The food here is good. I would give the food a solid 4. The service is another story. The staff was pleasant but had difficulty managing our orders. It took a while to get them to take our orders. I ordered a margarita and the waitress said she was too young to make it so it didn't arrive until well into the meal. One of our group ordered tacos and they didn't show up until we pointed it out to the waitress. The ambiance is what you expect from your average Mexican restaurant. Rude and untrained staff, mediocre margaritas. Just order the small one, because if you order the medium size it has the same amount of alcohol in it as a small. So if you were to order two small margs you're getting two full shots other than one full shot of tequila in a medium. Ergo; they're ripping you off. El Acapulco does the same thing. read more

only 1 star because I had to give a star to add a review. We, myself & 4 of my daughters, ate here at 4:20 on may 24,2025. We were watched from the time we arrived to the time we left. I ordered a margarita and a sweet tea, my girls ordered sodas. We sent $110 on very mediocre food. We had to ask for to go boxes several times. My daughter wanted to take her rice with her. I asked for a to go sweet tea. I was told no to a to go cup because of the nasty margarita that I ordered. This was after I asked for a to go sweet tea. read more

I've been eating at this restaurant for years and I love it so much. Everything tastes homemade. Old school Mexican decor. Great service. I've eaten most of the dishes- current favorites are the veggie tacos, guacamole salad and side of black beans. I had a great passion fruit margarita. Super yummy salsa fresca. We ate lunch here today it's kind of reminds me of going to Laredo as a child. It's decorated with a authentic style Mexican decor. They have a nice size menu with all types of selections to choose from . The lunch menu doesn't really have a big selection if you want a variety though. The prices are pretty good as well. I ordered the C7 ( I think ) it came with a Chile relleno, a enchilada, beans and rice. My husband got C1 it came with two enchiladas, taco , and rice . He also got a mango margarita. Google indicated that this restaurant was open until 8 p.m., so we chose it. At 4 o'clock in the afternoon, the waitress said the kitchen was closed, there was nothing else we could order, and we could pay now... cash or a cc. They practically ran everybody out the door. As they were mopping the floors and setting up chairs on the opposite side of the dining room, the aroma of Fabuloso was overpowering. At 4:30, people who arrived were turned away. We have eaten at this Don Juan location several times per month for a long time. Today we went for lunch they were busy, the owner was at the hostess station, I asked for our favorite server (he is very helpful with my husband and we need the help). The owner glared at me and said very rudely "he is busy if you want him you will wait 30 minutes or more"! We had appointments and agreed to be seated in another area, we should have left. I have never been spoken so rudely, my husband who usually is non observant said "wow how rude". Had she said he is busy but I will seat you in his section as soon as possible, I would have understood and we would have been seated elsewhere. We will find another Mexican food restaurant, we are fortunate to have several in Hot Springs. We will not return to this Don Juan location. read more

It was ok food. Nothing amazing or delicious. A bit bland and needed salt & spices. I wouldn't go back but I didn't hate it. Salsa had an odd sweet after flavor. The cheese in the chili relleno just poured out when I cut it. They should have used a thick crumbly or goopy Mexican cheese, not flavorless queso. The roasted jalapeños & cilantro I requested saved the meal and added flavor. Both of us agreed it's just a solid 3 but I think we were being nice because we were so hungry. Sat down on MOTHER'S DAY for a cold Margarita and salsa with chips and a look at their menu which was presented to me dirty!!!! Yuck!! I called the server to the table to let them know and they took a napkin from another table and just wiped at the wet mess. Salsa tasted like tomatoes paste with a touch if cilantro. The refill of chips was literally just dumped into our basket from another basket. Need I continue?? Left our food, paid bill, they asked how everything was, I started to tell them, but they just took the check and processed the charge. NOPE Never again. I dream about this place... Ever since I moved to TX, I can't find anywhere quite like it. My favorite thing is the shrimp nachos. It's a big ol plate of chips topped with queso and grilled shrimp. The shrimp marinate in some sort of delicious red stuff. It comes with a few other toppings but I like it simple. It's fantastic. I make sure to eat there every time I come to visit. It took them 20 minutes to even come take our drink orders. They were no where near busy. When the waiter finally started taking our drink orders, he turned us down on 3 of our drinks stating he didn't have time! Customer service has gone straight downhill. They used to be great, but after our last 3 times there, it has been horrible. Went here to eat with a friend before going to see a movie. Don Juan's has two locations in Hot Springs. This one on Albert Pike and the other in the Mall. The wait staff were nice and informed us about specific questions about our food. The checked on us pretty regularly. The white cheese dip was real good, but the guacamole wasn't the best. I've had better (for both). The food was hot and I got more than enough for the amount that I paid. Our order didn't take long at all. Good atmosphere and it seemed very busy especially around 3ish in the afternoon. If you are into a quick, inexpensive, sit down meal this is a good place to go. read more

I ordered a to-go order at Don Juan's (on Albert Pike) earlier this afternoon. While the experience wasn't horrible, it wasn't great either. I arrived a few minutes later than I was told (about 5 minutes just to ensure that my food was ready). I waited outside at the curb for 5-10 minutes; I was told to wait there when I placed the order, there were also signs saying something about waiting there plus them having the dining area open. When no one came out to greet me (they had previously asked what kind of car I drove so they should have known I was there to pick up my order) I put my face mask on and went in. I stood well over 6 feet from the only guy I could even see inside; I told them I was there to pick up my order. The guy told me "Oh, I saw you outside I was going to come out in a few minutes". I asked if I could simply go ahead and pay and be on my way. He, very rudely, told me to go back outside and wait. There was no need to be rude. He came out less than 2 minutes later with my food and credit card machine, again if it was ready why be rude? He gave me my food. The bill was a little high for what I ordered but I paid (with someone else's card) and left. He asked for a tip when I ran the card. We finished the transaction and I went on my way. I got back home and looked at the receipt. There were no prices, just the total. Looked online as their menu (with prices) and the total should have been about $10 less according to their menu prices. The person who paid called and asked about this. According to them they raised prices.... but it wasn't reflected on their menu. There was no indication anywhere that prices even could have been raised since the prices online were listed. And since I was told to get out of the restaurant it's not like I had the option to even glance at their menu to see what they had listed. Would We have paid the increased prices had we known? Absolutely! The raised prices were understandable, but the fact that they aren't advertising it (at least not according to their online menu) is kind of stupid. When we finally ate the food it was mediocre at best. The temperature was great, even driving home with the food it stayed warm enough to enjoy. But, the meats were dried out and the seasoning/spices/sauces were just not very good. I've ordered this many times so I know (and like) what it's supposed to taste like. Next time I have a craving for Mexican it probably won't be Don Juan's. read more

Hot Springs practically has a Mexican restaurant on every corner, but Don Juan is by far my favorite. They now have 3 locations (Albert Pike, Hot Springs mall & Malvern Ave), so there's one close no matter which part of town you're in. The queso blanco is wonderful and the chicken soup is the best I've ever had. I always get fast, friendly service and the menu is very extensive. I'm never disappointed. read more

The food was great as well as the prices and the service. The portions they give you are wonderful for the money spent. The prices are very reasonable. Came to eat for lunch with my family and ordered the guacamole and the cup of chili as an appetizer. Guacamole tasted like it came out of the bag, not fresh for sure and the chili tasted like it came out of a can literally, definetely not homemade Mexican chili. I had the large burrito and it was the worst I ever had, meat tasted like rubber and it didn't had any flavor at all, not even salt and pepper. When I send my cup of chili back, a minute later our sever came back with the same chili , saying that her manager Delfina said, I must pay for the chili since I ordered. I told my server, that was fine, I still don't want it. Restaurant was very clean, we appreciate that. Our server Rosi was very kind and very attentive. Her service was great. But it is very obvious that this restaurant is run by a very ignorant management team and the ownership as well for not training her managers properly. I'm here for a couple days and will not visit this place again. I will not recommend this place to anyone. By the way I had to ask for the manager's name, since she didn't bother to check on us. read more
