Dominion Endodontics has moved since I was last here. They are now in a flashy new office on the sixth floor (same building and same convenient location near Ballston metro). Dr. Yeh was wonderful: friendly, knowledgeable, thorough (and not rushing surgery unless necessary). No long wait here which I appreciate very much. I arrived on time and my appointment started on time. They were also able to squeeze in a same day appointment which was amazing. New office is airy and full of natural light. This review is specifically for a pediatric root canal. I had a root canal done by Dr. Schoenly about 8 years ago and was very happy with the process. However, I recently was referred to his office when my 10 year old daughter needed one (after a trauma where she chipped her front tooth) and it was not a great experience - we had to leave without getting a root canal that she needed and I was stuck with $260 bill with no dental work actually being done. As you can imagine, it is pretty scary for a kid to have to get a root canal. The nurses were amazing at trying to make it a comfortable experience for my daughter but Dr. Schoenly was not as comforting. After nitrous oxide, he came straight in with the needle to numb (did not explain anything that was about to happen and he got impatient with her when she was nervous and taking a long time to comply). Long story short, she was terrified, crying, and we had to leave. She and I both are upset and frazzled, then he tells me I have to pay for the nitrous. So, I was stuck paying $260 out of pocket, now have a kid who was traumatized by the process, and we didn't get the procedure she needed done complete. read more

I was very nervous leading up to my root canal so hopefully this review (as prior reviews did for me) will soothe you! I needed a root canal because a large filling was beginning to hurt when I chewed with that tooth. Dr. Palmieri performed my root canal and he and his assistant were amazing. The most painful part of it all was the shot of local anesthesia, something I was used to from prior fillings. I assure you, everything else was painless. A little annoying but pain free. I am now recovering with some soreness but overall, if I ever need another root canal, I know where to go! read more

It's hard to want to give an endodontist a good review; but these doctors make it easy to do. The most recent visit over the past few years was for a root canal on a tooth that flared up during the temp crown period of some other work my primary dentist was doing to the same tooth. I'm not the patient from the movie with Audrey II (I'm a wuss when it comes to dental pain), but I was ready to be in the chair for this visit. The doctor took the time and effort to ensure that root canal therapy itself did not add to the pain and suffering that I was already feeling. The previous visit several years ago was also for a root canal; although not as urgent on my part. Dr. Palmieri has stayed late in the office and has come in early before his scheduled patients to see me. When you are in distress Dr. Palmieri is exactly the kind of person you want to take charge of your care. He is calm, thoughtful, caring and very quiet by nature which helps alleviate your anxiety. Dr. Palmieri's diagnostic skills are amazing and he will explain exactly what is causing your pain and then outline the plan for treating it. His skill in administering anesthetic agents is exemplary. He also will call you the evening after he does a procedure to check up on you. I have been his patient since 2011 and unfortunately for me in the last eleven years I have needed to have four root canals. Fortunately for me Dr. Palmieri is my endodontist. read more

I went to my regular dentist's office a few months ago for a regular cleaning and check up and they found a cavity that was apparently very deep so I scheduled an appointment to get that fixed. But then COVID-19 happened so I had to push back my filling appointment. Fast forward a few months later, I got the worst pain in my life on this tooth. It was so bad I even felt it in my ear and my neck. I called my regular dentist's office and they were all closed because of the COVID situation! Noone answered my call at the office so I started crying my eyes out. One of my friends then suggested that I go to Dominion Endodontics, and thankfully they were open to see emergencies during this crisis. Everyone I met, from the front desk lady, Judith, who answered my call and made my appointment, to the assistants, and most of all, my doctor, Dr. Guerrero, were so courteous, so professional, and so willing to help me alleviate this disastrous pain! Dr. Guerrero was able to finish this root canal in 1 visit for me. He looked like a hefty guy, but his fingers were delicate like a butterfly. I even fell asleep during my root canal. Dr. Guerrero also recommended that I took a CT scan, which is one of the coolest things I have ever seen! They don't have those in every office, so I think it is great that this office was able to have one of their own. After the procedure, I felt no pain at all, and my tooth ache and headache were both gone! Dr. Guerrero even followed up with me the next day to make sure I was doing okay, which I really appreciated, because most doctors are too busy to do that on their own or just straight up don't care. Anyways, I definitely recommend this place and all the staff to anyone who needs a root canal. Word of advice - root canals aren't so bad, if you come here. read more

2017- I was in a lot of pain and they were able to get me in the next day. I was comfortable during the procedure and Dr. Shoenly explained everything to me and answered all of my questions. Everyone is very friendly. The office is also very clean. I'm glad I chose this practice. Update: Jan 2019- I had to have another appointment here. I was really uncomfortable and got an appointment the same day I needed it. I was treated by Dr. Kheirieh. Just had my 3rd root canal with Dr. Palmieri (I'm averaging one a year! ...I should really remember to check-in, huh? :P). This place rocks. I got a new dentist recently, too, and when I went back to him to get the crown, even HE complimented Palmieri's work. He said "When someone decides to go to their own guy [instead of the one he had recommended] you never know what you're gonna get, but he did a great job." What's also great is I learned the benefit of having a doc with multiple locations: My first two root canals with Dr. Palmieri were in Ballston because it was easier for me to get there on the metro while working in DC. My wife has had a number of root canals with Dr. Palmieri. We can't say enough good about him and his staff -- they are very knowledgeable and professional, kind and compassionate. My wife has an extraordinarily low pain threshold and a strong gag reflex. She's had a tough history of dental challenges stemming from orthodontic work done in the "bad old days" when the answer to everything was to pull teeth rather than paying attention to the long term implications of orthodontic choices. Dr. Palmieri and his staff always go out of their way to ensure that she is as comfortable as possible. They allow extra time for her procedures, wait until she is fully numb, provide a warm blanket, respond instantly if she signals any discomfort, and keep her updated on what they are doing and how much longer it's likely to take. Dr. Palmieri has been great about follow-up on occasions when she's had to consult with him with further questions, including times when she's had residual discomfort, which he has promptly addressed. In addition to his endodontic work, Dr. Palmieri has also made very helpful suggestions about possible options my wife can pursue with her regular dentist regarding her dental issues. My dentist highly recommended Dominion Endodontics to treat a re-infected root canal. I had seen another endodontist in the area, who had terrible bedside manners (curt with me and his assistants), and apparently had missed a canal during treatment. I saw Dr Schoenly, who, right off the bat, had a very calming presence (this is key when you have major tooth pain and you're expecting the worst). He was knowledgeable but approachable; he didn't ramble on in dental jargon, and he welcomed questions. After a rather high-tech 3D X-ray of my teeth, he was able to digitally slice my molar, and pinpointed the exact problem (reinfected root canal, woohoo). I came in the following week for the treatment, and what should have been a torturous procedure, was actually a very relaxing experience. 90 minutes flew by, and I had no pain at all, during or after. The office is brand new and brightly lit. The receptionist was wonderful and made insurance and payment easy to figure out. I couldn't recommend Dr Shoenly highly enough. Take your sad teeth here, they'll leave happy. read more

I can't begin to tell you how happy I was with the care I received at Dominion Endodontics. Dr. David Palmieri and his staff far exceeded my expectations. For starters, I was given an emergency appointment almost immediately and for someone experiencing excruciating pain it was truly a blessing. Dr. Schoenly is an excellent endodontist and recommend him highly should you need a root canal procedure. He is expert at administering Novocain shots with minimal discomfort, explains the rc procedure thoroughly, has great rapport with his assistant, and has an engaging personality. He's given me four root canals on different teeth, and all have gone very well. I was so relaxed during the last one (today), that I even dozed off in the chair mid-procedure. Having a root canal is never fun, and I was dreading it -- but Dr. Schoenly and his assistant Carla took great care of me. He made sure to explain everything really well as he went along. The worst part was getting the tooth numb enough to be worked on, which did take some doing, but he made sure I was not feeling any pain when doing the procedure. I was surprised and pleased that I felt pretty much back to normal (no pain or soreness) by the very next day! So if you have to have a root canal, I'd say you won't find a better place. My most recent visit for retreatment of a root canal was the best experience I've had at the dentist. My general dentist, who is excellent, was not hopeful that my tooth could be saved. Nonetheless, he referred me to Dominion Endodontics and I spoke with Dr. Nathan Shoenly who told me that he would treat the tooth and do his best to save it. He also prescribed an antibiotic which was extremely wise because there was an infection present. The procedure was a resounding success! After 2 years of painful toothaches, Dr. Shoenly found the canal and treated it. It's been 3 weeks and I am pain-free with an intact tooth. His demeanor is friendly and professional; and his skill-level is second to none. I'd also like to add that the staff is welcoming which just adds to the overall wonderful experience. I went to my dentist with a very bad tooth ache. This is odd because I take very good care of my teeth. The pain was so bad the night before, I was only able to get about 2 hours of sleep. I needed an emergency root canal. My Dentist made some calls and was able to get me into Dominion Endodontists in Arlington, VA. There, I was pleasantly greeted by Myra and two other young ladies at the front desk. I must admit, I was very apprehensive going to see a medical professional, I did not know. Myra and the other two ladies were so reassuring and understanding, that I started to feel at ease. To me, the front desk is where it all begins! Shortly, I met Dr. Nathan Schoenly. I immediately felt at ease with Dr. Nathan Schoenly. His bedside manner is very comforting and reassuring. He THOROUGHLY and PATIENTLY explained the procedure and made sure I understood, as well as being comfortable and relaxed. Dr. Schoenly's Nurse Assistant was just as nice. The procedure took about an hour. Throughout the procedure, there was absolutely NO PAIN or DISCOMFORT. After the procedure, everything I needed to know for the post-treatment was thoroughly explained. YOU MUST READ THIS: I was given a prescription for pain relief and an antibiotic. I am still taking the antibiotic as directed. I took one pain pill, as the novacaine started wearing off, as a precaution. I only needed to take ONE pain pill, in total. The remainder of the pills are in the bottle. INCREDIBLE! Later that evening, I was able to have soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. Bedtime: I slept like a baby. This morning: I am totally back to myself and I enjoyed my workout at the Gym. I can feel no tell-tale signs that I had a root canal. THANK YOU, Dr. Schoenly and APPLAUSE to your staff. Dr Palmieri is an excellent doctor and Staci , his nurse is exceptional as well. Staci is the utmost professional but also has a kind gentle manner - something very rare these days. The words root canal have some extremely negative connotations. I was very nervous about getting a root canal, based on what people have told me and the not-so-great reputation of root canals. Who'd ever thought that there would be such a thing as a painless root canal. But it does exist! Dr. Palmieri was patient with me, explaining the procedure and the general issues of what a root canal does (using the mouth model and a wipeboard picture) during the consultation. When I went in for the actual root canal, the assistant (i forget her name, but she rocked), soothed my fears. I covered my ears with my headphones, turned up the music. I also didn't want to see anything, so the assistant fashioned an eyemask out of the face mask. In about 45 minutes, the procedure was complete, and I didn't feel, hear, or see a thing! The most painful part was keeping my mouth open for so long, and always feeling like I was drooling. I hope to never have to see Dr. Palmieri and his staff again, but if it gets to that point, then I'll come back gladly. read more
