Pro tip: we're here to enjoy the food AND the restaurant, otherwise we would have gotten it to go. Slow down, appreciate your guests, and I'm certain it will be reflected in the diners' gratitude. The food was really good. I got the brisket tacos. I asked if the BBQ sauce was on the side, and it was, but it was also mixed into the brisket. It wasn't bad, just not what what I was expecting. Three tacos, rice and beans, all led to a full belly and a smiling face. I asked for a spicy sauce...and got it. Nice work, y'all, that actually had me sweating a little, a sure sign it's my jam. I know Jen really likes it, too, she raves about it all the time (we can thank her enthusiasm for the 5th star, you guys). Otherwise, being rushed the way we were was a little off-putting, but the brisket made up for it in a big way. ;)

Let me address everything. Yes we made a video because we initially wanted to post a positive review. My husband saw that they had fresh tortillas so he wanted to try them. Nobody had 4 margaritas I ordered one "top shelf" margarita and it was awful. I asked for grand mariner because it was green I was told you all didn't have any. So idk how I got a top shelf if you all didn't have any and that was listed as one of the ingredients in it. Yes we ordered more tortillas? This is your restaurant and you are mad we ordered more of something? My husband was eating that second order when the little roach decided to make its appearance walking across the bar right near us and the lady that said she has been going to your business for 5 years also saw the roach and she started getting loud and obnoxious with the bartender telling him to get you and he said he was trying to I guess turns out you were trying to avoid the situation. Anyway I felt bad for the bartender and told my husband just to pay so we could leave and then I guess you decided to make an appearance and no apology no nothing just oh yeah we sprayed so that must be it. You walk away we are giving the bartender the card and the lady is getting louder telling him not to run the card for him to get you to Comp the food but I guess you figured it was better if you just comped the ONE MARGARITA AND ONE BEER!!! You could have just addressed the situation differently and we wouldn't have even posted anything

Okay. This might very well be my new favorite hidden gem in BR…read more This place was reviewed by another local on instagram and it had me sold. It was Taco Tuesday and I was down. We arrive here to this very cozy restaurant in the corner of the shopping center. We entered and were greeted immediately. They have a bar of the left side when entering on the right side just a few booths and huge tvs. It was perfect for watching the World Cup. Tuesday here meant taco specials. I didn't get a picture of the specials menu but I believe it was $2 per taco so I got 5! Chicken, Carne Asada, and Carnitas. I also got rice and beans and side. It wasn't included but I didn't care. The margaritas were buy 1 get 1. By this time im already in heaven and the fact that we drinks were great put it over the top. The chips and salsa were home made! They were cut in strips so you know they make them in house. They are also dusted with a delicious seasoning. The food came out nice and hot in about 15 mins or so. The chicken tacos were a bit on the dry side for me but still good. The Carne asada were my favorite. The star of the show were the refried beans. I've never tasted refried beans that damn good. Very well seasoned. My date ate all of his shrimp and fish tacos so im guessing he also enjoyed his meal. All of this food for about $50 and I think it's the cheapest ive paid for a date night in a long time. I can't wait to become a regular.

In the rear it's a casual dining restaurant with very nice food at a good price. Both are worth visiting! La Mexicana is located in the strip mall directly across Seigen from the Super Target. Look for the green letters spelling out their name over the facade. If you are there to dine, enter and walk to the back where the tables and colorful booths are located. These booths are great, they have graphics on them that depict everything from pastoral scenes to Aztec deities, all is bright vivid colors! You can pick up a menu from the counter on your way to your seat, or wait for a server to bring you one. There's a wide selection of Mexican/American dishes that probably include your favorites. There's some other dishes as well, including a great little selection of seafood. Another menu area to peruse is the torta sandwiches. All the food seems fresh and homestyle. They usually bring big bottles of red and green sauce to the table to complement the small bowls of salsa and the pickled onion condiments. Another great thing is they have cold Topo Chico mineral water to go with your meal. Looking for a fresh and different place to eat Mexican? Give this local, small, and unique place a try. It's pretty homey and authentic

I haven't been here for at least seven maybe possibly 10 years since Renee Ortlieb was the owner…read more The reason I came back to try it today was because after a visit to La Mexicana a few days ago only to learn it has closed (and it had become my staple for the area of authentic Mexican). To my surprise, la Tienda Latina is a Honduran restaurant. To my taste Honduran food is blander then real Mexican food. After reading the reviews, I ordered a Mexican coke and an appetizer while I looked at the menu. The friendly English speaking waitress brought salsa and chips to the table, along with my Coke and ample sized appetizer. Shortly after she returned with the Honduran tamale ( chose pork vs chicken). She also brought two condiment bottles of homemade sauces, both green tomatillo and red chili .. both very standard at authentic places. The salsa and chips were nice and fresh tasting and I particularly liked the green sauce with the tamale sauce. Realizing how much food this was already I decided just to order a side of refried beans and some Mexican Crema, which was actually perfect, and I had food to bring home because I only ate half of the tamale and about a fourth of the beans which were delicious. The tamale did need extra flavor although it was packed with potatoes and rice and chunks of cooked roast type pork, and a few peas I think. For the price I think it's quite a bargain to fill up on. However, I filled up quickly by drinking a second Mexican Coke, and had an extra order of the salsa with the chips. I dipped the chips in the beans which were absolutely probably my favorite dish of all. La Tienda won't replace the flavors and menu formerly offered at La Mexicana. I'll have to find another place that has similar type food, but I did enjoy my experience here. However Hondorian food isn't what I get cravings for. Yet, the restaurant was tidy and clean, although I didn't go to the restroom, which is always very telling of how clean a restaurant is. Btw, I know Mexican cokes are usually very pricey, but the idea of paying eight dollars for two medium (quantity) cokes is annoying, but the price of on tap cold drinks has gone up significantly as well around the Baton Rouge area, so often I just have to order water in order to enjoy a sit down meal eating out without paying a total cost of what I used to consider to be premium dinner time treat when I'm just looking for a quick afternoon lunch. Due to my budget lunch (appetizer & 2 sides) selection today I went ahead & ordered a 2nd bottle, and quite enjoyed it, and therefore I have leftovers to enjoy later. I will keep reading other food reviews made here so I can return again and try something else and just maybe I'll find a new favorite!

Immediately upon walking in, I loved all of the colors and the vibes of this Mexican restaurant. When you sit down, they bring chips and salsa to your table. I wasn't a huge fan of the salsa or the chips. The chips had some seasoning on them and to me, it didn't mix well with the salsa. The salsa was really thin, and I prefer a chunky salsa with a salted thick chip lol. I was feeling adventurous and got the French toast on the brunch menu. It was delicious! The berry compote and the two different syrups paired really well with it. The bacon that it came with was perfection. I ate every last bite. I did have a bite of my friends tacos, and they were good but on smaller side in my opinion. Our waitress was great and there were plenty of tvs to watch while we waited. But, we never waited long for anything!

This is definitely Tex-Mex rather than traditional Mexican, but it hits the spot if that's what you're craving. The real standout is the decor and ambiance, especially after renovating and expanding. It's a fantastic space to hang out and chitchat with friends over dinner. The service has always been great and efficient for me. I can't remember the server I often got - maybe Joshua? Their yearly Cinco de Mayo party is also always fun and a vibe! Overall, still a solid spot in Baton Rouge for Tex-Mex and close to LSU campus.

This is such a homey type of place that puts a lot of pride and joy in their food and showing off Latin culture. Los Alvarez Exxpress Latin Food is a local mom and pop spot on the corner of Gardere and Burbank next to the S&P Food Store/Chevron gas station. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect going in but what I got was a lot of warmth and comfort. This is a place for Latin locals to relax and get a bit of familiarity and good food. I dined in and ordered the Granadas Catrachas. Catrachas are traditionally known as Honduran tostadas. Los Alvarez puts their spin on it by using Granada flour to create a puff pocket and stuff it with meat, rice and cheese and serve it with encurtido (Honduran pickled vegetables). I ordered one with chicken and one with beef. The serving was huge and absolutely delicious! I was only able to eat one. That, on top of the chips and salsa and black bean dip had me full for the rest of the day! Everyone that works there is friendly and for a second you don't feel like you're in Baton Rouge.
