The 2 stars are because the salon is clean, quiet and the staff is courteous. I visited this salon yesterday to have my hair dyed from gray to dark brown. The stylist didn't understand English so she asked a customer to translate. At the shampoo chair she proceeded to wash my hair and after having me sit up she began to vigorously rub in what I thought was a pre conditioner into my hair. I became suspicious when I caught sight of a nearby customers expression and reached up to touch the drip and was horrified to see that it was dye! I got up and walked over to the owner, Mayra, who was at the first chair applying dye to a customer's hair. I asked her why the stylist was rubbing dye into my hair as you would shampoo or conditioner. Mayra informed me that all her stylist had different ways of doing things and assured me that my hair would turn out right without damage. To shorten this review let me say what any experienced salon customer already knows, Mayra had to reapply the dye to my hair! She offered me no apology for allowing her inexperienced shampoo girl Jessie to scrub dye into my hair, No apology for the 3+ hours I was sitting in her salon and she still charged me $60! This morning I see that my hair is shedding already. It saddens me but I believe this never would have happened if I was a Spanish speaking person. read more

I went there for a virgin hair relaxer (never had a relaxer in my life). I washed my hair the previous day and it was a little damp when i got to the salon. The woman at the front desk touched my hair and said oh no your hair is wet you wont be able to get a relaxer then she went to speak to the sylist who asked me to sit down so i guess she could see. They go back and forth for a few seconds. They don't speak english (but w.e). I told the woman if its going to be a problem i will come back another day its not a issue. the stylist insist she is a pro and there wont be a problem. I tell this woman AGAIN i can come back (because i was very nervous for my first relaxer) she says to say and theres nothing to worry about. We did everything and my hair looked straight the the entire processed seem to go well until i did my first wash and realized parts of my hair were under-processed and parts were very straight. Also the right side of my hair is more under-processed than the left. I knew there were risk with getting a relaxer but i am very upset at this woman because the parts that were under-processed were the damp parts as my hairline and middle part were completely dry by then. YOU INSISTED IT WOULD'NT BE A PROBLEM AFTER I TOLD YOU I WOULD COME BACK TWICE. THATS THE UPSETTING PART. YOU WOULD'VE MADE THE MONEY ANOTHER DAY! A waste of $80 AND time. My family and I are fairly new to Rockland county and I finally found my new home away from home Dominican hair salon!!! The staff are super nice and accommodating! Although I'm used to the fast paced Bronx and Harlem pace, Dominican Beauty Center is definitely comparable. The hair stylists are very talented and nice. As someone with type 4 hair, with moderate to high density, you can only imagine that me going to salons comes with a bit of trepidation as my hair is quite dense and quite curly to straighten. However, as my first salon experience, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was with professionals when you had to deal with curly hair such as mine. Not only did the owner take the time to see what I wanted, but she also gave me some suggestions as she knew how curly my hair was and took into consideration how it would look even if it wasn't straight. The blow dryer was pretty hot, but of course it had to be to get through my hair. At the end, after the cut and the styling, my hair was exactly the way I wanted it to be and I was SO pleased. The staff are friendly. I've come here on and off since they opened. First of all I know they have the right to speak their native language but it is rude when it's constantly done amongst themselves while working over a customer. They need to understand that the blow drying tools are extremely hot on African American hair. No matter how many times I ask them to lower the heat they insist on keeping it high. They do not provide hair care they're like a factory just moving from one customer to the next. Myra is an exceptional stylist and owner but you really need to ensure the staff provide better hair care to customers and make the work environment more professional especially with all of the staff loud talking over customers hair. read more

I came here to just wash and do a set of rollers. I have curly hair and the outcome was great: I didn't get my hair straightened because I wanted to leave it as it was. I'm sure if I wanted it straightened the ladies would've done a great job. I would come back here for a quick wash and dry. read more

My 7 year old daughter had her first blow out here. The worker doing her hair was not very friendly to her. Didn't trim her hair. No treatment. And burned my baby's scalp several times that my daughter was crying at the chair. I had to tell her to put heat protectant in. She had an attitude maybe because it was close to closing time. She didn't wrap it for me and just had a less then professional attitude. The other hair dresser is nicer, friendlier..but this lady (I wish I knew her name) was not the one. Turned me off to that place. I won't be back :( read more

Do NOT go here. They do not care about the aftermath of your hair, especially if you have natural hair. The heat is way too hot on the head and the workers are rude. They are very dirty as well. As one of them were doing my hair a clip fell onto the ground, instead of bending it over and picking it up like a sane, smart, & NICE worker they instead took off their shoe and picked it up with the BARE FEET. This was outrageous, if you do not want feet clips and hair damage do NOT go here!! read more

Went on a few occasions and was okay. Had my hair highlighted 2 years ago and was happy with results then. Went recently and there was new management and new stylists. Was not greeted at all and it was treated like I was wasting their time with asking how much for highlights. All she did was look at my head and said $150. Walked right out. Do not go here if you're hair is natural. There's a dark skin lady who works there ( I'm not sure of her name), she wears hats most of the time and her chair is in the middle of the salon. She has done my hair about 4 times and I realized she will tear out your hair LITERARY ( she does not care). I ask her to stop being so ruff the last time and in responds she said "she was tired and wanted to go home to eat". Which does not make it ok to be rough with your hair. Then talked about me in Spanish. I just moved to Rockland and I thought I found a good salon close to home but I guess not. I'd rather drive an hour to the city to get my hair done before she ever touches me again. DO NOT GO THE DARK SKIN LADY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SALON. Try anyone else before going to her. read more

Stay away one lady gave me heat damage in just one sitting. Horrible!!!!! No stars. The outside looks nice but they Will damage your hair.

Everyone here knows how to to do hair, and they do a wonderful job at it too and their prices are great. My only issue is that they do not have designated staff for washing and setting rollers for their customers. The hair stylist does everything based on first come basis as they do not take appts. (Which is the second reason for my thee stars) Because of this I find myself waiting long periods of times on busy days such as the weekends and even Mondays, just to have my hair washed and set. Should they have staff designated just to wash and setting in the rollers while the hair stylist, style their customers hair the time you spend waiting to wash your hair would be much less. And as much as I love the outcome I am currently looking into other salons near me. read more
