I have been calling this the "new" HY-Vee since their recent remodel. It has a brighter "feel" than…read moreit had in the past. And with their separate area for their grocery pick up service, congestion has been reduced in the parking lot. I do appreciate their drive through pharmacy as it also reduces congestion inside the store. And a high score for me is that their gas station carries "No Alcohol" fuel (premium pumps only) for the better health of my vehicles fuel systems. On to the store. The demise of their Market Grille was a loss that could be seen coming. When it first opened it rivaled many area sit down restaurants. But as others were opened the original manager was reassigned and service and food dropped off in quality - and continued to drop. It has been replaced by something called Wahlbuger that lacks the menu and service of the past. Their prepared food (I think of it as a cafeteria) has a few highlights like breakfasts and reasonable BBQ (in Kansas City "reasonable" far outweighs very good in most of the rest of the country), along with prepackaged fruit. Starbucks has a stand in the front of the store with all their usual offerings, but across the isle at that snack bar, coffee is available at a much lower cost, and in my opinion, with much better taste and free refills. But to each his own. The Pharmacy is yet another high point. I like the fact that they will send texts when a prescription is ready and that you can manage your prescriptions online. During high demand times they provide curbside flu and COVID-19 shots. I have always found the pharmacy staff to be professional, friendly, and helpful. Smiles can go a long way when you are picking up a prescription called in by your doctor - you likely are not feeling your best at times like that and I appreciate their understanding. I have always found the store clean and well stocked. Their selection is equal or better than other area stores, and their butcher shop staff always goes out of their way to assure you have the most desirable and affordable cuts of meat. Throughout the store the staff is almost always available to assist in locating hard to find items. But being an "Employee Owned" business there appears to be a pride in being part of the business. I like that. Understanding that this is the highest trafficked store in the chain, they still are able to move customers through very efficiently while maintaining good attitudes and customer service. That all said, my opinion is that this is the best (or at least my favorite) Hy-Vee in town.

I shop here only for a few items and only because of the proximity to my home. My biggest critique is your signage is typically wrong on your sale items. And then when I try to get them to honor or adjust the price to match the advertised price, they make me feel like a I am in the wrong and that I'm trying to rip them off when they are the ones who set the sale price.

We have shopped at McKeever's several times…read more This is the cleanest and most well organized grocery store I have ever been in. They have a great selection of tons of things. Though curiously, they do not have actual Sriracha sauce. They have some imitations, but not the real thing. All of the shelves are faced beautifully, and everything is well cared for. We have enjoyed many of the items we have purchased here and never had a problem. They have a good selection of wine, spirits, and beer, as well as groceries and other things. I would have to deduct a star because sometimes the workers are not very friendly, willing to help or, interested in improvements. One night we went there, and there was no usable toilet in the women's room, so my wife had to use the men's room. They were aware of it, and no one took any action.

I am so glad I discovered this upscale grocer. The bakery is why I have made my way to this store…read moreand what keeps me returning. I will have to make a greater effort to explore the rest of the store and eatery. The service was prompt and excellent. The environment is clean and bright. And the bakery offers these outstanding cakes. 5" cakes and 8" cakes. The 5" are perfect for a small party and delicious. When I need a cake, this is my go-to place. In addition, McKeever has Tippins Pies. They have petifores and maccrons. We picked up a croissant, a scone, and a cheese danish in addition to the double mudslide cake. This is my go-to upscale grocer. I see that they offer online ordering and pick up. I am going to have to try that.

I am a fan of Aldi's produce department because of the fresh fruits and veggies at low prices…read morethroughout the year. This location did not disappoint, with its good produce area, clean sales area and typical super-fast and friendly checkout. Very nice!

Aldi's All Right With Me!…read more I had never even heard of Aldi until moving back to the area 12 years ago, but with one exactly one mile from my new home I felt I needed to check it out. Thanks to a remodeling a couple of years ago, the parking lot is well maintained, marked, and accessible. That is where you meet with their ingenious way of collecting shopping carts: to release one from where they are all stored. You need to insert a quarter into a latch that chains it to the others. When you finish shopping and return your cart, your quarter is returned after you latch the chain to your cart! Costs are kept low without the need to assign labor chasing carts around the parking lot, or replacing carts that are stolen or damaged by traffic. Their logic is amazing! The store is always clean inside, and isles are wide enough for shoppers to pass each other. Another cost saving policy is not providing paper or plastic bags - you are expected to bring your own! They will sell you a bag at a reasonable cost if you have to have one. Oh, and you do need to "bag" your purchases yourself. Not providing bags or labor at the check out keeps their cost lower. Those savings are passed on to customers. On first pass, Aldi looks to me like an oversized Quick Trip rather than a super market. That does drive a slight reduction in stock, but selection is usually adequate. Balancing that is things like wine are priced better than anywhere else in town. In fact, it is the only place I go to for table wines. I am rarely familiar with the wineries, but have never been disappointed with any selection. The also have a number of frozen food items that are very tasty and reasonably priced. In the end I do plan for stopping by one of the super stores for an average of four or five items (e.g., distilled water, selected produce, and specific brands) each week. The only low note has been the short shelf life of berries and the like. With their low prices and helpful staff, Aldi continues to be all right with me!
