I highly recommend making a shopping date with friends and then hitting coffee afterwards. Bonus: Flying Pig is typically open until 6 pm and Ginkgo 8 pm!! Flying Pig Thrift is staffed primarily by volunteers and everyone is beyond kind. Community resources are available onsite via a bulletin board and the shop supports 3 main non-profit groups. Within the dressing area room, there was a flyer supporting mental health resources and I smiled when I saw it. There are a wide variety of items that shift seasonally and frequently. Items are fairly priced and there are often sales, half price item days and even a permanent sale section in the back. I was really excited to score a denim button up with funky colorful bird designs, a cute yellow bee kind sweatshirt along with a black Nike top. In addition to clothes, there are shoes, cards, jewelry, some handcrafted art, home decor, hospital scrubs, board games, records, magazines and more. Thank you Flying Pig Thrift! I appreciate your mission and service towards the Saint Paul area.

I've been very curious about the store because it had been receiving a lot of hype. I am very glad I stopped in and will be doing so again in the future. NIne lives is a small but well stocked thrift store with a wide range of women's sizes. Their selection is well organized, and well curated. It doesn't have the funky smell one runs into sometimes with thrift stores. I found a number of cute items. Unfortunately, none of them fit, but the selection was good enough that I want to stop again. Thrift stores are always hit and miss, so it's nice to have one that is so well organized. Great job!

The colors of the shop speak vibrant energy from the disco ball to the hot pink logo. As a gal who prefers thrifting, I know that I can now count on adding this shop into my rotation. Why? The color sorting and giant array of sizes was my selling point. Hooray for having not just a few large items or XXL but a plethora. From pants to skirts to shoes to jewelry, this place has it all. I sized up a little today and everything fit perfect even 2 swimsuits which is something that has never happened in my life. The owner, Roxanne, was a delight to speak with and informed me that many of the swimsuits were basically new as she purchased them from another thrift shop and didn't believe they were worn. The value is unbelievable where a majority of the swimsuits were coming in at a whopping $4 per piece. You cannot beat this place and I look forward to my return. Thank you!!

There's a good variety of used and new items, along with various categories of goods.... big and small. Pricing varies as well, but you can bet your paying less than retail price. Some of the basics: sofas, artwork, rugs, paint, bedframes, lightbulbs, patio furniture, Some of the interesting: church pew, chandeliers, fancy stoves, building material (flooring, fixtures, cabinets) Some of the little things: command strips, paper towel holder, bath mat, frames There's so much, and you never know what you'll find during your visit so check it out. I will say, staff didn't seem warm and friendly (ie a smile, or offer to help), but at the same no one was directly rude. I gather if you ask for help, they'd assist. I noticed by the bed frames, a sign that said they have tools to disassemble, but you had to do it yourself, which is still helpful since some places wouldn't even offer that.

From wontons, to boba tea, to fried rice to dumplings, they have it all. I was here 6-years ago and remember enjoying the intimacy, food, night life, etc. Flash forward to present and I felt neutral about it. I would absolutely go again, yet wouldn't be upset if I missed it. University Avenue is always questionable so for safety reasons, this is not an event I would feel comfortable going solo even in the day time despite the police manning the area. I took my mom and we parked on a side street and walked our way up to the festival. I can proudly say that it has expanded in all the positive ways to include more food vendors, crafts for kids, an entertainment stage and an overall expansion to the opposite side of University. Bravo overall for all the hard work to organize this and to all the vendors for cooking, waiting in the heat, and displaying all talents. I found all the lines to be really long for food and realized I'd rather enjoy a sit down meal when it comes to Thai or Vietnamese cuisine so I opted for the one vendor who had all the food ready to go and purchased an egg roll bowl. It was decent and probably not worth the $15. My favorite part were all the boba tea options as well as the fresh sugar cane juice. I found the market to be a little overcrowded and while it has expanded, not something one needs more than an hour at. In addition, I wish there were more artists selling merchandise and tables to sit at. It was 98% food and desserts.

And to end the night a Fruity Pebbles macaroon. Aside from grazing at this festival, we also caught some traditional dance performances along with some bboy dance-offs, not to mention all of the other vendors you'll find interspersed among the tents. It was really crowded and the lines can be outrageous. At times you have no idea where the line ends or begins, and parking is definitely something that someone needs to take control of here. Apart from that, you'll have an amazing time. Have some cash with you, while some vendors accept credit that isn't always the case. I did see a few ATMs here and there, but those fees though...grab it before you get there.
