeze at. The one thing I hated (that I noticed about most of the stores in OBX) was that their grocery bags HAVE NO HANDLES. It's the most annoying thing ever. Can someone in North Carolina invent handles please?? read more

What a chaotic store! It seems like everyone in the area is constantly at this grocery store. The aisles are way too small for the volume of people in the place. Other than it being crazy packed all the time it was an average grocery store. The beer section was decent with lots of local options. Make sure to go to the aisles for things as the end caps and front of the store are selling the higher priced items. read more

As the other reviewers say, this just ain't Harris Teeter. But most of the time I've gone here I've been able to get what I need and the cashier's seem pretty nice. One time I wanted andouille sausage to make my jambalaya but they didn't have any. Of course Harris Teeter did. I can't knock Food Lion, though. It's like that nice girl (or guy) in school who is kind of cute but not a stone cold fox. You could do worse than to go out on a date with that one, and you'll probably end up marrying someone like him or her, even if your heart will still belong to Harris Teeter. Just don't text Harris Teeter when you're drunk, saying you made a huge mistake in marrying Food Lion. That's just not cool, bro. read more

One tip: Do not come here on Saturday or Sunday evening. The place is packed and supplies are low. During the day during the week, the place was better for shopping. Prices are a little lowered here than Harris Teeter. Download a food lion card to your phone and get the deals. read more

If you're in the OBX and need to go grocery shopping, bypass the expensive Harris Teeter and go down about a mile to the Food Lion. This store is much more reasonably priced. They have a rather large alcoholic beverage aisle and they had all of our grocery store needs. Since we had a household of 19, in a 7 day time span, we had to come back at least 4 times. Everything was always fully stocked and it was never a rush of people holding up lines or in the way. The staff we encountered were all friendly and they even had 2 baggers per register working, in order to get the customers out quickly. It's a quick and conveniently located grocery store that doesn't jack up the prices. What more do you need?!?! read more

Ok, I take it back from my original review. I saw the mobs this time and I have to say that it was irritating. The mob made grocery shopping a pain in the rear this time around. Luckily for us we only stopped to pick up a few items to do us over until the next day and we made our way back to the house. Typical 24 hour grocery store. Get their version of their loyalty card and make sure to use it throughout the store as well as the coupon kiosk at the front of the store. It's a grocery store. Nothing special... But it's more than that. To be as well stocked as they are in such a busy tourist area is a definite feather in their collective caps. Very nice selection of fresh meat and produce for hungry vacationers as well as locals. The deli is solid and the rest of their offerings are as well. Your options around here are either this Food Lion or Harris Teeter down the road. HT seemed to have a larger selection of items but Food Lion had what we were looking for on this visit. I didn't think the prices were too bad, but we do have a loyalty card. The cashier was friendly and we were in and out in just a few minutes. read more

Gotta love a 24 hr operation, with a Russian twist to it. I think every employee in this location for the exception of 3 are Russian. It's Red Dawn all over again If you don't know, its a movie where the Russians and Cubans invaded a town in Colorodo. (R.I.P. Patrick Swayze as I scream WOLVERINE!!) This grocery store is pretty big, wide lanes , bright and if you run low on beer at 2 am just cruise on in for a case. Somewhat good selections to choose from , enough to get you by before the brew thru opens . Seeing I am from up north, PA/NJ area we don't have these kind of stores where you can buy beer and wine with the potato salad. The prices in here if you don't have a Food Lion MVP card can be ridiculous. I found something amusing I had asked my Russian beauty Ivana what the difference between a "Southern Potato Salad" and an "American Potato Salad" ? The response I got was Ivana reading off the ingredients, I guess she didn't understand , because she told me they are both good, but she only had the "American " version. Its cool I'm on vacation I didn't care, just my curiosity . Oh and by the way it has mustard mixed in it, now is it a spicy or sweet? I don't know. The steak selections with different cuts wasn't the greatest I've seen. Basically the window of time you have to do a set up with their butcher is tricky, says one thing but don't go by it. Rolling the dice on that call , if you don't catch the butcher while he is there you won't see him till the next day. The produce here looked suspect, not the greenest of greens, small tomatoes.. basically one size and that's it. When renting a house on vacation you always venture to the grocery store to get snacks, breakfast, etc. and I was no different in doing that. The store was very busy even though it was the Fall season. Parking was easy but, all the shelves were pretty picked over and the store was in a bit of a disarray. I have been in this location in the summer time as well and it seemed to be better stocked and cleaner than it was in the Fall with less people vacationing. Of course you will pay higher premiums for everything here since it's a vacation zone but, you can find everything you need or forgot so I guess that's the price you pay. You can purchase beach items here as well that are lower priced than any of the Wing's stores on the islands so that is a plus. The grocery store is always a necessary evil so you have to take what you can get. read more

Not the best grocery store in town. Packed, aisles stocked randomly (items that don't go together, so it's hard to find things), and limited items and brands available. The store-brand food items were also all pretty bad: Italian dressing and salsa were both basically thrown out. Save yourself a trip and head over to Harris Teeter instead! read more

This is essentially your last chance to get what you need before leaving civilization and heading to your beach house on the 4x4 beach. First things first if your going to a beach house alcohol is at the top of the list and this place has a surprisingly huge list of favorites. From your favorite flavored waters like Coors light and miller light to your grown man beers like Oculto, Flying Dog, Dog Fish Head and Coronas (you're on the beach, gotta get Coronas). I'm not gonna talk up their food cause it's a grocery store so they better have food, I'll just say that what you need they got at a reasonable regular price. No price gouging just cause they're the only store for miles. Make sure to stock up on Lemons, Limes, Oranges and Ice for your beers and grab a case of burgers and dogs and buns to complete your beach meal. This place is also never really busy and if they are they are fast at the check out. My ONLY complaint are the bags! Don't get these paper bags wet in any way. I guess to keep the beach safe and clean they use paper but man do they suck. I dropped a box of frozen burgers on my foot and ketchup and mustard and all the condiments went everywhere. I really like this store. I am not a Harris Teeter fan to begin with and not knowing the Food Lion brand I arrived open minded. The produce was very nice, it was not the cheapest but it was fresh. I purchased celery twice and noticed both times how small the bunches were and not cheap but hey, this is Corolla. The meat selection and prices surprised me the most. There were some amazing buys and all the beef and pork we tried was great. The seafood selections were weak but I was not here for that. There is a fresh fish market across the street and that is where we purchased fish. The aisles were cramped and it's best to go AFTER Saturday check in EARLY Sunday morning. They had a great beer selection and the prices were better than what we see in Upstate NYS. I found most check out clerks to be very nice. They bag in paper only, which I love. No plastic bags in the OBX! Overall this was a good store and I would recommend. read more

So, it is probably just because it was the weekend in the summer, but this place was an absolute mob scene. They have no express lanes or self-checkouts. If you have 2 items you have to wait in line behind people with full carts, which really sucks. They have lots of beach paraphernalia (goggles, chairs, umbrellas, sunscreen - but no towels... boooooooooo). I could not find any employees in the store who spoke English (besides the cashiers), so don't even bother asking them for help. It's open 24 hours, so I'd recommend going at an off hour, or packing food so you can avoid it entirely til Monday when its less busy. I don't even need to tell you its overpriced, right? Don't order groceries for delivery!! Ordered from instacart on Tuesday for a Saturday evening delivery while on vacation. I got a confirmation we were good to go. On Saturday I got a text saying they were behind and my order wouldn't arrive that day until 7:30-8:00pm (originally 6-7pm). Fine, I get it. But at 8:30 and still no groceries I called instacart. She told me food lion hasn't even accepted/opened my order, let alone shop for it. She couldn't tell me when they would get to it but it wouldn't be today and tomorrow shoppers don't arrive until 10am. I could reschedule for Monday! I think 3 starts fits this place very well. It is convenient but often out of things. Every time i go in, there are empty shelves. If you go here not as a local, and on a weekend, make sure you go early in the morning or expect things to be out of stock later in the day. For a vacation spot it should be something they should expect and plan for. Even during the middle of the week things were out of stock and long lines. Only 2 checkout lanes open plus self checkout. Hands down a better deal than Harry Teeters (sorry, couldn't help it). We buy for 20 people and the savings over the place down the road is significant. They also have a solid wine selection. Speed: I've noticed they really ramp up on Saturday Sunday for the registers. While there are huge crowds, Food Lion does it's best to keep as many lanes open as possible, reducing the checkout nightmare! Bottlenecks: Too many "displays" and not enough space at the entrances/exits which can make leaving a hassle. Candy: GET MORE CANDY! I'm on vacation, give me my sugar! Deli: LOVE the order and walk away option. Some improvements can be made on HOW to order or where you order is left, but they'll get there I'm sure. Again, between the two choices in this area, I'll take Food Lion every day! Yes it gets crowded, but I've spent more time in a less crowded Harris Teeters than a packed Food Lion while saving 10%! read more

This store is a typical Food Lion grocery but with beach inflated prices. We did find an 8" cherry pie on sale for $3.99 - it was very good. This Food Lion has great, FREE restrooms that I highly recommend. read more

Not a fan of the crappy customer service, after waiting in line to ask a customer service question because it was super busy- they did not bother to give me a real answer but were too lazy to do extra work (of course for lotto, for this big jackpot). I am frustrated that they so quickly shrugged me off without answers. Other than that, prices are okay, but quality of product might be worth it to drive the extra miles to Harris Teeter. read more

Went there yesterday morning. 7/18/18. I'm sorry I did not ask the butcher his name, but he was extremely helpful. I asked if he had a beef tenderloin as I did not see one in the beef section. He said there was some in back and asked what I was going to do with it. I told him I wanted to cut it up into filets for a large group we were vacationing with. He offered to do that for me. He asked how many people it was for and how big I wanted each steak. He then stopped what he was doing and proceeded to cut our steaks from the best parts of a few different tenderloins which was much better then using one. The steaks turned out fantastic. Stopped in for bread and eggs which I forgot at the Whole Foods we hit up this morning on our way to vacation. It's like the third circle of Dante's Inferno, if the third circle were dramatically overpopulated with the most eclectic group of people you've ever seen. You say blizzard in NJ, and the grocery goes nuts. But it has never held a candle to this spot. The lines stretched to the back of the store and then around the corner. People were pulling 2-3 carts of mostly bad food choices (Entenmanns and DeGiorno pizza seemed popular). I was hoping they'd have a decent choice of bread and some eggs that weren't total junk. But the selection on both counts was amazing. Lots of organic choices in those sections (I didn't check produce or other areas, though). They thankfully had one express line open so I didn't have to spend 2 hours waiting to check out. Staff was helpful if overburdened. read more

If I had in stock in Food Lion I would sell ASAP. I challenge anyone to walk into this store and ask an employee "Where is (insert item)?" I received a blank stare from one clerk and another lied to my friend saying they did not sell canned chili. 5 guys walked around the store till we found the chili section which had 12+ different types. If I go back next year I'm going to get Rosetta Stone for Siberian so I can speak the language of the Food Lion, or just go to Harris Teeter. read more

The prices were surprisingly good given that they really could have taken advantage of tourists. Their beer and wine prices were the same as at home in Ohio. My only complaint is that I found a number of gallons of milk that had expired three days prior. This may have possibly been due to the recent hurricane. read more

One of the few grocery stores in the northern outer banks, specifically Corolla, this store has it all. Expect it to be packed on the weekends and busy during the week throughout the summer months. They sell beer, mixers, and wine, but no hard alcohol, and all the food stuffs one would expect from a grocery store. Also, the staff is mostly comprised of eastern European youth who are very friendly, but may not speak English very well. Who gives a crap though, you're on vacation!! read more
