I got in the water and panicked. Kelly, our guide, expertly made sure I got back to the boat. Spencer, our dive master, helped me up and reassured me the whole time. I got to spend the next couple hours hanging out with Spencer and robin (the captain), which honestly, was a great time. What I loved is how committed they were to safety, and also making me feel valid in my decision to abort the dives. My partner successfully completed two dives and had a fantastic experience with Kelly guiding him. If/when we're back in key west again for diving, we will definitely book with Lost Reef again!!

Lost Reef Adventures...the worst dive shop that I have encountered in 30 years of scuba diving…read more The negatives: The owner, Nick, was extremely unfriendly to the point of being hostile. He had a serious attitude problem and had no idea what the concept of "customer service" meant. He just stares at you, waiting for you to say something...it's really creepy. After telling us to show up at 7:00 for the morning dives, no one from the shop bothered to show up until 7:45. The crew was only okay. The dive master acted like this was an annoyance to be taking us out on a dive...like he just wanted to get this over and done with. He just swam around for 45 minutes until it was time to re-board. The boat pilot told us, "We're not leaving the dock until you get your gear ready." There was one guy (with a mullet and ear rings) that was pretty cool and very helpful. The equipment was fair, but had some issues. The first tank that I hooked up to only had 1200 psi, turns out that 1/4 of the tanks onboard had previously been used and not removed or refilled. The fact that they all had the rubber covers on the valve (indicating a fresh tank) made it very confusing as to which tank to use. My dive buddy's regulator was inoperable. The dives were fair at best. I guess Key West really isn't that great for sea life when compared to the USVI or Belize, buy the dive master didn't even bother to point out sea life. EVERY dive I've been on in 30 years had a dive master that took pride in his/her job and did their best to point out - things to see - during the dive. I told the travel office on the base at Sigsbee not to recommend them. There are vastly superior shops like Southpoint Divers and Captain's Corner that will give you a much more pleasant experience. I dove with Southpoint on all of my subsequent dives in Key West. The positives: The boat was great - lotsa space for everyone, safety equipment was plentiful, and the safety briefing was well done. As I mentioned before, one of the crew (lives in Roatan, Honduras and was visiting his daughter) was very helpful but unfortunately, he was the exception. The BCDs, masks, and fins were fine. There's not really anything else positive that came out of my experiences. Do yourself a favor and use one of the other dive shops in Key West.

It was wonderful that he fillet the fish for us, right there, so we could take it to a restaurant and they cooked it for us for dinner! Words were exchanged, tensions flared, and for a split second it looked like fists might fly but somehow, like all great misadventures, it smoothed itself out into laughter, stories, and another round of drinks. From the ease of the booking and contact with Captain Morgan as to where to catch the boat to a beautiful day full of sites, fun and laughter. We (the four of us) have been in Key West on many trips and decided with the great weather doing an all day Tiki Boat/Sand Bar trip would be so much fun and it did not disappoint. The highlight of the trip was our Captain. Truly a great guy, friendly, welcoming, great sense of humor and very professional. Of course we gave him a hard time about being "Captain Morgan", which by the way he gets it a lot! We had the best time talking with him and as we all got to know each other we had blast giving each other fun stories and joking around. Morgan told us so much about the waters around the Keys. Took us to several very pretty spots in which we saw more wild life that day then he said he's seen in a while. We saw nurse shark, several dolphin pods and one with a little baby! Sting ray and some barracuda The waters are a beautiful blue like you seen no where else. Captain Morgan took us to see the beautiful mangroves, so many lizards in the trees it was crazy... and just gorgeous. We pulled up on a little beach to check out the views and hang in the water. We brought some drinks, sandwiches and snacks... Such a fun experience to relax on this boat. The tiki theme is so fun, clean boat and great music. Defiantly gives you the island vibe. He's only been with the company for 4 months---but had all kinds of fun filed facts about Key West. The sun was behind clouds...and it POURED on our way back in....BUT none of that mattered as we had a great captain, fun music, libations :) and friends/family. All else was included with the charter. We caught a Sailfish (6-footer), a Barracuda, 2 Bonito fish, and a 24 pound Mackerel which we took for food. There were many other charters fishing around us, who weren't catching anything. We lost a few big fish as well (the fish broke the line). We had such a great time we're planning on another charter next year! There are many charters in Key West, but we chose the Eva Marie because it was a larger boat, it has Air Conditioning & a Head (bathroom). Thanks Captain John-- We'll be back!

It was one of the best days of our lives; the number of tropical fish we saw, along with the blacktip reef shark and beautifully colored parrotfish, was breathtaking! On our way out to the Lookey Reef and on our way back, we saw five pods of dolphins, with some coming up to the boat to look at us. Words do not do this trip justice; I will recommend Capt. Clint Moore and Captain Kristen's snorkel trip and other excursions to anyone wanting an incredible adventure! We will definitely be back!

We wanted to do something special and memorable for our oldest son's college graduation this year…read moreand combine it with our family summer vacation. Being from the central US, most vacations in the past have been mountain/cabin camping and motorcycle riding trips. Renting a 48 ft catamaran and having 8 people, plus captain and skipper in tight quarters was a bit of an unknown. However, by the time we completed our 2-day trip, every one of our family and friends couldn't stop talking about how fantastic the experience was. Before the trip, Captain Terry Mentor reached out to me and asked if there was a particular plan I had in mind. I indicated we'd like to do some snorkeling, island exploring and if the winds permitted, learn the ropes of sailing. Once on board and under way, Captain Terry and skipper Troy were great. For our two-day trip, including two nights at anchor, we headed toward the Marquesas Keys, about 20 miles west of Key West. On the way there we stopped at several different reefs and had a fantastic time with the family snorkeling. We say rays, dolphins, hammer heads, sea turtles and lots of fish. The first night the ocean was absolute glass, and we viewed the beauty of the sun setting into the ocean. A couple of the kids even slept out on the trampoline. The next morning we experienced the sunrise and another day of snorkeling and exploration. In the afternoon, skipper Troy lowered the dingy into the water and took us onto one of the islands. In the shallow waters we saw some sand sharks and then traveled into the central lagoon of the island. Later we visited a shipwreck and explored the remains. Each night Captain Terry and Skipper Troy were part of the family games and storytelling, they fit in nicely. The initial boat check-in and final check-out process went smoothly and everything, including the boat were as advertised. All in all, this was a unique family experience away from it all with beauty, adventure and encounters with unique marine life we will remember for years to some. After a 700 dollar order, they provided a measly 100 dollar credit. Don't use them, as they aren't the luxury experience they claim. You can do far better with a company that treats their customers well.
