Some of the old pottery factory equipment, such as boilers, is still intact in The Pottery Place factory outlet mall in Red Wing. This multi dealer, multi store mall occupies the historical Pottery Factory where Red Wing Pottery was produced. Offering a wide selection of antiques, stoneware, collectibles, and more. Some of the stores to be found within the mall are Pottery Place Antiques, 3rd Floor Antiques, Main, etc. Not a bad road walking trip.

In those days, there were many businesses, and it even had its own ad in the Red Wing Magazine. This time that I went here, though, it was a shadow of its former self. Everything that I remember about this place had changed drastically. The nickelodeons that once played their rhythmic, lively tunes were now silent, and many of the stores that were once here have since moved or closed. As long as this mall is open, the vendors and the management have the opportunity to improve this place and restore it to its former glory. Yet time seems to be running out. If this mall doesn't change its ways now, I feel that it will vanish into nostalgia.

There are two major facets of the market: a food counter and a small grocery store that specializes in Mexican/Guatemalan goods. There were some fresh items, like produce, vegetables, and cheese, but most of the stock is shelf-stable. LOTS of ingredients. I'm from California, so the vibe reminded me a lot of home, though the Guatemalan items were new and cool. Like, the frozen tamales weren't wrapped by corn husks, but with banana leaves. We were there to order food to go. Tip: it's probably best to order by phone or online, because they do make everything fresh. We had about a 30 minute wait, which was okay, because it gave us a good chance to study the grocery store. The food is well worth the wait, too. We ordered birria tacos and a birria pizza. Like I said, I'm from California, and then my husband is from New Mexico. We have had... mixed experiences in getting authentic, flavorful Mexican food in Minnesota. This stuff? Legit. Generous fillings, lots of flavor. I'm sensitive to hot spices and this was at a perfect level for me--hot to my judgment, but the kind of pleasant hot that washes away when I have some water. The tears I experienced were from sheer nostalgia is getting delicious food that reminds me of home. We will absolutely be getting food from here again!
