The service was terrible. We went on a Sat night. There were plenty of employees and the place wasn't that busy but we waited awhile just for our server to come get our drink order and bring chips. Definitely not your typical quick Mexican restaurant. There was an issue with their computer so they couldn't put the margarita order in right away. I ordered a steak fajita taco salad and was charged for that but received chicken. The food was pretty good and a reasonable price but the service and accuracy was subpar. Don Jose's fajitas are delicious and come with rice and beans. I opted for black beans instead of refried, and the dish also included a salad and guacamole. The portion was large enough to share between two people. The Jamaica juice was served in a huge mug, which was a nice touch. Our waiter was very friendly and did an excellent job taking our order. Next to McDonalds on W Palmetto St. Not really authentic Mexican more like the generic restaurant. The two salsa brought w chips are mild and mild w twinge of spice, if you like salsa. I had combo 16, chille relano, enchilada, chalupa it was decent except chille too oily. Wife had shrimp fried rice, both rice & shrimp were extremely salty too much so that she sent it back. The next rice came out was still salty. She did say Margarita was strong. The bill was $28; if one can find right combo might find value in return visit. read more

The very first time we order from this restaurant (we picked it up) several items were missing. We paid for it but did not receive. I don't live close by so going back was not an option. Plus, gas is expensive and so was this food. While the food was splendid, take out orders should be carefully checked to ensure that your customer's order is correct. I ordered chicken & beef enchiladas. I took 2 bites & it was disgusting. I asked could I order something else because my food was nasty & the manager said verbatim: "You can order something else but I'll still have to charge you for both items & that's the price you pay when you order food at a restaurant you might not like it. And you still have to pay for this also!" I asked to speak with another manager & they said theres nothing we can do. My son enjoyed his wings, & my daughter enjoyed her food, my husband said his food was ok, but not something he'll ever eat again or take what was left in a doggy bag.. The chips & salsa was good. This was my 2nd time eating here. Very disappointing in the service & will never return here again. I went to this location for the first time with my best friend. After, the bad service that i received , I will Never go there again. I suggest to others to beware of this establishment. WHY?? Let me start off by saying that I am black male who was hanging with my out of town my best friend ( who happens to be latino). We arrived at the restaurant on a busy Sunday afternoon. The time was 11:55am. They had seats inside, but we requested outside seating. We were seated quickily and given chips and salsa. No drink order taken. An older white couple and group/ family came in about 10 to 15 minutes after us. We still had no one come to our table to take an order (food or drink). Around 12:33pm, i noticed that the two groups that came in after us had drinks already. I started to go in and inquire as to why no one has come to our table, but my friend advised that i remain seated and see what happens. A server came out to take the family's order. He then asked both the older couple and us if we had been helped. We both said no. He then said ok and finished with the family's order. Then he took the older couple's order. When he came to us, my friend expressed to him in Spanish that he took their foods orders and we came in before them. Not to mention that they already have their drinks at their table and all we have been offered was chips and salsa. Both our drink and food orders should have been taken a head of the others. He told me friend in spanish that he was not responsible because this was not his table. My friend said to him that he wanted to speak to the manager. The male server took my drink order. When the drink was brought out by a young female server, we gave our food order and asked her if she would have the manager come to our table. She said ok. I decided to set a timer just to see if and when he stop by our table. Food was the only thing that showed up at our table. No manager came to check on us. The female server gave us napkins towards the end of us finishing our food, but never brought the check. We got up, went to the desk and paid. And after paying was told sorry your wait. My friend took note that I was the only person of color (African American) in the entire restaurant. While walking out, my friend said to me that the service bad. He believe that they were being racist. Based on the level of customer service we received, i tend to agree. The way in which we were treated I do not wish upon anyone. I hope this post helps the next person avoid the mistake we made in choosing this restaurant. read more

Was a little skeptical at first from the outside appearance, but some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. Everything was very fresh and had lots of friendly personnel waiting on us. We had several different meals and no one was disappointed and portion sizes were huge. Would definitely recommend A hidden gem. read more

Ok course being a Texan, this restaurant just doesn't stack up to authentic Mexican cuisine, however...I truly enjoyed the food here. The waitstaff were very friendly, efficient, and helpful. The food was good, although I prefer cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese instead of whatever white cheese they use, it was still quite tasty. I loved the chicken enchiladas. We used to come here once a week every week before we moved out of state, and I was looking forward to my all time fave the pollo borracho when we moved back. I don't know what happened but the food isn't good anymore- it tasted like tomato sauce just poured over a piece of chicken. We went back three times and the last time will be the very last I go there and it makes me so sad. Don José used to be the best place in town and I just hate they aren't anymore. Central location, but parking is sometimes tough, since this is a favorite eatery. Restaurant turns tables quickly, so the patrons can enjoy a meal. I would say that this ranks up there with my high school cafeteria's "Mexican" food...tasteless and out of a can. I guess Mexican food has a different interpretation in the Southeast versus the Southwest. On the plus side the prices were cheap. The drinks were also cheap but then again water and lime juice is inexpensive compared to the cost of real alcohol. Taco Bell shouldn't fear the completion in Florence because this place isn't it. read more
