The server Andrea was pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable about the options. Mom's Chicken Quesadilla was superb with lots of meat and cheese. Almost like being in Mexico City, tall paintings, mood lighting, low relaxing music, and a definitely a nice spot for large parties. Goldilocks would eat here. We live on an island in South Carolina and eat every Friday for the last 7 years at a local Mexican restaurant. Let me tell you we were so happy with the food here. First of all the place is beautiful inside. They have an outdoor patio that was absolutely stunning. I wish I would have got the bartenders name but I know she had just graduated from college and was so knowledgeable. And so kind. I chose to get the San Jose Mexican steak dinner and the steak was so tender and juicy. I chose to get fries in place of the beans and rice. My husband chose to get something different that he's never had Pollo Super Charro I took a picture of the menu explaining what all was in it it had chorizo bacon and chicken and cheese and he absolutely loved it. We go back to town next week from Tuesday to Friday and we will definitely go back there and eat again. read more

I notice when I order 1800 tequila or/and patron, I know the taste, I ordered the 1800 tequila and I know they gave me well tequila bc of the tasted. But, charged me for a 1800. When you get your check they have few other taxes included which is ridiculous especially in/at Florence SC. The chips were a bit stale and not made in house but the salsa was good, queso was average and the guac was great. I ordered the chimichangas. They were much smaller than I would have thought, just 3 inches or so. cooked well, just small. The beans and rice were good but nothing over the top. My boss had a seafood dish which had more food than he could eat and said it was very good. The service was not very good, drinks were not refilled enough and it took forever to get our bill. Traveling from New York to Florida I stopped here for dinner. Ana was my server and was so attentive, checking on me multiple times during my meal even though she was very busy, she never made me feel like she was in a rush. I opted for a mango margarita (I was staying in Florence overnight and not driving) and chicken burrito Mexicano. Complimentary chips and salsa were also served. Salsa was fresh and had a lovely cilantro flavor. Not spicy at all unfortunately. The burrito was huge filled with lots of flavorful and juicy chicken. We noticed that he was putting the food down way too fast and sliding the dishes across the table.. REALLY..? Our second visit this past Friday was totally different. Although we were seated immediately, the food was bland.. not just bland.. BLAND..! As both my wife and I cook, we noticed no salt.. and or spices to both the rice, and beans. Not even the salsas could fix 'em . The enchilada's were definitely not the same as last time.. we both noticed that the cook just rolled up some cheese put it in a rolled tortilla put some enchilada sauce on it and sent it out. The expediter... he was on a roll.. he totally threw the plates down on the table.. he asked who ordered the chili relleno, both my wife and i said 'her' and he put the plate down in front of me.. ?? then was going to give my taco combo to my wife. When he came with a side of beans.. he threw the beans so that thay almost came out of the dish they came in. The food handler needs listen and definitely be more respectful of the customers he's serving.. We would like to give a 4.. Place is very spacious, and each of the seats were very comfortable. It can definitely host small and big parties. The service was very fast and friendly, we wanted a few modifications and the waitress made sure it all went through nicely. It was very appreciated! I got the Burrito Mexicano. It was very tasty and had plenty of all of the fillings. I eat a lot, but it was tough to go finish due to the great (huge) portion sizes! We had the queso/chorizo appetizer, which came out sizzling hot and had crispy cheese. My wife had the San Jose pollo with mushrooms, oinions, and pueblano peppers and I had the carnitas. Food always tasty and good. Had the Lunch Polla la Paz for a change from the regular favorites. Delicious medley for mixed vegetables topped the grilled chicken. Would prefer more broccoli to cauliflower, but both are healthy and serve the body well. It was a busy Friday, since the heat was rising outside. Several large groups were inside, and waiters and waitress were running from inside with large groups to outside trying to keep up. So, there was a slight wait. My only pet peeve with this restaurant; throw out the chipped plates. I cannot believe the SC board of health has not fined them for recirculating the chipped plates. Think about this, you can stop in any sandwich place and spend more on a combo lunch. For the same dollar value you can get a fresh cooked Mexican meal and cool off in an air conditioned building where the tables are clean and service is polite. read more

Most San Jose's are synonymous with low prices lots of okay food, this one is subpar food high prices. Let's start w the margarita, it had Patron as key ingredient but the tequila was overpowered by sweet mixed drink taste, it was awful I could only drink a few sips. My wife's Mojito was just as sweet, terrible. I got chicken burrito, quesadilla, rice and beans. The quesadilla if you want to call it that was a tortilla folded in half w fake chicken clumps. Literally looked like that Starkist tuna/chicken blobs from tear away packet, w some melted cheese, disgusting. Burrito was almost identical in make to quesadilla except w tomato paste. The beans were more like brown liquid flavored bean slop. The rice had no flavor; my wife's shrimp fried rice was not good according to her. You can examine the receipt to see exactly what this restaurant wants to charge for this shite. There are plenty of better places to spend your hard earned money, go elsewhere. read more

Passing through Florence, SC on our way back to VA. This was a recommendation from the front desk at Staybridge Suites. Took a couple minutes to get seated. Because of COVID they wanted us to use a QR code thing for the menu but it did not work so they brought us plastic coated menus. Hubby ordered BBQ nachos. They were very tasty. Not spicy. And a big plate full. I ordered chicken fajitas burritos with black beans. Two big burritos full of fajitas chicken and onions. Pretty tasty. Their chips were sort of thick but crispy. The #1 reason why restaurants get poor reviews is CUSTOMER SERVICE and my visit is the perfect example of how what could have been a decent experience went bad! The ATMOSPHERE here is unexpectedly nice. Yes it's a chain but the build-out was done beautifully and it's quite pleasant. I sat at the bar and ordered a San Jose Treasure margarita @9.99. It was not cheap but included Patron Silver tequila, Grand Marnier, fresh lime juice, agave nectar a splash of orange juice and a Chambord dripped center. It was EXCEPTIONAL! It was so good I ordered a 2nd which was also wonderful. My meal began with warm chips and salsa which were just fine. I ordered my old stand by Chori-Pollo. It was Grilled chicken breast covered with chorizo and nacho cheese served with rice and beans @ $11.25. It was served with several warm tortillas. It was completely as expected, chain quality and just fine. My CUSTOMER SERVICE, was horrific, abysmal, and overall some of the worst I have every experienced. Management should be embarrassed. I had to get up and wander the restaurant SEVERAL TIMES to find somebody to make my 1st drink, place my order, get my 2nd drink, etc. I think it was the manger that finally brought my check. When I mentioned the poor service a nearby table shouted out; "THAT'S ALSO HAPPENING TO US!" I'll take my considerable business elsewhere and encourage my friends to do the same. read more

Sadly, they're not running much for beer specials other than the usual Cinco de Mayo thing. Nice sandwich board out front, but that's for Thursday and not today. Sad face. I opted for the table side guacamole and it was a very good portion. Made to order and spiced as requested, but I'm one for chunky guac rather than smooth. Dude making it did not understand English. Oh, well. Fajitas were good. Lots of shrimp in there with the chicken, buta bit overdone. Some of the peppers and onions were nice and crisp, some were overdone and mushy. The hot fajitas plate, perhaps? The fixin's plate was not very big and a separate plate for assembly would have been useful here. As mentioned elsewhere, the service from the waitstaff didn't have anything specifically wrong. They were just off their timing. Waiting for to order, food coming out too quickly after the guacamole, a bit of a wait for the check and then a wait for it to come back. And this was on a night that wasn't crazy busy. San Jose's is a new-ish Mexican place in Florence, and I visited on a business trip. It's pretty good and very convenient to the interstates and to local hotels. I visited for dinner and ate the shrimp and potato enchilada, which came with creamy cheese sauce on top of it and a side of rice. Lots of the menu options were new to me, as I haven't seen them on other Mexican restaurant menus. The food was delicious and the enchiladas were very rich (3, but small). I didn't quite eat all the rice, but the portions aren't huge for the price. Most entrees are over $10, so it's a little pricier than your typical Mexican restaurant. The guac they make at your table looks interesting and tasty, but I didn't get it. The salsa and chips are good, but the salsa is a bit spicy and smokey, almost overpoweringly so at first. I wish they'd brought out a milder option. Service was pretty good. I'd definitely give it another shot the next time I'm in town. It's still pretty new, so I think they may have some kinks to work out. read more
