HORRIBLE shopping experience here …read more.. Store - 4723 NC Hwy 55 Durham NC I drove about 25 minutes across town to purchase three packs of Globe Light Bulbs (approx $50 purchase). While shopping I located some additional items I wanted. A total of at least $100. The store only had one pack of the bulbs that I wanted on the shelf. I located a lady on the floor named Carolyn. I asked her if she had another pack of bulbs to complete my purchase. The time is 8:10pm on Friday night. Carolyn looked me dead in the face and said - " We probably do have some in the back but to be honest it's probably hard to get to". She said "it's so much stock and stuff I won't be able to check but I'm sure we have them - you will just have to come back another day". She had a smirk on her face the entire time. Here I am standing in the store getting ready to spend at least $100 bucks. I had drove 25 minutes from Raleigh to Durham to grab items from this location. I put all of my items back and left the store.

They have great sales and look for the closeouts. Sometimes Food Lion stops carrying certain variety of products. Once they do, they put them on the closeout. SUPER CHEAP! I was also pleasantly surprised to see that this food lion has more variety of foods. I love the newer self checkout options. There is always staff at the registers. Lines are never backed up. Middle of a Sunday afternoon and every table was occupied. Very young crowd too. I guess the cool kids who avoid Starbucks hit this place up. They have several bookshelves to select a book from. The cafe beverage menu is quite extensive and they offer a few pastries as well. I ordered an iced chai with oatmilk and I had it within two minutes. That staff works quickly. I can't say it was a great drink, the spices weren't too noticeable. It tasted more like a cup of slightly flavored milk. Staff was quite jovial, so props for that.

But Ted made my exchange and sneaker selection easy. He was helpful and didn't act like he wanted to be anywhere else but at work. That's generally the energy you get from people at that store. Management sucks and so do the staff but Ted is one of kind and should run one of those stores before they lose all they're clientele to other locations. I got good prices on the shoes too. This is part of the Durham Rescue Mission chain of stores (I think there are two other thrift…read morestores in the area). I think it's the smallest one so the selection is not as wide as the other locations. In any case, you can still hunt for clothing, housewares, books, CDs, etc., here. We always donate our used items here, and you can drive around to the back to donate and get a receipt. Thrift stores are hit or miss, but I guess that's part of the allure. You just never know what you might find. I've gotten clothes and shoes here and have perused the housewares and CDs. If you're in this part of Durham, stop in and take a peek. PS, during COVID, they take your temperature before as you enter the store.
