The wait staff knew the menu and asked all the right questions so that diners got what they wanted, and how or when they wanted it. From the time we arrived at leaving was just 35 minutes. We took a few extra minutes to check out the outside areas and there are two large decking areas with seating plus a smaller area and a kids playground like you've never seen at a pub - with zipwire and a huge wooden fort. Reception was swift and Covid-19 aware. A pleasant surprise was an upgrade to their Premier Plus room. Wow, quite a difference. Larger room, extras such as arm chair, ironing board and iron, extra pillows, good coffee machine as well as tea making facilities, nice toiletries, faster wi-fi available etc etc. A really enjoyable, quiet, overnight stay. TIP. Buy their meal offer when booking. Great breakfast and a nice evening meal at, I believe, about 25% discount.

Not sinking soft, and not too hard either. Water pressure in the shower was great and water was hot instantly. All rooms have air conditioning too. Checkin service was very friendly and quick. The rooms are not your contemporary affair, and are very much styled as they would have been 50 years ago, though with added conveniences like flat screen TVs. If you're over 6 foot, you may find the beds a little short as they are very much luxury antiques (I found them tolerable). The bathrooms are beautiful, and contain large roll top baths. From what we have seen on our two night stay, Somerton is not the most exciting town and you will most likely have to drive the local area to find activities and places to see. We visited Cheddar Gorge and Lyme Regis, which are both an hour away. We didn't visit Langford, which is meant to be nice, and the hotel has a link with a bike rental firm here. The owner's and staff are very friendly and accommodated our needs. Breakfast is served with generous portions of local quality ingredients. If you want to eat in the evening, head to The Red Lion in Babcary. The restaurants and pubs in Somerton weren't very appealing.

We stayed in Room 1 which is beautifully appointed, large bright and with a great bed. The second bathroom also has antique bath tub which is perfect. The grounds are gorgeous and we took a great hike through the nearby deer park. The staff is friendly and helpful and management really caters to every guest desire. The full English breakfast exceeds expectations as does the tasting menu and service at dinner. If you wanted to be treated like royalty, stat at the Summer Lodge!
