I showed her inspiration pictures and she delivered perfectly. I was so impressed that she was able to tame my many baby hairs and fly aways without a single hair out of place. Emma did my makeup and she did a perfect job. I showed her my outfit and an inspiration video and she matched the look perfectly for my face. I didn't know her experience doing make up for Asian features but she did such a great job! I would highly recommend this place! Really Bad Haircut That Set Me Back I want to preface this review by saying that it's been over a month since my haircut so this is, in no way, a same-day reaction to a new haircut in which I went home and immediately commented on it. After growing my hair out for 5 whole months, and visiting Priscilla three times in between for little maintenance trims, I came to Priscilla for what I asked, another maintenance trim, and nothing more, even showing reference photos of how my hair, and what she knew, my hair previously looking like for accurate and precise references. However, specifically in the back of my hair, Priscilla chopped a lot, removing the appearance of hair in the back of my head from the front, opposite to what I had asked for. Instead, she added "layers" to the back of my hair that ended up embarrassingly looking like a bubble in the back of my head from a side point-of-view, not at all cutting to conform the shape of my head nor what I had asked for while telling me to "trust her on this one." Additionally, she obviously left the sides and front too long, disproportional to the back of my head, leaving for a very uneven cut overall and an embarrassing appearance in the back. There's an appearance of a bowl cut from the back and side, which is what I feared would ever happen to me, thus only ever going for maintenance trims with my longer hair, and nothing trimmed in the front, leaving me to have to trim the front of my hair less than 2 weeks into the haircut just to be able to see. For a month, leading up to this point, I tried my hardest to "trust the process" of it growing back out, which is the longest I've ever prevented an opinion on a haircut, but it's simply an objectively bad haircut. Not just to me, but my grandma, and friends, leaving me the most unconfident and insecure I've ever felt about my hair. I do think this is the worst haircut I've received in a long time. On the sides of my head, the right side of my head's hair grows outward but the left grows downwards, further attesting to the unevenness of the haircut. Also, with my prom next month, I'm left with nothing but the passage of time to hope to solve my hair growing out of this mess. read more

Second time around I had a new stylist and I have to say I couldn't have been more disappointed in her work. Completely the wrong tone and the highlights themselves were so tiny, it looked like I had grey hair, I'm 23. I called and told them I was not happy and they had me come in for a consult. When I called though, I was talking to someone working remote? It's a hair salon if you're not there I really don't know how you can be of any help. The studio is so modern and spacious, the vibe is really welcoming. All of the staff I interacted were pleasant and friendly. They offer a full range of services within the salon and even have their own private lot. The only reason that I gave one star is now there's a $2 service fee , which is totally unacceptable especially on principle, raise your fees instead of a service charge, if I started charging a service fee for each and everyone of my customers I would be doing them a dis-service. I can honestly say I was extremely satisfied with the staff and how they treated my son and myself. As soon as we entered they treated us well. Offering water and juice. I'm honestly so surprised to read negative reviews for Mania's. I've never had anything less than a stellar experience with Jessica N., who has been cutting and styling my hair for the past three years. The salon itself is gorgeous, and they use all Bumble & Bumble products, which I'm a huge fan of. The stylists explain to you exactly which products they're using, and giving you a sheet with all of the information on what they used, if you want to buy the same products to use at home. Every staff member is incredibly professional, from the front desk to the stylists, and I've never seen anyone look anything less than impeccably presented. My very first visit to the salon, after returning to NJ after living in Pennsylvania for four years, I was greeted by the owner, and was given a gift bag to thank me for being a new customer (with samples of Bumble products). The prices are phenomenal for what you get - $56 for a haircut with a mentor level stylist is incredible. With tip, you're still walking out for under $100, which is a steal in this area, especially for the quality of services and how fantastic your blow dry will look (and hold up!). I've never been disappointed with Jessica, and find her extremely personable and talented. When I say I only want my ends trimmed and a little length taken off, she listens and makes sure I'm comfortable with what she plans to cut before going for it - so again, I'm surprised by people who say that the staff doesn't take client feedback and does what they want. I've never had that experience there. Don't try to park on the street, there's a lot in the back, and a back entrance. You can book your appointments online (sign up for their emails!) and you'll get emails back to confirm your appointment, or have you set up something else. I had the pleasure of getting my hair done by Phoebe the other day, it was such a relief to find a salon with the welcoming environment/face. The salon is super clean, open floor concept with tons of great light coming in. Phoebe is absolutely adorable and super open to ideas and learning everything about your routine for your hair and the type of hair you have. She gave me an incredible blowout. I always felt like I was being judged. That sounds slightly paranoid, but I swear those were the vibes I got. Anyway, I was only ever impressed with a couple of haircuts I got there. I think those might have been flukes. No lie, one day I had that Carol Brady, mushroom-cut over a flip look going on when I walked out the door. How you say...LE NOT SEXY. They can cut hair, but there isn't anything fabulous about this place. I don't know about you, but food can get away with being 3-Star A-OK. Drinks can be 3-star A-OK. Started going here after I switched jobs. Hard to find a decent place up here on the border of NY. The salon is very deceiving from the street. It looks kind of like a house. Once you get inside, it is very modern. Everything is clean and new. The woman who cuts my hair does a pretty good job. I am not a big talker while I get my hair cut and I think she has caught on. I've got to say, the best part of a haircut for me is the hair washing part. A little scalp massage goes a long way. This place is a little pricier (28$ for a mens cut) than I would probably like, but it'll do. Street parking is a pain, park in the lot in the back. Also water and bagels while you wait is great. They also take apointments online. They also take credit cards and you can over pay on your card and get cash back to tip. That is a key feature for me. read more

I want to give a shoutout to Judy S because even though I can tell she's totally impatient with me (I am the worlds most particular client) she's constantly working at changing my already good color into something else I'm asking her for. I've been to other salons and had horrible experiences with color. Judy has almost consistently done work that exceeds all expectations. If you're looking for balayage go straight to Judy. I see some people complaining about price but really the price is pretty competitive with other higher end salons. You can always find a cheaper service, sure, but you're getting what you pay for. I'm shocked that this place doesn't have four or five stars. I had a great experience there! It's a gorgeous, spa-like salon. The employees are very sweet and super hospitable--both owners came out to introduce themselves to me on my first visit. Impressive! The employees at reception are great too, making and changing appointments is a breeze and they even sent me with a sample of a hair cream we chatted about. The salon also exclusively uses bumble and bumble products--a nice bonus (and it makes the whole place smell so good). They use a tiered pricing system so there are stylists available for any budget. I had my hair cut by Jackie, who was the best stylist I've had in ages! She really listened to what I wanted and worked with my natural texture (2a/2b wavy curls) to give me a great cut! She also showed me how to use a diffuser and how to tame the baby hairs around my face! Life changing. Even though she was a higher tier person I thought the price was reasonable, especially considering the experience felt so luxurious. I would definitely recommend coming here! Went here for the first time last week for a cut and color upon the recommendation of a few friends that go here regularly. I requested Judy and am so glad I did. She did exactly what I asked but with her expert hand/eye. I wanted a subtle balayage that's low maintenance and it's exactly what I got. Called them to tell them and was told I'd get a call from the manager, which....shocker....never happened. This place wasn't even busy and I saw various employees walking around and not busy. Avoid like the plague. **UPDATE**And to reflect on Corey's comment below, they blamed my error on a 'down pager system'. Sorry Corey. Any one of the multiple people I saw without a customer could have walked to the back and found the person. I've tried Mania's a few times over the years, trying different people in hopes that someone would blow me away. I wanted to like them b/c I live nearby, their prices are reasonable and they have decent hours. However, I've always left underwhelmed, and this final time was no different. I gave them a shot b/c my normal stylist was on vacation for two weeks and my ends were in poor shape. I figured a clean inch or two off would be something they could manage...I was wrong. I sprung for the "mentor" level haircut for about $56, the girl was friendly albeit she looked unkempt (which is rare for a hairstylist). I came equipped with many pictures and was very specific in my desired outcome. The 45 minute appointment was borderline torturous as she did nothing but talk about herself and her personal gripes/troubles/unrealized dreams - I felt like i was being held hostage in that chair. Not once did she bother to get to know me or ask me a single question...I felt like a bartender while she unloaded. The situation went from bad to worse when I saw her adding a TON of long layers to my straight bra-length hair (similar to Kristin Davis's hair). I made it 110% clear that I was desperately trying to grow out my old layers and did not want them touched since my hair grows so slowly. When I left, she had lobbed off about 4 inches, and shaped it into a box instead of long and flowing like I came in with. The worst part was that she added the layers all over and the faceframe, leaving me with "The Rachel" haircut from Friends circa 1992. To top it off, she gave me the laziest, half-assed blowout I've ever seen. She used a crappy old brush that was too small for a blowout and missing many bristles. She left my hair damp in many areas and with millions of flyaways - as soon as I walked outside into the summer heat, it immediately frizzed up, as anticipated. Immediately it went into a ponytail. It gets worse...I had just recently had my hair colored (and told her this) and the shampoo that she used (probably clarifying) basically stripped most of the color and I'm now left with a red tinge I can't get rid of on my brown hair... I am extremely unhappy and have worn my hair in a ponytail every day since my cut. My normal stylist is one year out of beauty school and does a better cut than Mania's "mentor" level. Mania's needs to find some new "talent" because if she's their 'mentor," they're in trouble. Horrible experience...again. Lesson learned. read more
