I enjoy shopping Big Lots. You never know what you might find. I ordered a few items online and stopped in to pick them up. I was unable to find them at my local store and this Durham location had them. Upon entering, the staff member quickly pulled my items that I paid for online. HORRIBLE shopping experience here ... Store - 4723 NC Hwy 55 Durham NC I drove about 25 minutes across town to purchase three packs of Globe Light Bulbs (approx $50 purchase). While shopping I located some additional items I wanted. A total of at least $100. The store only had one pack of the bulbs that I wanted on the shelf. I located a lady on the floor named Carolyn. I asked her if she had another pack of bulbs to complete my purchase. The time is 8:10pm on Friday night. Carolyn looked me dead in the face and said - " We probably do have some in the back but to be honest it's probably hard to get to". She said "it's so much stock and stuff I won't be able to check but I'm sure we have them - you will just have to come back another day". She had a smirk on her face the entire time. Here I am standing in the store getting ready to spend at least $100 bucks. I had drove 25 minutes from Raleigh to Durham to grab items from this location. Good deals, good selection. You can't really go in with a list or an expectation to find certain stuff -- more just a fun place to browse. Staff did their jobs well but were not really friendly or anything. I get it. Would be a better experience with more of a customer service oomph. read more

I'm torn between giving this place two or three stores. I guess it depends on what your expectations are. I've never bought a big ticket item like furniture here but have found some random deals on shelf-stable grocery and cleaning items. It's not the most organized place, and the last two times I visited I didn't end up buying anything. It's worth a random visit every once in a while just to see what they have but not essential for shopping. read more

This location is clean and bright, with friendly employees. Because it's a close-out store, we find something different each time we visit. Today, we mostly bought food items. They also had lots of name-brand kitchen items, gardening supplies, and patio items. As we were leaving, I saw employees putting out a lot of new spring furniture. Unfortunately, the ladies room was missing the door! The stalls had doors (thankfully!), but the bathroom itself didn't. Also, the prices don't seem as low as they used to, but everything goes up, eventually. read more

My boyfriend and I had been all over fuquay and Cary, looking for a certain bed frame and mattress, and no store was helping us correctly. We decided to call Durham. This gentleman Kevin answered the phone and helped me out so much. Had what we wanted, we told him we would be at the store soon. This was the worst shopping experience I have ever had at a Big Lots. When we arrived they one clerk checking out about 15 people then his machine broke down and he moved to another machine and then started telling other customers that cash go to another register. After standing in line for 45 minutes to buy one jar of honey roasted peanuts, and a couple toys for the grandbabies, we got frustrated and just left. read more

Have you ever been inside a Big Lots? Well, this Big Lots is pretty much like any other Big Lots. Have you not ever been inside a Big Lots? Well then, you are missing out on a magical slightly dilapidated world. My experience with this Big Lots has mostly been for holiday decorations. This year, Halloween stuff went on sale probably about a week or two before Halloween (they had to make room for Christmas). I hit up ALL the big box stores the day after Christmas this year. Almost all of them were completely out of lights... except Big Lots! They had a few left - more than the other stores. Besides cheap/fun decorations, Big Lots offers a wide spectrum of random stuff. Kinda like a really tiny Wal-Mart, with much less popular brands or selection. I hate to be mean to Big Lots, but it has a really run-down feel to it (not just this one - all of them). This particular shopping center can be a little depressing. But hey, it's Big Lots, you should know what you are getting into - Amazing deals are awaiting you in this store! read more

TERRIBLE, do not order from online!!! I ordered a mattress from the Big Lots website as I was not able to take the mattress home with me from the store because I don't have a car big enough to hold it. The store that the mattress was getting delivered from was the Big Lots store at 4723 Nc Hwy 55. The mattress that I ordered was the Diego Full Firm Tight Top mattress. The next day when the mattress arrived at my home, I noticed that it was the wrong mattress entirely. I ordered the Diego firm mattress, they sent me the Donovan plush mattress. I called the store and the delivery company came back and picked up the wrong mattress and I received the Diego mattress the next day. However, after me and my family members dragged the mattress upstairs and placed it on my bed frame it was then they we noticed that it was little too big. I looked on the plastic covering and saw that the label said Queen instead of Full. I called the store to complain about the horrible service and the person on the phone didn't pay much attention as when I asked if they still had a full Diego mattress he replied with "yes we have a queen Diego mattress". They then told me to call back in the morning to speak with the manager or to call corporate. Will never be shopping at Big Lots again! read more

Walk into Big Lots today with family. Manager sees we're muslim, and says here comes trouble. Hate that it has to be that way. Its one thing to dislike people for personal reasons, but in an established place of business, its unacceptable. Not a bad store, manager needs to go through some training. read more

I don't have any complaints. Everyone was extremely nice and helpful... and this was one of the cleanest Big Lots I've ever been to.
